Laketown Speed and Sound

Very streamlined experience. Put everything I wanted on a receipt so I could see how much it cost to put it all in. This first installment involved a set of Phoenix RX Component speakers, and a rear deck with Phoenix RX speakers which not only sound great, but they custom fitted them in my factory tweeter cones so I could have them. The man who helped me was Zach and he was very polite and informative in the way he presented me with the different options for installs. I have quite a bit left to overhaul as far as my sound system goes but I will definitely be back to have them do the work. Excellent.

Stellar service and efficiency. I had no idea where to go for an electrical issue with my car and found Laketown Speed and Sound online. After reading many other great reviews, I decided to try them out. When I called ahead, Isaac very professionally and courteously spoke with me about my options and pricing (which was WAY reasonable). When I went back at the time Isaac recommended, he came right out. As soon as he heard what was going on, he grabbed a tech, Angel – load tech /​install manager, and they took care of my problem right away.
I recommend Laketown Speed and Sound for anyone looking for great customer service and professional courtesy. I will be returning for all my future needs.

My husband purchased a new stereo for my 2005 truck for Christmas. It looks and sounds amazing! They even took the time to instruct me on how to use it. I’m now going to purchase a new car stereo for my daughter there for her birthday. I would not hesitate to recommend this place to friends and family.

I have nothing but good things to say about Laketown Speed and Sound. They provided me with great service and gave me multiple options which I could choose from that were in my budget.
They also provided a FREE (diagnostics) test in order to see what exactly was wrong with my stereo and why it wasn’t working. Other places wanted to charge me, just to see what was wrong.

Went in to get my old stock stereo and speakers replaced with something a little more updated. Isaac in sales helped me find just what I was looking for. Sid installed the system and it was very professional and fast. The system they sold me sounds great and the initial quote they gave me was exactly what I paid when I picked it up. I would definitely recommend Laketown to a friend.

Update 1÷06÷16 — This thing has been such a nightmare. It periodically loses sound. We troubleshoot can’t find anything wrong, then days, sometimes weeks later the sound just starts working again. I would NEVER use these guys. Wasted so much of our time on what should have been a simple DVD player install. Now we have a crappy system and don’t trust the guys to not screw something else up, so we don’t take it back in.
Update 9÷20÷15− After they got us in to install our DVD player, theses guys installed the wrong one. Of course we noticed right as we were heading out on our road trip and couldn’t plug our device in. Wasted hours of our time reinstalling the correct DVD player right before the trip.
9÷16÷15 Terrible customer service. Over scheduled themselves and completely blew off our scheduled (in writing) appointment.

I talked to Isaac before we started the job and we came up with a rate. Others in town had quoted me less but I heard good things about this place. When I picked up the car there were lots of silly fees and charges that we did not discuss that they had added on. They ended up not charging me the extra fees because, I was livid, but I certainly don’t appreciate that they tried.

My alarm kept going off randomly. Needed someone to just disconnect it. Went in and they fixed temporarily for no charge so it would stop bothering my neighbors in the middle of night. I was impressed with their attitude and helpfulness. Definitely be back.

I had my boat audio done at a competitor and it never worked, after a year of them failing to fix it I took it to LakeTown and they had it resolved in less than an hour. Their audio service was so good I had them do the window tinting on my brides car. If you’re looking around, stop, you’ve found the right place.

Whenever I buy a new car, Laketown is one of my first stops. John and his crew have been servicing my car audio needs for years. John personally looks at my cars and makes recommendations based upon my needs and budget.
I have had two situations where my cars needed customized boxes make to fit the shape and design of the car. He took the time to research how others have fit boxes in similar cars and thankfully came up with solutions.
Also of importance is the speed at which they have addressed problems. I have had a couple of manufacture defects arise. Each time they quickly addressed the issue and make take the necessary steps to resolve the problem.
I trust Laketown and will continue to refer my friends and family.

I now use Laketown exclusively for all of my car, truck, and boat audio needs. These guys are some of the LAST OF THEIR BREED!!! I would never walk into a best buy and expect their staff to have the expertise necessary to meet my extremely high expectations. Nor would I purchase audio equipment from Amazon and then try to install it myself. For those of us to believe you get what you pay for, they are the only choice for audio in the SL and Utah valleys.

These guys are the best. Super friendly and easy to work with. Stopped by for a kit for my car as I had already purchased the stereo elsewhere, they didn’t knock what I bought or try to sell something to me that I didn’t need. Shout out to Isaac for helping me out!

If John the owner doesn’t lose his temper on you you are in for a decent experience. If he does it instantly becomes personal and everything is your fault and the thought of telling him to stop everything because this is a different guy then the one «promising me the best work in Utah» will just replay in you mind.
On a custom specific install which I ordered in all my own audio high end audio equipment that he couldn’t get ($ 2,500), I expected the install to go well and if a problems or issue arose I would be contacted and we could talk about it and come up with a solution. During my install I was called and I was being talked to in a demeaning manner which was honestly offensive (I’m a car person but just didn’t have the time to do the install myself) I was told it would take longer then expected. I’m a reasonable person and i was fine with it (I even tipped the installers an extra $ 100 each because it wasn’t their fault) but being talked to in that way is not ok with me.
When I picked up my car total was a couple hundred dollars more then the original quote but was never told that at an point not was it discussed at this point he just told me the price and expected me to just pay it. When I questioned the price increase, again I was talked to in a way that was completely unprofessional like I should have know a «quote is just a quote». At this point I was completely done with this place. As was my friend looking to have a full system installed in his new Audi s6.
A week after install my under seat subs started rattling… due to the experience I had I pulled the seat out and fixed it myself. Not what I would expect from a «high end» car Audio installer with «5 star reviews». Nothing personal but john need to hire a professional to deal with customers and just make the money from the shop bc he is the only specific problem other then the sub rattle.

How can I describe my experience with Laketown. I usually get a lot of upgrades done on my cars since I want them well taken care of. I have tried a couple of other shops in town, but let me tell you this has got to be the best automotive customizing shop in Salt Lake area. Here’s why:
Quality products:
The products that they carry are only top of the line. So, if they make a suggestion of getting this installed versus that, I would take it. I could have easily gotten installed a cheaper product but when I came back to get an upgrade on it, it was easy for them to do. You pay for quality once hence the prices might be a tad bit higher here, but you do get what you pay for.
Service:
There are always a multitude of people lined up to help you. They know what they are talking about and they will try to save you as much money as possible. If its not going to be a good install then they won’t recommend it to you.
This is the definition of a true ma and pa store. It is conveniently located on state street next to Hoopes Vision.
Overall, really impressed by this business and how it is run. If you have any car customizing you need to do or need to get a second opinion, I am sure the staff at Laketown will be glad to help

Reputation is a powerful thing and Laketown takes their reputation seriously. Everyone is capable of an off day and for whatever circumstances when I took my boat in last year I was not happy with my install and posted my experience on Unilocal.The following is what separates a shop that cares about their reputation and those that don’t. John the owner of Laketown went to great lengths to track me down after reading my Unilocal review and personally call me. He apologized, and asked for the opportunity to make it right.
I am extremely happy to report I took my boat back into Laketown and they went through my issues and delivered their high standard of 5 star work. I should also mention, John even wrote me a check and a personal note to cover a repair I had done at a big box store to fix a problem with the original install. What impresses me most is they never asked me to change my negative Unilocal review, they simply wanted the chance to make it right and earn back my business.
The moral of this story is every business will tell you they stand behind their work. But do they? At Laketown you can know with confidence, reputation is #1 and I’ve seen first hand they stand behind their work.

I love my new stereo and Remote Start Alarm installed by Angel and the Crew. Great people to work with. I wish them continued success to them.

I love music! My husband decided to surprise me with a new stereo from Laketown Speed and Sound. I was so excited, as I LOVE to listen to music in my car. With the stereo installed, I read the manual, eager to test out all the new features. At first, I was quite disappointed as the base was really quite distorted. I love club, techno, and dance music. Quality base sound is a must-​have feature for me. I read the manual and fidgeted with it and just couldn’t get it quite right. I took it back to Laketown Speed and Sound and Gordon help me resolve this issue. I played with it for a few more days and really could not get the volume that I wanted. It almost felt like there was a governor on it. I called the store back and spoke with John. He did a little research and told me Angel could adjust the amplifier and that should fix it. Today I took the car into the shop to get the amplifier adjusted, Angel came out adjusted the amplifier and within 10 minutes I was having a dance party in my car!!! The guys at Laketown Speed and Sound were very patient with me and helped me achieve the best possible sound. I am very happy with the service that I received from them. Thank you guys!

Very professional install by Angel. Didn’t have to tell him where to put the bass know and he picked the hardest place to put it and it worked out perfect. Great value and prices were the lowest I could find. John and his son Isaac were a huge help.

Laketown, you misleading vixen. I drove by your shop, which is in a tiny, retrofitted home, numerous times before I stopped by. I hope you’ll forgive me. I just always figured from your name that you catered to the people who seriously modify their cars and drop $ 10k for audio/​visual automotive equipment. That’s definitely not me. Although judging by some of the high-​end cars in the lot, as well as the equipment in your showroom, if that’s what customers are looking for, I’m confident you can help them out.
I was simply looking for an inexpensive stereo to plug my iPhone into. No speakers, amps or subs for me. And while I wasn’t dropping a lot of coin, your owner, John, was more than helpful, showing me various stereos, explaining the pros and cons of each, and not once did he try to upsell me.
When I told him I was looking to buy and get it installed today, he told me «no problem.» And within about 30 minutes I had a brand new stereo installed, and my old one wrapped up nicely and sitting on my passenger seat.
I also liked how John had his two younger boys there. This place is definitely a family affair. John mentioned he has owned Laketown for about 10 years.
So the next time one of my friends is looking for audio equipment for their cars, I’ll make sure I steer them away from the large big-​box chain stores and into Laketown.
