Ok Stewart’s…I’ve eaten at many other venues and I keep finding new ones to try. Wifey and I stopped in here recently to grab some lunch… We actually kept it very simple-two root beer floats, shared waffle fries, Wifey got an Atomic Dog(chili, kraut, onions, mustard)…seriously, who eats ONE dog… and I got a Chili cheese dog and one with the works. The first thing we realized was that we did not leave ourselves enough time… Because the service was excruciating Lee slow. I mean really, how can it take 30 minutes for two people to order 3 hot dogs some fries and some root beer floats… Come on. Slow service in a place like this just shouldn’t happen… not when the place is not crowded. As for the food, it was okay. Nothing really jumped out at me that would make this tops on my list, but it wasn’t bad either. The chili on the dogs was a little bit bland, but the dog with the works was still a pretty good effort. There don’t seem to be many hot dog places near here, so I may stop back in sometime and give them another shot. I would hate to think I just caught them on a bad day and might be missing out on some pretty good hot dogs…

My son and I stopped in after a six mile hike in Rockaway. Had not been to this spot in twenty five years. No matter. Stewart’s never changes. Hard to be super enthusiastic given the presence of the Dover Grill right up the road. But what we had was familiar, tasty and good. Plain dogs for my son. New Yorkers for me(red onion sauce dogs). Crinkle cut fries and onion rings. Friendly service and good food. Worth a stop if in the area.

Stewart’s is a nice seasonal outdoor place with good food. The black and tan onion rings are out of this world. I’m deducting one star because our server seemed very depressed to be working here and it put a downer on our first time visit. I would like to suggest that they play 50s music, as it would add to the overall experience of having your food tray hooked to your car window.

Have been coming here for years. They don’t have the best burgers(Five Guys is #1) nor the best dogs(Jimmy Buffs gets that honor). You go for the old time atmosphere of car hops serving you at the car. The root beer is excellent and they do have some cool variants like the scramburger. It’s fun to get a quick bite here and we’ll keep coming back.

Stewart’s is my childhood in most respects. I remember Mom, Dad, me and my brother going there once a week. We lived right off of route 46 so it took us about five minutes but I would’ve walked to get there. I still get a four pack of Stewart’s root beer at the store before I will eat chili dogs.

Stewart’s is an experience that I treasure, I remember many years back when I was about 8 my dad bringing me there for the first time. I thought it was so cool eating in the car with the glass root beer mug. This is a memory that I will treasure for the rest of my life and I hope my son appreciates the visits I make with him as much as I did. My food of choice is the hamburgers. I normally do not eat raw onion on hamburgers, but I do here. With all the fast food places that we eat at every day this is a neat change. It gives you the feeling of what it must have been like in the 50’s. Well worth the visit.

i love this place. yes, the food is greasy, but it’s supposed to be. the staff is pretty surly, but i guess its a small price to pay for quick comfort food.
