The quiche and the baked goods were WAY better than you usually find in a café or restaurant – they taste like they were made by the hippie friend you always invite to your potlucks and you’re like – WHOA! girl this is sooo good! and she’s like thanks I churned the butter for it it this morning — anyways, the ingredients and the execution were A++ in everything we had, highly recommend

Fantastic food. We had the grass fed burger with homemade Yukon gold fries, lemon pepper cod, barley soup and a turkey sandwich. Everything was very fresh and cooked perfectly. It is a store so you will be surrounded by grocery items if you eat in one of the booths. The front of the store is a small place to eat at a high top bar looking out the window. Small staff that run the whole store so good is not especially fast but worth the wait. We had a great time and really enjoyed everything we ate. The cook came and talked to us about each of the dishes that we are and told us about how things were all locally grown. This is a true locally owned store-a rarity indeed.

stumbled upon this humble eatery on our trip to Dubuque. We had the roast beef sandwich, which was supposed to be the best in Dubuque in 2011 or something like that and it certainly lived up to its reputation! but the highlight has to be the Indian special(can’t remember the name) — not a real fan of Indian food but this really won me over! the garlic hummus completed our awesome experience and I would recommend this place to anyone craving for delicious food prepared with love!

I have to say it is rare to come upon an eatery so unique and so exceptionally pleasing to the palate. It was Tuesday night which is Indian night and I was sold walking in the door, not so much for being a big Indian cuisine fan, but the aroma that enveloped me as I stepped in brought me back to my Grandmother’s kitchen as dinner was being prepared. Pair that feeling with a warm and welcoming family aura, quite literally as the husband and wife owners are creating garden fresh magic with a friendly and talented team of chefs. The dish of the night was a pumpkin curry with Swiss chard, brown mustard seed and lentils then garnished with sliced almonds and sesame seeds, served with brown basmati rice and chapati bread. These locally grown, organic and fresh ingredients blossomed with flavors unparalleled. I am already planning my next trip to Dubuque and will make The Food Store my first go to.

Great ‘clean’ food with a very attentive and friendly staff. Offerings are perfect for gluten free, vegans and those with no food issues. Live music available some evenings which we hope to catch some other visit to DBQ!

Amazing Indian food! Stopped in on the way through town. The meal was fast, fresh, filling, and portions were sized just right. Varied drink selection. The grocery store in the back also had some great finds that are tough to get in the everyday store. This place is worth frequenting!

This place is a little hard to find but so worth it. The stir fry I had was great. Fresh veggies, freshly foraged mushrooms. And the service was phenomenal. He helped us find other fun stuff to do around town. Stop in for great food!

Enjoyed a stir fry of veggies, tofu and rice for lunch. Delicious! For dessert a large oatmeal raisin cookie. Perfect. Lots of cream sodas and other sparkling bottle drinks and great small grocery with healthy options.

This a great little mom and pop grocery store in downtown Dubuque, IA. The deli section is only open for a couple of hours for lunch(11 – 2?) and for dinner(5 – 7), but the food was excellent. I had the special, which was a burrito, and I definitely recommend it. Unfortunately, it took quite a while for the food to come, even when the place was empty, so I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone with a short lunch break. But otherwise, it’s one of the better meals I’ve had in Dubuque. And it’s vegetarian friendly, which is a plus.

It feels good to eat at The Food Store! The tuna sandwich with avocado, beet-bean-green salad, and potato salad combo($ 8.95) I just had for lunch was absolutely delicious and incredibly flavorful. And I can rest assured knowing I nurtured my body with healthy, wholesome, organic ingredients while supporting a small, local, family business. The store itself is small but has a big variety of products and new seating near the back as well as in the front window. It is more expensive than other local grocers, but the family really cares and researches their products for sustainability, local small farm support, lack of chemicals and GMOs. Really well done.

Very simple and straight forward food. Everything was very fresh and made right in front of me. I got the tuna sandwich which was served warm, red pepper hummus and some kambucha to drink. Wish I would have gotten there earlier(arrived around 1) for some quiche! One thing they could improve on is to get a bigger sign, I passed the place three times before I spotted it.

I stopped in for lunch with my girlfriend while visiting Dubuque, and we both thought it was a great find. I had the Italian Beef. It was juicy and delicious, on a really great bread. Also, the people were friendly and the family atmosphere was refreshing. I hope to try more of their food the next time I’m in Dubuque.

Probably one of the best burgers I’ve ever had! Wish Peoria AZ had a local fare like this unique establishment. If you’re in the area don’t walk by — you will miss out! Cuisine made from the heart and soul!

I came from out west, visiting family, looking for quality food. This place delivered but perfect. High quality organic food that I’m used to seeing in California. The owner and chef prepared us a grass fed burger right on the spot that was delicious. Sweet potatoes, glazing, pickled peppers, grilled onions, and fried potatoes on the side. Unique and very tasty. Soup and Kale salad with beets. Unbelievable meal to find in the winter in a Midwest restaurant. Pleasantly surprised by the quality and great to see it made right there in front of us. The store also had ONLY quality organic ingredients and products for sale within a beautiful historic building. David, the owner, told us about the Food Store’s history and also tipped us about local spots to hit. This place exceeded our expectations and will be visited again. I highly recommend the Food Store. Thanks David!

This place knocks it out of the park, guaranteed. For those who dig unbelievably tasty, from scratch organic and local food The Food Store is hands down the best place for many many miles. I had the best curry of my life here! Indian Tuesdays! Burrito Wednesdays! Their specials are very much that. Can’t wait to try out their homemade doughnuts on Farmer’s Market Saturdays too. Enjoy the warmth of the open kitchen and the groovy tunes to boot. That’s not all!!! The store’s co-op style grocery offers the same high quality in produce, as well as a truly good program for owners, and it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. As avid travelers, we check out co-ops throughout the country, and the Food Store is our favorite one. We really like the aspect of getting to know the good folk who are running the store, putting the love in the food, and providing a keystone for the community. Go there! You will not be disappointed.
