Okay so this is not a japanese ramen noodle house, but it’s actually a good lamian chinese noodle house! Maybe the bad reviews were expecting Japanese style ramen. I tried the beef and pork noodle hand pulled noodles as well as the fried meat dumplings. All were good but the beef noodle was my fav. Went here 3 times and the taste were consistent. Clean and polite service.

This ramen house offers very authentic«Lanzhou Lamian» as the ones I had back in China. It’s easy to tell that the ramen noodles are all hand-made rather than machine-generated. The beef comes with the noodle soup is quite tender and juicy, and the portion is generous given the price. The interior of the restaurant is not fancily-decorated but clean. The dishes are also served fairly fast(prob less than 5 mins after we ordered). It’s a good place to stop by for a quick lunch if you work anywhere nearby. Overall I had an enjoyable dining experience. I agree that one’s taste is greatly subject to one’s culture and past experience. I believe the reason why many customers have given fairly low ratings is because they get confused of «Chinese Ramen(Lamian)» and«Japanese Ramen», and therefore has wrong expectation on the food. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who had tried Chinese Ramen before(probably in China) and loves it.

First of all, taste is specific to individual’s own experience so one person’s great could be another person’s awful. I recently went to a mediocre restaurant that my date thought was the best place ever. My ramen experience has been Umaido in Suwanee and Raku Tonkatsu in Duluth with Umaido being best.(I know both of these are really Korean) I had been waiting for this place to open to try some miso ramen but it turns out this is not Japanese ramen. I cannot distinguish between Japanese and Chinese characters but Chinese language has distinctive sounds. I had never tried dry ramen and curiosity usually leads me to culinary disaster so I got the house seafood soup ramen. It needed peppers added to give it some flavor. The noodles were good. Overall though, I could have gotten better soup at Jade Dragon on Satellite and boiled up some vermicelli at home. As for service, I was not offered the tea, the water was warm and not refilled and a waitress inexplicably offered me a plastic fork(!) after I was nearly half done eating. I know I’m a round eye but jeez, some respect?! I paid $ 15(with tip) for a bowl of disappointment. Gas is cheap — go to Umaido. Or to Raku Tonkatsu as a worthy substitute.

So so authentic!!! Love the noodle, roast fish and dry pot! It’s the exact same taste as what you will get in China. Wish I could live more close to it!

So I’m not 100% sure why the bad reviews for this place. Yes. The name is a bit deceiving — Ramen vs. LaMian, but for Chinese people, the two are synonymous. LZ Ramen House is located in the same shopping center as Sweet Hut. The inside of the restaurant is spacious with plenty of seating. They specialize in noodle dishes, knife-cut and hand-pulled noodles and also soup and stir-fried. There are an assortment of cold dishes you can start with, and a couple of specialty dishes that we did not order. My family + the boyfriend and I ordered the spicy beef tendon and tripe(Fuqi Feipian) as well as 3 soup noodles and 2 stir fried noodles(a mix of pulled and knife cut). I really liked the spicy sauce they used on the beef tendon and tripe. The beef is cooked well, not too chewy. I ordered the beef stir fry pulled noodles. The beef itself was mediocre, but I really liked the noodles. While I’m usually not a big fan of thin noodles, these had such a great bite that I didn’t mind it. The knife cut noodles were cooked perfectly al dente, an issue I’ve seen at other noodle places with overcooking noodles. The stir fry noodle dish is very«homey» and there’s not a lot of pizzazz. It comes with bits of scrambled egg, onions, scallions, beef, bean sprouts, and Napa cabbage — exactly what my mom would make at home(sans onions). Overall, they have a large variety of meat, veggie, and seafood noodle dishes. They also have intestine and fish/beef ball options if you’re feeling adventurous. If you like Chinese noodles, I’d ignore the bad reviews and give this place a shot yourself.

We have been to this place twice. The hand pulled noddle is okay for the price. Customer service is absolutely bad. One of the server was rather a saleswoman, after we ordered more than sufficient food, she insisted on selling us the grilled fish and the hot pot. The second time we were there, she was pushing for it as well — so we’re like okay sure we’ll get the fish, two entrees of fish, one hotpot and when it come up, we have a total of 4 fish eyes in one entrée — somehow against the common sense, since one fish only has 2 eyes. So we had a made up fish from fish parts, which they said its fresh live fish. During our whole dinner no one even bother with adding hot tea or anything. When we ask for a check, the Taiwanese lady has a real attitude. No kidding. Never gonna come back to this place again.

The place is a little small, also looks busy when we got there on for Saturday lunch. But the serve speed is not slow, and the waitress are nicer than average Chinese restaurants. We got beef knife peel noodle 牛肉刀削面 and beef stew hand pull noodle 牛腩拉面. The knife peel noodle is definitely taste better than hand pull one. I don’t think it’s really hand pulled anyways, taste more like normally machine made noodle. We also ordered a dish with combo of different meat 卤肉拼盘. The dish includes beef, squid, and pork intestine. The beef was ok, squid tastes like sweet rubber, we didn’t try intestine. I saw many people ordered the fish. We may try that next time if we go back.

Went back again but the outcome was worse. Order 3 noodle soups but all the soups were barely warm and the duck in one of the soup was still cold in the middle.

Funny how some reviewers think ramen is not lamian. Forgive them for their ignorance of how Japanese borrowed words from Chinese thousands of years ago and they still sound the same. However Lanzhou lamian refers to a very specific northern Chinese ramen that has its unique soup, meat and flavor. It is misleading what they sell is Taiwan noodle. Their fuqi feipian is also not authentic with vinegar in it! Lots of it! The ramen is actually very good while meat is a bit too chewy. I had to go to the northern dumpling house later to have some real northern Chinese food.

Well, this place is not for you if you only eat Szechuan food or American Chinese food, or you think Ramen is original from Japan. If you want real Lanzhou Lamian, this is also not the place. It’s Chinese beaf noodle. Not Lanzhou Lamian. Tastes not bad.

New ramen place in Duluth. The store is very clean and the staffs are nice. They are very attentive and ready when a order is ready to be placed. And that is about the end of the positives. The food was mediocre. I order 2 noodle soups and wanted the hand-cut noodles, which they are known for. However, they ran out after we placed the order and were asked to use the regular ramen noodles instead. The soup came out luke warm as if its been placed on the waiting table for too long. I also tried the dumplings, it was full of meat and not much flavor. When I tried to pay for my meals, the cashier did not seem pleased when I told them we wanted to pay for our food separately. Overall, choose this as a last resort if ramen is a must for your next meal. Otherwise, there are better choices else where.

I’m so dissapointed and regret for walking into this restaurant. Heard about the news of a ramen noodle place opening up in duluth and had to go in to try out this new place. If you want horrible sevice, long wait and no flavor food this is the place for you. Don’t think i will give this place another chance in the near future.

We came by because it just recently opened and wanted to give it a try, the name LZ Ramen sold us, Decent looking interior, somewhat modern. Once I Looked over the menu I was very confused. Nothing on the menu was under ramen or had the name ramen. It was a lot of items called; Han pulled noodle, not«hand pulled» Im pretty sure it really meant«hand pulled out of the frozen bag noodles». Worst part about this place was the service. It took over 45 mins for us to get our orders of Han pulled noodles and our tea refilled. One of my friends ordered the beef Han pulled, the other got the chicken Han pulled, and I ordered the Duck Han pulled noodles, each one more disappointing then the other. The soup was like drinking salt water and the meats were as if they never even heard of seasoning. Servers didn’t even attempt to apologize for the wait or the nasty food. We all took a few bites, paid then left to eat somewhere that would redeem our stomachs for going to this place. We all won’t be coming back. I don’t recommend this place even if this is the last place in Duluth that’s opened late at night. Your better off eating Cup of noodles from Kroger.

One of the worst place I had in a long time. I came here with friends and the wait was so long to get our food. Over 1 hour for our beef noodle soup to come. And it was so horrible we didn’t even eat it. You can have better cup of noodles than this place. And this place doesn’t even have ramen noodles, it’s Chinese frozen noodles not even hand pulled. The dumplings were good though. Don’t forgot to bring some bottled water because your not even gonna get a refill on drinks.

Oh look, there’s a new Ramen restaurant in Duluth can’t wait to try it! Not so fast there buddy… Before making the trip be sure you understand that this is a Chinese restaurant(Given away by the Chinese characters on the sign). Not your typical Japanese Ramen which may seem a little misleading, however it’s referring to «la mian» or hand pulled noodles. Phew. Now that the misconception is out of the way the place is pretty visually pleasing and the menu ranges from pork buns including xiaolong bao, hot dry pot dishes, misc. chinese rice dishes, noodle soups and dry noodle dishes. I came here for hot noodle soup(Ramen) and left with a more Chinese style hand pulled noodle soup. I recommend the hand pulled house special noodle soup, which contains tasty hand pulled noodles, slices of beef, tripe, fried egg, bok choy and pork. Broth was not bad but not great either not too much flavor until you add spicy oil. I left full and satisfied but unsatisfied that I was mislead. Oh well if you’re in the mood for some Chinese style hand pulled noodle soup or any other authentic Chinese food here’s a new place to try.
