I first went to Dr. Burger a little over two years ago when my allergies started flaring up uncontrollably. I had always had some form of allergies when it came to grass or pollen but all of a sudden it intensified to the point where I had hives all over my body and my lip was swollen… it continued for days. They gave me a steroid shot to give me the initial boost to calm my allergies but had to give me another one a month later because I still was flaring up. After my intensive scratch test, they found out I’m severely allergic to grasses, pollens, etc. — I already knew that! What I didn’t know though was that I had acquired a hefty list of food allergies. And that’s when I went into denial. I love food. No seriously, I LOVEFOOD. It is my life, that’s what I spend money on, that’s my shit right there. So when I found out I couldn’t have any nuts(peanuts, tree nuts, etc.), any legumes(beans, carob, pine nuts, peas, etc.), corn, tuna, peaches, cherries, melons… the list goes on. I was crushed. Now you must understand, Dr. Burger is an older doctor so he’s very set in his ways/ideas. I like a doctor that I can debate more with and learn the why’s & why not’s of what is going on with my body, but he is much more the type of doctor who just tells you to follow a certain thing. That’s not to say he didn’t answer all my questions, it’s just maybe you’ll have to ask him several times before he realizes you actually want an answer. The nurses are all nice. The injections that I get(every week — one in each arm) have been helping tremendously so I’m super excited. Even though Dr. Burger will swear AGAINST it, the injections have actually been helping my food allergies too which I’m super SUPER excited about :) Overall, he’s a good doctor but I only see him every 6 months to a year anyway.
