Admittedly, I know very little about «fix-​er upper» stuff. I’ve only been to this store 2 times. The first. My father is a retired fireman and one of his most prized possessions is his money clip. It’s personalized with his badge number and he’s had it for as long as I can remember. Like anything else, things break. I went to Dumont hardware to see if I could get gorilla glue because my dad kept mentioning it. After explaining to bill the story, he spent over 25 minutes researching other options for me because he worried the glue wouldn’t be a permanent fix. Long story short. I went home with the perfect adhesive… I’ve never met a person who spent not only his time but gave me his full attention. I’ll make my second story very quick. I needed some key identifiers for work keys and home keys. He helped me out putting on the rubber pieces himself because his daughter is a beautician and he knows how fumbling with key chains has ruined her nails. I am also a hair stylist so this was an unexpected topic. I never expected to talk about cosmetology in a hardware store; yet I couldn’t have felt more comfortable. This store is owned by a true gentleman. Thanks again bill. Your knowledge and your kindness is a breath of fresh air

The local hardware store is a dying breed, which makes places like Dumont Hardware all the more precious. What they don’t have, they can get for you, and what they do have in abundance is good advice. Bill not only knows hardware, he also knows Dumont and the surrounding communities. What you get when you buy from him is confidence, and, while it’s hard to put a price on confidence, its value is quite clear.

These small hardware stores are dying out because of the big chain stores like home depot but not a single big chain store can compete with the knowledge of the owner of this place. Not only does he have what you’ll need, he’ll go on detail of how to use it or how to go about it.

Take a step back in time to an era when salespeople actually cared about customers and wanted to make sure that they buy the correct item. Billy is a true class act and helpful in not only selling his customers an item, but also on how to install or fix items correctly — saving you tons of money on plumbers, handymen, etc.
Dumont Hardware offers a variety of everything for your home. If there is something that he doesn’t stock, Billy actually sends you over to a competitor who may have it — this speaks to his professionalism and caring about his customers.
I’ve used Billy for the 10 years since I’ve purchased my home and have purchased everything from paint (and supplies), electrical, plumbing, lawn and general household items and I’ve always received the benefit of Billy’s helpful installation advise.

This place is a classic! Right out of a Norman Rockwell painting. 2^nd Generation store owner has been around forever. Everyone knows Bill, ‘the hardware guy’. Bill will freely give you advise on projects and spend 30 minutes with you finding the right nut or bolt — even take it in the back & file it down for you if needed — all this for a 50 cent item! The store is not huge but seems to have everything, and if Bill doesn’t have it he can tell you the best place to find it. Dumont Hardware is truly a local treasure. You may have to navigate around some of the ‘old timers’ who are in there ‘chin wagging’…but that’s part of the Rockwell’esk.
