Fantastic candy store. Has all things sweet and not. Careful shopping here though, your eyes may be bigger than your stomach and you may end up getting too much.

A good place to purchase foods in bulk. It seems they carry everthing imaginable in bulk here. The best buys, IMO, are the spices. This can be a real money saver. If I need or want a small amount, the price is far less than if I were to get the same thing at a supermarket. I purchased some spices for less than a dollar per small bag that would have been 5 dollars per spice in the supermarket right next door. Plus, they will have unusual spices that would require a trip to an ethnic market or purchase on-line. Purchasing only a small amount allows me to try the spice, which is great if it is a spice I am not familiar with, or if it is to be used in a recipe I won’t be making often, such as an elaborate curry. The spices tend to be fresh. Tea is sold loose here. I have always been disappointed with it, however. It was consistently stale. I have found that other items such as the snacks sold loose in bins can be stale. Best to buy a small amount first to test it for freshness, and then go back for more. If you are searching for natural food colorings, a very small selection is carried. You may want to call first before driving miles. Prices tend to vary. I can find candied ginger sold for much less in other venues. Check around and know your prices! The convenience of buying the amount I choose can be a real help in budgeting food dollars. The variety of grains, beans and flours is amazing. Plus, there is always some difficult to find, special food item that I find here that I find nowhere else. Rosewater and orange flower water are 2 such items. One special touch was a brochure available on how to make your own mixes from food products sold there, to always have a full larder. Wonderful. The store was always clean and neat whenever I have been in there. They want a $ 20 minimum for ATM or credit card sales. That’s right, $ 20 bucks. This doesn’t fit in with the way I shop. I understand why they have this policy, but they should consider going back down to $ 10 at the very least. I can find $ 10 worth of stuff, but $ 20? Maybe at holiday time, but not any other time. Sorry, but this policy needs to change. I shop here less because of this policy. So, to sum up, buying in bulk can save cash but you have to know your prices. A good place to find some unusual items. Worth a look.

This is a great place to find things like sprouted grains, glueten free bread mixes, cookies, etc… It’s bulk style so you fill your bag, tag it and weigh it. The costs are a lot lower than I expected which was a great surprise! They have a wonderful selection of items including things like real Saffron!(now that item was a little pricey but it’s not like you can pick it up at the Giant) The store itself is on the small side but definitely worth the trip. Great for people who need to make their own breads, cereals, grains themselves because of food allergies. The quality is great and hard to find items aren’t hard to find anymore :)

After my favorite health food store in Plumsteadville went out of business I thought I’d never find a great place again until I remembered about the Larder. It had been years since I set foot throught it’s doors since it’s rare that I got down 611 that far. It was even better than I remembered it. It’s a foodie paradise! Spices, candies, flour, pretzels, nut, trail mixes, teas, and coffees. They have a wonderful selection. They even have the cookies that you use to put ice cream sandwiches together. Their french vinilla tea is wonderful. And I finally found popcorn salt!

I love the larder for bulk foods and gift baskets. Back in the late ’80’s and ’90’s they were the only game in town. They have teas, coffees, spices, grains and candies. It’s alot of fun to poke around — though nowadays you can get alot of these items more cheaply on line or at Wegmans(There WASNOWEGMANS back in the day). The ladies who originially opened it(they’ve been around a looooong time) I think no longer own it. But the gals working there are always pleasant and helpful. If you are in D-town and need a gift basket of food items or just want some yummy treats for yourself, check out the Larder for sure!
