Rice Cake Factory totally on the opposite side of Pleasant Hill Road, on the opposite corner of Satellite Boulevard from where the Unilocal map will tell you to be. While the location is on the plaza corner and spacious, I am not as impressed with the space as the other rice cake shop. There are only a few meeting rooms and the space seems cramped. The experience left me with many questions and not many answers, here are a couple; The rice cake bar did not look very fresh. The ddok I ate were very wet and mooshy. Also, you cannot see anyone making the cakes, like you can in other shops. Are they made at the location or come from somewhere else? The bing soo images they use are from a popular shop called Caffé Bene. Are they associated with them? To my excitement, they do have large fried Hottoek cakes on the buffet bar, but they are room temperature. I hope they heat them up on a pan/griddle versus a microwave. The traditional drinks are quite nice and refreshing though. I had the Shikhye(rice drink), and it was served in a large bowl— which is a nice touch from the to-go cup with straw I was served at other locations. It seriously does affect the taste of the drink to drink from a bowl, instead of a plastic straw.

Stumbled upon this place today while running errands with my cousin! It looked interesting. I thought that they would have sweet rice cakes, but the ones I ended up getting were more salty, but still tasted awesome and looked great! The workers here are VERY sweet and helpful and I tried their kimbap. REALLYGOOD! And they gave like 20 pieces for $ 7. Great deal! Next time I come here, I am going to bring a Korean friend to help translate everything haha.

My friends and I came here for their bingsu(similar to shaved ice) and I have to say I was impressed. It tasted very refreshing and definitely satisfied my sweet tooth. The place was very beautiful and fancy. The interior has a contemporary french bistro style. The price was about $ 8 for one bingsu which was decent for the amount you get. It’s easily sharable between 2 – 3 people. I ordered greentea bingsu and it was too bitter for me. The strawberry bingsu on the other hand was perfection. The staff members were nice and the atmosphere was average. We went at around 9pm so the place was semi-empty. Overall, it was a very enjoyable experience. I would definitely come again.

Rice Cake Factory is a Korean rice cake shop and café that opened October 2013 in Duluth’s Mall Corners shopping center near the corner of Pleasant Hill Rd. and Satellite Blvd. It’s on the same side of the shopping center as Song Do Korean BBQ and Haru Ichiban(opposite side from Lattea and Ming’s BBQ). It’s hard to see from the street. You’ll have to drive into the shopping center to find it. Rice Cake Factory opened roughly one year after Sweet Rice. Sweet Rice is located on the other side of Pleasant Hill near Gwinnett Place Mall. Both Rice Cake Factory and Sweet Rice are very similar. They’re new, stylish, and specialize in dduk(or tteok — Korean rice cakes). I’m a fan of both businesses and hope they can coexist and succeed. Rice Cake Factory is nice, modern, and spacious. The interior is bright and shiny. Glossy hardwood floors, exposed ceilings and ductwork, painted all white, track lighting, and neat, colorful artwork(some made with fabric) on the walls. The furniture is comfy and contemporary. Part of the seating area is decorated with traditional European street lights. There are two semi-private, glass-enclosed rooms, ideal for group gatherings. Overall, it’s an aesthetically pleasing space. The atmosphere is relaxed and relatively«quiet» compared to other Asian bakeries, cafes, and bubble tea shops, making it an ideal for a work-study spot or if you just want to unwind and hang out in a less noisy and trafficked environment. Be aware they do play K-pop music in the background here. I like the five displays mounted to the ceiling at the entrance«welcoming» you inside with music videos. Rice Cake Factory has one self-serve, double-sided, two-shelf line stocked with various sweet and colorful rice cakes. Korean rice cakes are made with glutinous rice flour(chapssal) and are shaped, steamed, and prepared with a variety of ingredients. It’s analogous to Japanese mochi. Every item has both Korean and English descriptions. The English descriptions provide a romanized name, sweetness level(from«0» to «3»), and ingredients listing. This is similar to Sweet Rice except Sweet Rice doesn’t tell you a sweetness level. I think the sweetness level is helpful information to have since some rice cakes can be rather«unsweet.» Korean rice cakes are generally not as sweet as the pastries you may be accustomed to at Asian bakeries such as White Windmill and Sweet Hut. It’s a different kind of food product. Plates are available for you to place the rice cakes on. If ordering to-go, Styrofoam plates are available. When you go to check-out, the server will plastic-wrap your to-go order for you. The rice cakes are prepared fresh daily. Most of them are concealed underneath plastic wrap, which you will have to remove yourself before you are able to access the rice cakes with the provided tongs. This extra step proves to be a bit cumbersome, but the plastic wrap is needed to maintain the moisture and freshness of the rice cakes. Unlike Sweet Rice where rice cakes are priced individually, the rice cakes at Rice Cake Factory are priced by weight at $ 4.99 per pound. I’ve tried an assortment of rice cakes. Examples with ingredients listed: Chalsirudduk — sweet rice, sugar, salt, red bean Julpyun — rice, water, salt, mugwort Suldduck — rice, sugar, salt, water, jujube Ggotgam Rice Cake — rice, sugar, salt, water, citron, mung bean, walnut Gaedduk — rice, water, salt, sugar, mugwort Baram Rice Cake — rice, water, salt, sugar, bean Gguldduk — rice, water, salt, sugar, sesame Samsaek Danja — sweet rice, water, salt, sugar, red bean, castella(wheat flour, egg, milk), mugwort, soybean Black Sesame Injeolmee — sweet rice, water, salt, sugar, black sesame Overall, I’ve enjoyed all the rice cakes I’ve tried here. Some standouts include the chalsirudduk(red bean) and the powdery black sesame injeolmee. I recommend trying an assortment of flavors. Just pick the rice cakes that look appealing to you or have ingredients that you like. They’re inexpensive which makes it easy to experiment and try new flavors. Some of the rice cakes have juicy centers. Some are chewier than others. In addition to rice cakes, Rice Cake Factory also has a limited menu of food(e.g. homemade soup, porridge, dumplings) along with a beverage selection that includes traditional Korean teas, coffee and coffee drinks(e.g. caramel macchiato, green tea latte), desserts(shaved ice — patbingsu, ice cream, waffles), juices, and bubble tea. Most drinks are priced around $ 3 – 4 each. If ordering a drink, I suggest going with the Korean punches or teas like the sikhye(sweet rice punch with pine nuts), cinnamon & persimmon tea, and plum tea. The latter is sweet and sour. It’s not listed on the English menu, but it is available if you ask for it. The sikhye is nicely presented in a glass bowl. Friendly, fantastic service. Wi-Fi network ID: ricecakefactory1. As an alternative to the coffeehouse/bakery, try Korean rice cakes! This place is one of two Dduk cafes in Atlanta, and in my opinion a far superior one to Sweet Rice, the other establishment. There are two main factors for this: 1) the dduk is chewier, and 2) their beverages are much better. The space is roughly divided into 2 sections, one when you walk in with several tables by the entrance, separated by a low wall housing another set of tables and the main dduk and counter area. There are also 2 glass-walled rooms for groups. The dduk area has a large counter space sectioned by different dduks. It is self-service, where you pick out the rice cakes you want onto a plate and take it to cashier counter and order your drinks and cash out. Concept therefore is exactly the same as Sweet Rice. I find the staff are much nicer here, always smiling and greeting. The dduk has a few variations, but I like the chewy types. Here the dduks are appropriately chewy, and not the overly soft, stick-to-your-mouth types that I dislike. It isn’t the same level as the rice cake shops, but it is pretty good. The highlights are the Korean beverages, namely sik-hye(sweet rice beverage) and soo-jung gwa(cinnamon-persimmon drink), which appear to be handmade and not a mix. Both are really good. I’ve also had their coffee which is pretty standard, nothing spectacular. While I think the food is 3 – 3.5 and the drinks are 4, I give this place a 4-star mainly because it represents a fresh alternative to the coffeehouses littered around town. Sweet Rice is packed with people but this place is pretty empty. I don’t know why, but it has a lot of promise that needs better attention from patrons.

The waffles here definitely beat arte’s, seven coffee’s, and top cloud’s. They’re soft in the inside with a crunch on the outside, and they top it with lots of fruits, ice cream, whipped cream and chocolate syrup. I’ve only had a mocha and mango juice, and both were just fine. It’s never crowded here, so there are always open tables!

Bitchy Korean workers! If they think you don’t understand Korean, then they’ll talk about you in front of you. FOOD: It’s the same rice cakes as in Sweet Rice on Merchants Way. At least you get treated better over there and NOT here.

I love rice cakes! In fact I love most everything rice. Fill it with a little mung bean and you have the perfect treat. We stopped in here on one of the coldest days of the year, looking for some carby goodness. The place was deserted, probably due to the weather. We meandered around the rice cake bar in the middle and picked out some colorful ones and some safe ones. I got some coffee, and my husband got the cinnamon iced tea. The coffee and iced tea were good, and the sweet rice cakes were great. The savory ones were really bland. I think those could have been better. The flavor was really really subtle and the rice cakes were almost glue consistency which is weird. It was okay. The best thing about this place is the huge amount of space they have. You can bring large groups and all sit at the same table. I might drop in again to check out the rice cakes when they are fresh, as opposed to sitting around on a long boring day.

Quiet, modern setting to enjoy some sweets at. Located in the Mall Corners plaza at intersection of Pleasant Hill and Satellite. My GPS first took me to a random car place, but I was able to figure that it was across from Cho Won and next to the post office. Clean, wide, open space with plenty of seating with Korean music playing from speakers. I’m not sure why another rice cake store opened so close to Sweet Rice, but the interior is nicer and larger. The large daifuku(rice cake filled with red bean paste) are about $ 1 each and slightly less sweet than Sweet Rice’s. Any rice cakes without pricing means they are $ 4.99/lb. The drinks here are around $ 3-$ 4 and the barista will find where you are sitting so you don’t have to wait for it at the counter. Overall, this place has friendly service and is a pleasant setting for to grab a snack at.

Rice Cake Factory is going to be a great place to hang out. It is very spacious, even including a private room where you would have meetings with a big group. I love the way the place is decorated. Their dessert is good because it is in small portion so you’ll won’t get tired of it fast. I had their rose tea, it was decent but it was kind of expensive for one cup of tea. My friends had the quince tea, which was sweeter than what we expected. And finally we had the plum tea. It had a strong smell and very strong flavor. So if you’re into passion fruit flavor, you might like the plum tea.

I’m not a huge fan of Korean rice cakes. I’ll eat them if they’re there, but I don’t go out of my way to eat them. I decided to check this place out because I know some people I love started working here. ;) Despite my love for sweets, I hate it when desserts are TOO sweet. The rice cakes here are not too sweet. I like that the little card for each kind of rice cake indicates the sweetness level from 1 through 4. Why do I give it 5 stars? There was a huge selection when I went. Whenever I go to the other Sweet Rice place, there’s not enough variety of dduk left. I like the décor of the interior and its cleanliness. Also, the tapioca pearls in the green tea bubble tea were perfect although I think the green tea was made straight from powder(not matcha). I can’t find places with good tapioca pearls anymore. =( And the service was great. Maybe it’s because I know them already. but I assure that they’ll treat you well! I want to try the waffle next time.

Rice Cake Factory is directly related to Sweet Rice in Duluth, GA. It was opened up by the brother of the owner of Sweet Rice. It’s basically the same type of dduk(rice cake). Everything is basically the same except for the staff and the décor. I would probably choose Rice Cake Factory over Sweet Rice because it is decorated nicely.
