I love this place and gift shop here. Unfortunately their Sunday hour have been changed to closing at 5pm. They haven’t updated google or yahoo or Unilocal yet. Darn. I saved them for last on this Sunday. needless to say, my gal pal presents will come from another place. won’t make it back till after Christmas. :-( This is a great store for crafty shopping, upholstery fabrics and trimmings and home décor as well as presents. I try to get here quarterly.

If this rating were simple for selection it would be five stars. They have a wonderful selection of material, fabric, and other sewing décor. Their side store that’s attached has some really neat items as well. The reason for two stars is the service. I have been here twice and both times had a somewhat negative experience with the staff, mostly the second time. My first visit here I just got the vibe that the women working were«uppity» and could tell that I was a novice when it came to fabric. HELLO! How is one supposed to learn if they don’t ask questions? Thankfully, my interior designer was with me but still, I felt unwelcome and like a burden to the two ladies I spoke to. The second visit was even worse! After spending $ 1,000+ at this store, my interior designer told me to meet her there to swap out some chairs that she was recovering for me. When I realized I was running late to pick up my mom from the airport, my ID just said to leave the chairs and she will pick them up, no problem. The staff inside were TERRIBLE about me leaving these two chairs and told me to leave them outside INTHERAIN. I was furious! My designer was literally 10 minutes behind me and they would have sat in the store for no time at all. The woman working there was a total jerk and because of her attitude, I will not be giving this store any more business. What a way to treat a customer!

Being a complete newbie to furniture reupholstery, I took my good friend and neighbor Dinah with me for help. While I was glad I did, the folks here couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful. To be clear, Cowgirls and Lace is the retail store, but it joins the upholstery part(Le Ragge Ruggs) where they have bolts and bolts of fabric. They also have a last call room that’s a must see. I snagged a much needed very high quality lampshade for $ 20. Of course I bought a cute purse at C&L, but this is more about the fabrics. The staff were patient since I was there for two hours and changed tacks a couple of times! They offered samples for me to take home — they even let you check out larger samples, but I didn’t need to do that since I found and bought the fabric I needed. Reba, the owner, even suggested furniture re-upholsterers and shot straight with me to keep me from overpaying. She also offered to hold the fabric for me until I got a proper yardage estimate from the upholsterer, but again, since I wanted some extra for a couple throw pillows, I bought all they had. Yes, you do get only store credit if you return something and you must return within 7 days, but that is not a reason to give the place just one star since the return policy is clearly printed on the receipt. Of course, they have such cute things that store credit is not a bad thing. Also know that if you buy fabric cut from the bolt they won’t take it back — not unreasonable, but be sure before you buy.

Beware, if you buy anything here and you have to return it, you only get STORECREDIT. My daughter purchased a blouse for me in May of 2013. The gal at the register said if it didn’t fit we could return it within three days for money back on the credit card. It didn’t fit, I returned it and they would not honor what their clerk told us. They gave a receipt for store credit. When I went back months later I had to go through waiting for them to find my credit. Then I still had credit left so they put it on a gift card. Today I finally used the remaining 30.21. More than a year and a half and I’m glad to not have to worry with the credit/gift card situation. I won’t be shopping at Cowgirls and Lace anymore.

Wow, had I known just how HUGE the fabric selection was at Cowgirls & Lace back when I was looking to reupholster a few chairs, I would have made an immediate beeline to Dripping Springs! Even my husband, who could care less about home décor, commented on how nice the inventory was. Despite the store’s name and rural location, they had plenty of modern, un-fussy fabrics that you don’t stumble upon in other stores around Austin. I assumed the price point would be higher because of the boutique feel, but the fabric was right in line with or slightly less expensive than their competitors. And the customer service was so darn friendly. They greeted us like regulars rather than city folk who stumbled in while spending the day at local wineries. Beyond the fabric, there were tons of gifts that would be perfect for baby showers, bridal showers, birthdays, and the like. The pricing was steep on a few of the pillows and candles, but there were deals to be found. Imagine Cowgirls & Lace as the more sophisticated cousin to the plentiful gift shops in Fredericksburg. Next time I head that way, I’ll make sure to pop in again.

I absolutely enjoy Cowgirls & Lace. The only thing I hate about it is, I never have enough time, or money, to browse around. This store literally has everything you could possibly want from kid stuff to adult likings. It’s fun, It’s fancy, and it’s out of the ordinary. They have all the fabric you could EVER want here, If I ever wanted to find the perfect bed, and bedding, I would go here. Granted, they are a little pricey on some things, but man, I almost think it is worth it. They have candles, fabrics, clothes, toys, shoes, birthday stuff, home décor, etc. If you are ever in Dripping Springs, you should stop by this place. The staff is always super nice and very helpful. They have an adequate amount of parking, and the place is HUGE!!! It’s very girly here, so don’t take the Hubby! Mine doesn’t like it too much :) Enjoy!

Cowgirls and lace has an abundant supply of material for any need. If they do not have it in stock, it can be ordered. The store in front can be deceiving, not the place you would expect, but it is located in the middle of nowhere. Very country feel to it, which is not my thing, but loved the fabric selection, so I can overlook that part.

First of all, great name! I originally thought this store only sold great fabrics and neat accessories for your home, but they actually do custom design work too. I worked with a great designer who helped me pick out coordinating fabrics and trims for a whole set of bedding(dust ruffle, comforter, shams). The bedroom looks SO much better, and if I weren’t so lazy, I’d figure out how to post a photo. Their prices are surprisingly reasonable for having such high quality merchandise. I now go there about once a month to check out the latest goods.

On the way to Austin I decided to pop in, they did have a lot of fabrics, unfortunately I had to fly back to San Francisco and did not buy anything. I am not sure if the prices are that cheap everywhere or if I’m just used to different ricing on the West Coast, but GREATDEALS!

After having been through what seems like every fabric store in Austin, I ventured out to Dripping Springs, where my search finally ended. They have more bolts of cash and carry fabrics then anywhere else I went to and they have many more books full of swatches to review. The customer service was outstanding and very helpful. They know the inventory and was is appropriate and more importantly, what is not appropriate. If you live in Austin, I recommend making the drive — it’s really only about 20 minutes southwest of downtown

This is one surprisingly large selection of fabric and material for a small country town. I guess a lot of people out here make their own clothing, curtains, and upholstery. Other interesting country themed products and home decorating items.
