Got eggs Benedictine. The yolks were fully cooked. Almost no sauce. Didn’t sub the fries. Didn’t have mustard. Took forever with the coffee. Wasn’t worth the $ 10

Went here late Friday night to see Nikeita Crochlow. A Jazz singer on Boney James new album from California. I had planned to talk a little business over dinner but we sat up front and the music was a little loud for the size of the place. They have just moved into the new location and the sound panels on the wall were coming down. Just need a few more… placed securely. Although loud, the jazz was wonderful, the food was average, they were out of 2 of 4 desserts and out of raspberry sauce for other 2. One detail, nit-picky thing; was the tables were really small and rocked. As previous owner of a restaurant, this is one detail should never be overlooked in any restaurant. It’s inexpensive and simple to fix. My main issue,(why 4 not 5 stars) was the male/female ratio. 90% women is too much estrogen for me. Lol I hope they market more to single men. Love this place will definitely frequent often. Love the live music and ambience.

Been my favorite downtown spot since it began. First time at the new location and same great feel. Got the Beyu Breakfast and it as delicious. My sunny side up eggs were perfect! Didn’t get coffee this time, but still beat place downtown for a coffee and the service is always great

Like the music at night(there’s a cover fyi), but food not so much. It’s nice to sit back and enjoy the live music, and with everyone else around you doing the same, it has a relaxed kind of feel. Not a fan of the drinks though. Had a hot chocolate that was way too watery and lukewarm. The beignets are pretty good, but you have to wait a long, long, long time for them to bring an order(of three) out — even when it’s early in the morning and the place is pretty empty. Don’t think I’m going to willingly come back here.

I come here often for meetings, or just for a cup of coffee. One of my favorite places downtown. I love the coffee and breakfast. Beyu has a wonderful atmosphere and really friendly staff. Parking can sometimes be a little tough on the street, but I almost always find something within a block.

This 1 star is solely based on the beignets. I got an order of 3 with powdered sugar. I didn’t like it, but I ate it. It tasted old. It was rubbery, hard to chew. I was so sad because I was super duper excited to have some! No bueno. The host and bartender, however, were great! A++ customer service. The venue is small and cute, I enjoyed the live jazz that was playing as well.

This was my first time coming here and I must say the food and atmosphere was great. I was here with my partner and we both loved the food. We ended up getting a Beyù Burger tho my partner only wanted cheese I ended up adding bacon and cheese to my burger and I must say that was the best taste burger I had in a while and I eat out a lot and the fries that came with were out of this world. I thought it couldn’t get any better but I was worse I let my partner choose the dessert and it was the best choice that my partner made it was a Bread Pudding and I thought I died and went to heaven. The stuff here are very warm and welcoming and some even make you laugh plus the manager checks up on everyone which I thought was a nice add touch. I will be coming back soon to get another burger.

Good hearty breakfast. I had the French toast platter and it was a lot of food. French toast, eggs and potatoes. Filled me up and tasted great.

Atmosphere: 8 of 10. Staff efficiency 2⁄10; friendliness range: broad(nice, friendly, disdain and dismissive) food quality: 7⁄10; food quality and portion for price: 5⁄10; music(2 piece jazz duo 8⁄10 I wanted so bad to like this place– live music, some nice local twists on standard brunch fare; cool space and even some nice touches — donation to a charity with every coffee ordered– but such a time wasting disappointment. Actually started this review before ordering because I had time. Lots of time. We were told the wait for Sun morning brunch would be 20 min; it was 45. When we were seated I counted eight(8!!) empty tables, most already cleaned. People continued to wait throughout our meal with at least 3 open tables and 6 – 7 bar stools open the entire time. I looked around to see if there was some code I was missing and briefly wondered if we were victims of some kind of ism– race, geography, Springsteen or Yankee discrimination maybe. When I saw at least 5 or so other diners waiting for seating, coffee, food and checks, I decided, nah, the disinterest by the people profiting from our misfortune seems to be universally applied here. Waitress came after 5 min for drink order; coffee and water came 10 min later; food(beignets w fruit sauce; egg/cheese biscuit; yogurt w fruit/granola; chorizo eggs) 25 min after ordering. Presentation was the strength, taste/quality ok. Unnecessary extra charges– charge extra for a coffee refill? No. Really? Slice of cheese on otherwise plain egg biscuit? 4 – 5 tablespoons of a jam that came with the beignets? Bottom line — this was either an unbelievable off day on many levels– did I mention the bathroom cleaning checklist that was operating on a WEEKLY and DAILY schedule vs hourly??- or a jazz club/bar that needs to get out of the food business? Toward the end of our meal a man I believe could have been a friendly manager or owner came over to fill the long empty coffee cup and clear the long half– empty plates but the without an apology. I could only conclude that no apology or explanation was needed in his eyes because management and staff here are fully committed to getting money out of diners’ pockets and they were succeeding wonderfully this sunny late February Sunday

This small café in Durham is a cute and fun spot whether you’re looking for a quick coffee or a relaxing night out. The coffee here was delicious. Just a plain latte but with the cream on top it was perfect and just what you will need on a cold day. If you can’t make it during the day, no need to worry because the night time is even better! They have live jazz nights so come for a date or with a group of friends for a fun night out. It’s a good spot for a more low key night out if you’re looking for something fun to do but don’t feel like dealing with crowded bars. The drink menu is plenty big and the wines are decently priced. And, the live Jazz music is very good! The seating here is limited. It’s not that big which makes it more intimate, but also narrows down the seating options if it’s crowded. Some nights for the Jazz it does cost an entry fee just to get in. The restaurant is also very dark. If you’re looking for something to do on the weekends that’s different than a typical night out of just dinner or the movies, I’d highly suggest coming here!

There’s been a «25 minute wait» for an hour and I’m still waiting(even 25 minute wait for people with reservations) and there are about 5 open tables and the whole bar is open. Really confused and disappointed, seems like a good place. UPDATE: was finally sat down after 1.5 hours(1.25 hours after the original wait time). Many people waiting left. Terrible experience for Valentines Day.

Pretty average food here. I had a Caesar salad which was pretty small had a bitter fishy taste to the dressing. My wife had eggs, bacon, and biscuits. Nothing special. The biscuit was a bit greasy. They had a leaky toilet and a broken pipe in the back so the bathroom floor was ponding. Not a great experience. Food and two glasses of wine $ 34. Service was relatively quick but a bit imprecise and confused. Our waitress tried to charge us for the daily soup when she had told us they were out of soup.(Out of soup at lunch on a day when it is 30 degrees outside?) There are better options in downtown Durham in my opinion.

We’re driving back up to NYC and a local took us here for a bite. The space is lovely — there’s both bar seating and tables — open and airy. Everything we ordered was good. Even though it was late in the afternoon, I had breakfast. The grits and biscuit made me so happy! I liked how the bacon was cooked — crispy but not overdone. My only quibble was the scrambled eggs were slight lightly overdone. The Hubs had a turkey bacon club. Nice thing is he had a choice of pork or turkey bacon too. The bread was grilled nicely, the sliced turkey fresh and the flavors on point. You can order most items with a choice of salad or fries. To make up for the sandwich(definitely NOT carb free) he ordered the salad. He said, and I quote, «I would eat that again.» Had a nice cappuccino to round out the meal. Our friend said they have a good live music program most evenings too, so am looking forward to coming back and exploring that when we return for the AOCFest.

Great food. In the heart of downtown Durham! Great location. The food is awesome. If your looking for a good brunch spot in the downtown area, you can’t go wrong here. Everything on the menu is awesome. My personal favorite is the chicken mclovin sandwich. Parking is a monster as there is no where to park downtown unless you utilize the parking garages up the block. The parking situation is the lack of 5stars. Not really the restaurants fault.

The food and atmosphere are good, as usual. The service is so out of line with everything else here. We had French toast, home fries, breakfast burrito, croissant. All delicious. Coffee is good. It was a bit warmer than usual for December so I ordered iced coffee and it was made fresh. However, if you get a server Brittany, do yourself a favour and ask for ask for someone else. You will be glad you did. She checked back with us once to bring the check. No refills on coffee. We asked what time they opened tomorrow(Sunday) and she said she didn’t know since she doesn’t usually work on weekends. No offer to find out. BeYu would benefit by her working at a competitor. It’s such a shame that such a good place can be degraded so severely by such terrible service. Give this place a try, just not with Brittany.

Loving the atmosphere here. This is one Of my favorite places to come downtown Durham! If you don’t want to eat in simply go to the café area to the left. They have live music nightly and they constantly have special events. The food here is great every time. I usually order Beyu breakfast. That includes two eggs anyway that you like, bacon, and a biscuit or toast. There is also A large menu café selection and drinks. The staff here is always very nice. This is a great spot for locals and visitors wanting to taste some local North Carolina food. We will have to find street parking, and be careful not to park in a parking lot that is in the tow-away zone. Find a nice parking spot about a block or two away and walk the beautiful streets of downtown Durham.

Visited DEC20th to hear Yolanda Rabun in the 5pm show. As usual she was fabulous. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Manager went out of her way to resolve an issue for me. Fabulous. However… I come quite frequently and the food is not impressive. Several times I have ordered the pecan Bacon burger and was satisfied. Tonight it was badly burned and crunchy… not appetizing at all. Manager offered to bring me something else however my appetite was ruined. Not the birthday dinner I had hoped for. So… Beyu please step up the consistency in food preparation. They get the stars for the music talent and courtesy!

I’ve only got two items from here. A latte, which was good, and the mexican coffee, which I was hoping would be like a Café de Olla(a very delicious mexican coffee drink with cinnamon and sweetened with piloncillo), and it was ok. The service was good, so that is a plus.

Beyu has the best atmosphere in town! I came here for a brunch with some friends, and we really enjoyed the live jazz performance that was happening at the same time. The staff is so friendly and helpful, they make you feel like family. I got the eggs benedict which were good, especially I liked their home fries. I also got their Mexican latte, which was fantastic. I love the spicy lattes like that, and they do it really well. I love Beyu’s atmosphere, and their food is up to par, so I give it 4 stars!

Cute spot, came here for a quick brunch before going to a wedding. The service was very slow and we ended up having to rush out after scarfing down our food(we only had 2 hours before our next destination). I ordered a regular coffee, it took a very long time to come and was your average cup of café joe. The food was tasty, we got the Eggs Benedict and an attempt at a breakfast platter but missed on the eggs. Regardless the salad was quite good with candied nuts and fresh lettuce. The Eggs Benedict had barely noticeable hollandaise but sat upon delightful biscuits. We wish we had time to try the hand crafted espresso beverages and beignets, but perhaps next time. Hands down the best feature was the great piano man. The music really set the sweet atmosphere and made our entire adventure very cozy and pleasant.

The food was fantastic. We got the chicken Mclovin and the shrimp po’boy with the trenches fries. We also got a caramel apple cider that tasted just like dessert. Sadly the service wasn’t so great. We sat down and waited at least 10 minutes for a server to give us menus. When we ordered a drink we had to remind them about it. We also sat and waited for at least 10 minutes for our waitress to come and ask about our check even though we cleaned up our area and stacked up the plates.

This review is for dessert and drinks only. We stumbled in here on a June Saturday night for some free jazz(excellent), coffee drinks(interesting!) and dessert(would try something different next time). We quickly learned that this is a place for relaxation. No one is in a hurry. It’s a place to linger. We plopped down at the bar since we didn’t want to take up dinner tables as we had already eaten. Wanting a dessert-type drink, I was very intrigued by Caffe Spumante: «a unique twist on the mimosa, featuring Frangelico, Kahlua, freshly brewed coffee and Spanish Cava. Who knew that coffee and champagne went together so well?» Yes indeed, I had to try something that unique sounding, and it was indeed remarkably good! It took awhile for the Bartender Gal to concoct it, and when it was first presented to me it looked like it had three layers, but by the time I could snap a pic, the layers dissolved together. While I would never in a million years have thought to put those ingredients together, I can attest to it not only working, but being VERY good! Meanwhile, Husband waited awhile for a Caramello Macchiato. This was concocted out of bar-sight and was a beautiful presentation, very rich, and he liked it a lot! We were also brought my dessert choice(Husband mentioned later that he had wanted a key-lime something that he had seen, but didn’t mention in time). Oh well, I had seen pics of the beignets and am beyond a sucker for fried dough so we(I) ordered those. Sadly, this was my only disappointment. The dough itself was quite thick and heavy(and fairly tasteless), while there was something about the raspberry underneath that didn’t sit well with me. The combination kept reminding me of old-time raspberry poptarts(which I never liked). For the first time ever I do believe, in fried dough history with us as a married couple, he liked it better than I did. But we both very much enjoyed the FREE jazz we experienced that night!

If you’re wandering around downtown Durham trying to make up your mind about where to get a bite, you could do a lot worse than Beyu Caffe. I was dodging raindrops a few days ago while sampling all the different establishments that have popped up like mushrooms all over this once sleepy but newly hip town, when I heard the unmistakeable sounds of jazz wafting through a door that had swung open. Walking in, I found myself in a dark café staring at a young trio tuning up and warming up on a tiny stage. Settling down at a small corner table, I ordered a cappuccino while I glanced over the menu, not sure if I wanted anything more substantial. Regulars started trickling in, the tables in front of the stage started filling up, and the rain started coming down harder, so I decided to stay put. And boy am I glad I did! The cappuccino was superb, the music unexpectedly good(it helped that the young jazz musicians were in sync and having fun), my black bean burger tasty(thanks to the chipotle mayo dressing) and filling. So if you’re in downtown Durham looking for a place to chill out and enjoy some live music over a beverage or two, head over to the Beyu!
