Duluth Pack Store

I wanted to get a a Duluth Pathfinder back pack. I noticed that Pathfinder had a 20 percent off on all their gear, Duluth supplies their Pathfinder packs. I went to the Pathfinder online store, they were out, but had a notice that they would notify when they got some in, no rain check mentioned. I called Pathfinder and they told me they would not be able to give me a rain check, I asked why, they said, Duluth couldn’t get them any bags before Christmas. Being on the Duluth websites minutes before, I noticed they had them at full price, now I’m getting the picture. Pathfinder can’t supply, so they blame it on Duluth, then when you call Duluth they give you a song and a dance. Yes you can get them, but not at the 20 percent, yet you have them, but Pathfinder can’t get them. This sounds like a bit sneaky. After getting nowhere when I called Duluth, I told them I would take my business to Frost River. This is no way to run a business, trickery and deceitful ., I like Dave Canterbury from the Pathfinder School/​store, but now won’t buy because of this.

It’s no secret that Duluth Pack products aren’t cheap. But I do definitely believe that they fall into the category of «you get what you pay for.» I actually love this store because it’s a great chance to check out all of the bags and products you might order online and actually kick the tires, so to speak. You can see how the different sizes compare, feel the actual materials, see what the colors look like in real life, feel the ruggedness and smell the leather — all before you set your heart and order a $ 200+ bag. I actually like the ability to see it in person before I buy it. Plus it’s just really fun to look at all the bags!
This store is just a retail location — they don’t make the bags here. And it’s right in Canal Park, which is a bit on the touristy side. Still, the merchandising here is smart. In addition to all of the Duluth Pack products, the store is also kind of a general store for all things north woodsy and a good amount of apparel and other small type items that one might buy when on vacation and in a shopping mood in Duluth. It’s a fun store to shop (where else can you buy north woods wild jam and a loon-​shaped cookie cutter in one place?) and is worth the stop even if you’re just looking and don’t end up buying anything.

I got a sweatshirt there and it shrunk and got really weird after drying it. Do not put soft sweatshirts in the drier. Good prices on clothing shirts and stuff. Very expensive backpacks and stuff. Great quality though.

Good packs that last forever. I have five Duluth items and love them. USA made. Leather is nice love the market tote. Shipping price is crazy.

Every time I’m in Duluth I love coming to Duluth Pack. Well made clothes and outdoor accessories sold in a very attractive environment. A great place to shop.

I order online and love everything I’ve received. It’s all made with excellent craftsmanship and quality materials.
Their items are comparatively expensive to mass-​produced, assembly-​line, overseas crap, but for American materials, American labor, and American quality that they stand behind, you can’t find a better value.
Compare their American bison leather goods to any other store selling bison leather, and you’ll see what a great value Duluth Pack is. I have the full range of their safari duffels, a couple backpacks, a market tote, a few messenger bags, and dopp kit, and it all cost less than one entry-​level LV bag.
Invest in timeless style and unparalleled American quality the manufacturer and maker (literally the craftsperson who writes his or her name on the tag) stand behind, not a trite logo or sweatshop junk. You deserve it.

I love just about every item in this store but won’t ever buy anything unless it’s marked down because they charge more than what it should cost in another store. Oh and also there shipping prices are outrageous. $$$$$

I’ve never been to the actual store in Duluth but their on-​line ordering system is totally wack-​o! My boyfriend ordered me a pack for a Christmas gift, and while I realize they are probably super busy at Christmas, they gave him no confirmation that his order had actually been placed and his credit card wasn’t charged. When he called to inquire they told him that they «don’t send confirmation emails» but they would send a shipping confirmation. After 2 weeks still nothing! He had to call again and they said that his order still hadn’t been processed. Finally when they actually did process the order the email they sent said «your order will be sent out today… or Monday at the latest.» WOW way to give yourselves as much leeway as possible!
I won’t deny they have great products but seriously something needs to be done about the way they do their on-​line orders and shipping. It’s extremely inefficient!

I think I visit Duluth Pack every time I visit Duluth; but it’s so expensive…
I actually found a few things this last trip to purchase, but after waiting forever in line — i learned that their credit card processing system was down. Ughhh!
But besides all that, I really do like the products. Great quality… apparently lasts forever (unless you lose it). Great gifts!
They do have some factory seconds and sale items upstairs. (Hit or miss…)

The things you will buy here will last you until you’re dead.
Their backpacks and purses are virtually indestructible. I subject my things to a great deal of adventure, and Duluth Pack stands the test of being dragged across Europe, no sweat.
They also sold me my first pair of Chaco sandals and let me tell you… Worth. Every. Penny. My Chacos go on in April, and do not leave my feet until November. Ever worn a pair of Manolo Blahniks with that trademark cris-​cross tan line? Sexy, sexy. The Duluth Pack folks will help you pick out a sandal that will make your feet cheery, even on the longest, muckiest portage.
(An extra note on Chaco sandals: the company will fix them for virtually nothing, and the repair turnaround time is mind-​blowingly fast.)
If you are going to the Boundary Waters, please make this your first stop. They will outfit you with everything you need, from compasses to winter hats (it’s August, you say? Have you BEEN to Minnesota, I say?).

I’m not sure how I initially discovered Duluth Pack and started purchasing their high quality (and life time guarantee) items on-​line. This year I was reminded of this ongoing business, when I wandered into their large booth at the Minnesota State Fair (Dairy Building) wearing one of their sturdy canvas backpacks.
My first Duluth Pack purchase was a leather accented canvas backpack that served me well during my 2006 Earthwatch Expedition to Churchill, Manitoba. Unfortunately, that one was either lost or stolen soon after. However, my replacement (and current) backpack made the second Earthwatch trip to the Mackenzie Mountain Barrens in the Northwest Territories of Canada. They’re handsome and comfortable backpacks that are built to last and take plenty of punishment along the way. Hopefully, this one will be around when Gayle and I head off to Portugal next May and when I plan to tentatively take my next Earthwatch Trip to Ecuador in 2011.
Duluth Pack is also your place for that next trip to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. Closer to home and in addition to my trusty backpack, my canvas gym bag, duffle bag, camera case (aka ammo bag), and toiletry kit all sit waiting for my next adventure within the next urban or rural wilderness I travel.

I love walking around this store! And they are DOG FRIENDLY! I get most of my BWCA gear here, including maps, and my permit! You can check in here night before and then put in the next morning without stopping at an additional ranger station. The staff is wonderful! Friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful!
