I’ve been stopping here in the mornings for about 2 weeks now for coffee and a muffin, occasionally an apple fritter. It appears to be a family run business, and a very nice family at that. Supper friendly, fast service, good coffee, a nice way to start the day. And no, I’m not a grandkid.

Traffic on the 5, we decide to search the iphone for a donut shop. Granny’s Donuts has 5 stars lets do it! we pull up, the first thing i say is «how many people reviewed it?», «two» my friend replies. «thats what i thought» i said. We walked in to a meager selection of donuts grabbed an OJ and a Milk and a few donuts and left, first thing i notice was the lack of effort on the cut in half jelly donut. Who cuts the donut in half to put the jelly inside?! I could have done that myself, although it wasn’t bad, it looked more like two glazed donuts with jelly smashed in between. Oh well, my buddy opens up his orange juice… mold around the ring of it. Altogether disappointing, the donuts weren’t bad but i wouldn’t go out of my way to stop there.ever. the 2 other reviewers must be Granny’s grandkids.

Ah, Donuts… seemingly just fried bread with a hole poked out of the center, but they are so much more. Perfection in one, singular donut is hard to find. But I’ve found it, and no, she’s not your mom, she’s at Granny’s on Paramount Blvd. Two nights ago, I was reminded of that perfection. The maple old fashioned donut at Granny’s is unattainable by no other, unmatched by her biggest competitors and unparalleled to no other similar food item. At first bite, you’re not only had at hello, but one bite through the soft, inviting, veritable cloud of sweetness is, what I’ll call, a smoke screen for Snow White’s Apple. Or fruit of the poisonous tree. At first glance, maple frosting is dripping down her sides! At first bite, a slightly hardened outer shell of maple frosting gives way to her frosting’s soft interior, where you will notice the taste of brown sugar. If you just sink your teeth a bit further you’re rewarded with a treat that truly melts in your mouth, without any waxy aftertaste you normally get from sub par imposters. Ordinary old fashioned donuts have a bready consistency. But, the maple old fashioned at Granny’s has more of an actual cake-like consistency(like a MOIST birthday cake). Overall, an absolute superb donut, and no, it does not need to be paired with milk. And it only costs a mere 75 cents. Where can you get perfection for 75 cents? Granny’s Donuts, folks.
