Ted Fay Fly Shop

These guys are great. The service and local knowledge is fantastic. And it’s always a great time to have a few laughs with Bob and the crew before heading out on the water. Highly recommend.

This is the cutest little fly shop and everyone that was working was so nice and helpful! My boyfriends family has a little place up in Dunsmuir and we needed recommendations on fishing spots, since this was our first visit up. We went to the fly shop in hopes of them having worms. They didn’t have worms, but they told up exactly where to go to get them and where to fish legally with worms. We were so pleased with their recommendations that we went back the next day to thank them and buy my boyfriends dad a sweet t-​shirt with a fly on it.
I would totally recommend this place! Support small businesses and the amazing people behind them!

I had a great experience with this fly shop. I rented a full set up of gear and received great advice from the owner. This shop made my trip much more enjoyable. They are also right next store to a local coffee shop and brewery, which is a hell of a combination.

One of my first stops when I head out from Marin to go up fishing in the Mt. Shasta area is this fly shop – even when there is nothing to buy it’s just a great first stop for a warm welcome and great fishing advice. Whether it’s where to go fishing that day, or what the best rod setup and flies to use, Bob (the present-​day owner) has never failed me or my fishing buddy.
I guess my biggest complaint would be that Bob keeps giving me things when I try to buy them! He is the most generous person I know. A great friend over the years, you can’t do better than going to this fly shop. I was there every morning before heading out fishing the last four days.

Bob is the best… I stop by sometimes just for a friendly chat. I would never go anywhere else for my fly-​fishing needs…

The owner (Bob) has done a fantastic job of carrying on the tradition of this local institution started by fly fishing legend Ted Fay. Bob knows the local waters and is more than happy to point you in the right direction. Whether you are new to fly fishing or a seasoned veteran stopping in to see Bob is a must. Doesn’t hurt that the best restaurant in the county (Cornerstone Café) is just across the street.

Drove all the way up to Mt. Shasta only to realize I’d forgotten to pack my waders. Was headed back down to Sports Authority in Redding (1 hour away) to get cheap new pair when I stopped by Ted Fay for flies and fishing advice. Super-​helpful, super-​friendly guy there saved me the trip to Redding, selling me a nice former rental pair at a nice discount. Plus, fo course, got all the latest intel on the river and the flies to take advantage of it. Great staff, great store.

Who doesn’t love a destination shop? First of all, it means you are in Dunsmuir to fish, and the fishing is good. Second, Bob, the owner, is a no BS kind of guy. He doesn’t try to load you up as you head out the door. He knows all the local guides, but doesn’t push a guide on you. He won’t sell you something you don’t need. The shop has been around for a long time and the downtown location was a great re-​location. He’s open earlier than seems reasonable and has a really good selection for the local rivers and lakes. He ties, a lot, so he’s familiar with the needs of tiers as well.
Basically, this is one of my favorite places. If you are fishing the Upper Sac or McCloud, you need to stop in here first. After that, head over to the Cornerstone for a bite to eat and hit the water. Bob will steer you right.

This fantastically friendly and well stocked fly shop is located in Dunsmuir California. It’s the perfect place to stop if you’re on your way to one of the many great fishing rivers in the area. The guys who run the shop are so friendly and knowledgeable. It’s a must if you need to get outfitted for fly fishing or are just in need of a few items.
