I was pleasantly surprised how nice this restaurant is. I wish it was on the East side of Dripping Springs, vs past the current high school, but you can’t have it all I really hope they are able to stay in business. Tried a lunch special — 5.99. I was hoping for Menudo but they didn’t have any. I got an enchilada and Carne Guisada. Not an overly generous portion of food but sized right. Food was nice and hot, and it was pretty good. I did walk out somewhat disappointed because I really like Mex more than Tex-Mex and this seemed to be more on the Tex-Mex side. However, after studying the menu more, I think I will go back again and try some different things. If you live in the DS area, it’s good. If you like Flores, you should try this place — you might actually like it better! 11⁄20 — Second Visit — Had Beef fajitas –10 $ — large quantity of food — nicely presented and tasted very good. All high quality food. Tortillas are just bulk made(like the ones you get in the grocery store) and no cheese which I found surprising for the cost. The food came out on a large plate vs. a sizzling platter which is mostly for show anyways. No liquor license –and not a lot of folks but a pleasant meal. If you visit, expect them to not have some of the menu items, and be prepared to pay a $ or 2 more than you may be accustomed too. However, I think for the quality of the food, it is worth it.

It takes alot for me to get excited about any new restaurant in Dripping Springs. There have been some serious contenders over the years; but most have ended up in shambles. Hopefully, Vallarta will persevere thru and become a mainstay in the DS dining scene. First, they have an established Taqueria already stashed in the local convenience store producing decent tacos and gut busting burritos. Another local taco stand leased this space and didn’t last 6 months. I never even had time to review the spot as it was gone that fast. The folks at Vallarta scooped it up and opened a few weeks ago. You’ll find the usual suspects plus multiple seafood offerings, tortas, Cuban style Bollios, and a spicy Menudo! The Shrimp Enchiladas were delicious on my first visit. To my delight, the rice and beans met my high expectations. The heat from the salsa had a nice balance that intensified with each bite. I gotta say I’m cheering for Vallarta to hang around and give Flores a run for its business. The contrast of styles and menu variations lead me towards Vallarta without hesitation. I can’t wait to Unilocal about my future visits!
