The Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area provides some of the best parks and hiking available to Atlanta. While the Medlock Bridge unit is not very big and doesn’t offer the amenities of some, it’s still cool. And it’s more than just a boat launch point, although admittedly not much more. Located just south of the river on Medlock Bridge Road(might be called Peachtree Parkway at this point), there’s a short access road to the very large parking lot. It also has spaces for five or six boat trailers. You’ll find several picnic tables on the grounds, with at least three located between the parking lot and the river. Other than that, you have maybe two miles of trails. As with all Chattahoochee River NRA units, the trails are pretty well marked on the map and you’ll find a map located at each trail intersection. Not that you can get lost. The main trail that runs along the river is quite scenic and is an easy walk along a flat dirt path. The shorter trails up the hill take you into typical Georgia riverside forest terrain. You can easily walk the whole trail system in an hour. Besides having few trail miles, the biggest drawback to the Medlock Bridge unit is the city noises you’ll hear. With Medlock Bridge Rd(Peachtree Pkwy) just 500 feet away at most, I heard a lot of traffic noise as well as construction activity from the neighborhoods. That is, of course, something you deal with in a suburban or city park but it was quite prominent here.

This is more of a Boat launch option on the Chattahoochee River. If you plan to have a nice family picnic this is not the place. Its got plenty of parking for $ 3. A couple picnic tables but I’ve never seen anyone use them. A walking trail, very lightly used, kinda scary for my liking and plenty of Bank fishing spots. I usually go for the bank fishing option for Trouts and the occasional Carp(seen people catch em). This area is patrolled by the Game wardens so follow the rules even though you may not see anyone when you get there especially during the weekends. If you plan to fish read the fishing regulations mainly the types of bait to use coz they will give you a hefty ticket. The park is open Dawn till Dusk all year round. Have your fishing license, pay the parking fee, use the correct bait and enjoy your day.
