Awesome food and service at El Charros Grande! We often get it to go but it’s just as yummy when we get it home! They give you lots of food too for the prices.

After being stuck in traffic on I95 all day, we were in the mood for a sit down dinner, and fortunately this terrific Mexican restaurant is conveniently located off exit 73 in Dunn, NC, and is very reasonably priced. Also, clean and authentic, and NOT a chain. I love supporting a local business, rather than a big corporation. They take reservations, which I like; however, you don’t need them, even on a Saturday night. The service is fast and friendly: our drinks and complementary chips and salsa came quickly. Even though there was a large group(25+ people), we were still given excellent service. Hubby ordered the steak and shrimp, which he didn’t realize was fajitas, but he said they were quite good. The only issue he had with his meal was that he wasn’t asked how he wanted his steak cooked, and didn’t think about it until it arrived well done. I ordered the soft shrimp chimichangas, which were very yummy, and so filling I could take half home for breakfast the next morning. The sangria wasn’t bad, and the price was awesome: only $ 3.75 per glass. Definitely worth a repeat visit or, in our case, a repeat stop off the interstate on our way to or from Florida.

Thrilled to find this amazing Mexican restaurant on a recent road trip to Florida thanks to my fellow Unilocalers! As others have stated it’s an unassuming little place right next to the Quality Inn hotel, but don’t let that deter you: This is the real deal. Authentic Mexican food(and this is coming from a Mexican food snob), wonderful friendly service, and easy access from route 95. Lots of veggie options too, which is always an added bonus. Thank you El Charro Grande for saving me from yet another greasy fast food meal on the road.

This place is amazing! Totally unassuming, but by far, the best authentic Mexican I’ve ever had. Easy on/off from 95… literally 1 minute! Two hearty combination plates and a cheese quesadilla came to $ 19.07 with tax. Unbelievable! Don’t miss it!

Awesome authentic Mexican. The added surprise was the number of vegetarian options. The spinach enchiladas and stuffed poblano chiles were incredible. A must stop, bring your appetite.

If you find yourself lucky enough to whip out your Unilocal app prior to passing this gem… you’re already a winner. I would go back strictly for the salsa you are blessed with prior to ordering. They should consider bottling that savory treasure. On to the shrimp tacos… Lord have mercy on all other Mexican joints… these were perfect! The sauteed onions along with the perfectly seasoned and cooked shrimps were freaking getting on in my mouth. Seriously eat here… I got lucky today :)

Found this place whole driving home to SC on 95. Excellent. Fresh food, generous servings, very good Mexican cuisine. A MUST repeat. Don’t be fooled by the attached motel. This restaurant is fantastic. Great service also.

Ok. So I can’t give this place 5 stars as that’s what I’d give somewhere that was outstanding. However, it’s all relative. In this area, it probably is a 5 star restaurant as there’s not much else on offer. Burger King gets 1 star… how wrong can you go with a Burger King? Sorry, I digress… on arrival it felt like the kind of place you wanted to wash your hands after opening the front door but please don’t let that put you off. The place wasn’t exactly full, but not so dead that turning around and going to Burger King would have felt like a better option. The waitress asked us what we’d like. Booth or table. I love this… who cares, just get me a seat. The menus are a little sticky and have so many options you can’t help wondering if the chef just has each meal ready but adds rice/no rice or beans/no beans according to which delight you’ve gone for. The waitress was very pleasant although seemed to be stalked by a colleague who must have really muscled in as she eventually took over our table. We obviously look like good tippers! They bring chips and salsa, very nice. Margaritas were good. The guacamole tasted a bit like a packet mix, but the entrees were all enjoyed and plentiful. So plentiful that as my husband couldn’t finish his the waitress(the original one) announced that we could have ordered a half portion… for half the price. Nice, great to know that after the event. TOPTIP… order half portion unless you’re starving. Our son finished his meal with a ‘fried ice cream’. His comment ‘it’s like ice cream with cornflakes round it’. Here’s the thing. It’s fine, the food is ok, cheap, tasty and I didn’t need a bucket during the night. Always a positive. However, I’m still sticking with 3 stars as I thinks it’s only fair to my fellow Unilocalers.

Stopped in Dunn for the night, checked Unilocal for the reviews… as usual most everyone was right about this place. Simple, clean, comfortable and authentic place with the charm of real people making it welcoming. Don’t be put off because it’s beside the quality inn or by the small entrance — go inside and you won’t be disappointed. Greeted right away, and seated in a quiet booth. They had Sol beer which is unusual, and which I’m fond. The menu was full of choices and there were some specials, but I decided on Carne Asada. While I waited they had chips and one of the best salsas I’ve had — a little spicy but good! The order came out in 15 minutes or less… amazing! It was one of the best I can remember having. Everything was presented well, super fresh and just perfect. This place is exactly that… a hidden gem.

Exit 73 off of interstate 95 this place is a hidden gem! It’s attached to the Quality Inn hotel and I can not tell you how happy you will be here. It’s 12pm on a Monday and we were greeted and seated immediately. Before our drink order was taken a male employee that wasn’t our server brought us warm chips and amazing salsa. The chips and salsa kept coming when our basket was empty. I ordered a steak, shrimp and chicken fajita Texasana and my son ordered a lunch chimichanga with a side of rice. He wants me to note that his lunch was like heaven and he’s sorry for almost choosing to Taco Bell. My diet coke stayed full, my sons glass of water was great. I wish I had the option to give this restaurant ten stars. The employees work together which is an amazing concept that some patrons don’t like. I was assisted by 2 females and 1 male and it did not bother me in the least because everything that came to my table was correct. I am shocked to see 4 and 3 stars but some guests just don’t understand authentic food, great service and a true Mexican atmosphere.

A terrific little place with authentic home cooked freshly made Mexican food. Right off 95. Steal smothered in fried onions with green peppers and raw onion was terrific. Taco frito salad was great too. Very reasonable. A very good place to stop.

What a wonderful surprise to find this excellent food at a stop on interstate 95!!! Exit 69? I knew it was going to be above average the minute I tasted the salsa and chips. I will definitely plan my trip home around a meal here again. Correction exit 73.

We got here 30 minutes before closing which was our fault but the staff was very friendly. We were greeted with warm chips, salsa, and cheese sauce. The menu was as big as the margaritas. Our plated were full and the fiord was deliscious. I highly recommend El Charro which is located right off of 95.
