Came here for my daughter’s birthday because she likes it because they have an ice cream machine. Worst meal of all time. My daughter got chicken tenders. They were ok. My three year old got Kraft macaroni and cheese and it was completely awful. It was dry and looked like it had wharf scrapings in it.(What were those things?) How do you screw up Kraft macaroni and cheese? Wife and I got the soup and salad bar. Soup is leftover stuff jammed together to create«loaded potato» soup. Salad bar is salmonella poisoning waiting to happen. Overall, it was putrid and made me want to injure someone because the total bill came to $ 40. This place should have a huge Mr. Yuck sticker on it. I would suggest anywhere but here!

Tried it for dinner, we had a party of 5. Inside is a little tired looking, has some memorabilia on the wall. Service was good. Almost everyone had the salad bar, it was definitely on spartan side. The soups where good and they had hot bread. The steaks where very good, definitely a cut Above Ponderosa. If you are going for the steak this is a good choice, if you want salad and hot food bar, you will be disappointed.

I pulled off the highway to get soup and salad and those great cheddar biscuits at at Red Lobster billboard said was 3 miles down the road. Thought I had missed it so pulled into a Hoss Steak house parking lot to look up Red Lobster on Unilocal and saw these reviews that Hoss had a good soup and salad bar, what the heck that’s what I wanted anyways let’s try this place. If I had see another reviewers comparing it to Ponderosa I wouldn’t have gone in. I was pretty disappointed in everything they had the on the soup and salad bar and then actually got a little scared with I opened the bill to see it was 4.99. The price explains the quality. I wouldn’t say I overpaid for lunch but I don’t think I would try them again even with a $ 4.00 off coupon.

I am never disappointed by a Hoss’s. Steaks were awesome and perfectly cooked! I absolutely love the salad bar! Always fresh and clean!

Found this place when we discovered T Ponderosa resturant closed at 8:30. Similar format to the Ponderosa, but no hot food on salad bar which wad disappointing. However, salads were fresh, and out steaks cooked perfectly. Reasonably priced. Service excellent. Still perfer the Ponderosa, but this was a good choice.

of course it’s not the best cuts of steak you can get but it’s been consistently cooked perfect. sides and soups are really just meh. same thing goes for the desserts. however you can find something you like from the choices there. hoss’s has now become a safe option for dinner for me.

This place is getting 3 stars for being a really good, full meal after a day in the field!(In the field scientist sense… don’t even go there with hick non-sense!) 10.99 for surprisingly really good tender steak tips(with the sauce on ‘em). The rice pilaf is just rice-a-roni, but at least it wasn’t dried out. The onion soup at the salad bar was really quite good. I let croutons get soaked in, let some cheese melt, and all that was missing was the broiled nature to the cheese. For an included french onion soup, it was really QUITE good! Salad bar is decent enough, desserts were well… lets say the fruit was fresh enough. Not a bad place for a quick buffet.

Mediocre at best. We stopped for lunch while traveling to the east coast and were surprised by the high prices. The soup, salad, bread and desert bar was nice, but definitely not worth the price. The service was average. The restaurant seemed clean and the restrooms were clean.

When we are driving back to the east coast on I-80, we sometimes stop at Hoss’s to break up the trip. Hoss’s has it’s strong and it’s weak points. Overall, I’d say the weak ones outnumber the strong ones. This is sort of similar to Bonanza. Remember those places? They have a big salad bar /dessert bar /soup bar which is included in most of the entrees and so if you pick an inedible entrée as I did this trip, you can always load up at the trough at the salad bar. Usually, I get some kind of steak, but this time I was going to get one of their burgers and when I realized that the salad bar was an add-on and that adding it on made a burger cost around the same as a steak, I just opted for a chopped steak which did include the salad bar. The chopped steak, which the hostess had explained to me could not be ordered medium-rare came out charred into something that emulated a hockey puck. They must have cooked it the month before and kept it warm on the grill, just waiting for me. So since they did have knives and forks, but no hammers and chisels, I made the best of it at the salad and soup bar. The soups are always pretty good at the bar. I will say that is one thing I like about Hoss’s. And they have chili and chips to make nachos and an assortment of breads including hot garlic bread. I would say Hoss’s fits more into the fuel as opposed to the food category, but on that stretch of I-80 there just aren’t so many choices. The steaks, likely FDA graded as twelve grades below choice and heavily marinated in order to soften the otherwise likely to be leathery consistency, are not completely terrible. I’d say if you are a well done carbonized meat fan, you might like the chopped steak, but I can’t vouch for it. For soup salad and high carb desserts, Hoss’s is just fine.

I know Hoss’s is a chain, and certainly not one of the dominant steak house chains, but even so I had a really pleasant meal here. The buffet was fine, nice fresh salad greens were out, and the steaks were cooked properly and in a timely manner. Don’t misunderstand me, I’m not driving any special trip for the Hoss’s steak… but I wouldn’t hesitate to go back for another meal there… which I can’t say about every steakhouse I’ve been to.
