Don’t bother, use a vending machine instead for cheese crackers. Ordered the smokehouse salad which supposedly had a good amount of brisket on top. My salad was lots of lettuce, 4 quartered tomato sections, fried onion straws, and slivers of meat. When we told the manager it was lacking meat, she replied, «it has .12 of meat.» Hey, .12 of what? Even if it was .12 of a pound that 1.8 ounces of meat. Don’t bother!

I had an appoimtment in Durham so I thought, «yum, something different for lunch!» I couldn’t decide if I wanted Italian or barbecue. I couldn’t get my phone/wifi to cooperate, and BINGO! i was across the street from DICKEYSBARBECUEPIT. Decision made, I ventured forth. This place has a counter with a menu board above it to order your food. I should have walked out then, because I didn’t smell barbecue!(hint #1)Oh well. it took me a minute to figure out what I wanted. The menu board is kind of mixed up. I found a BBQ sandwich — comes with pickles and onions… What? I asked about slaw, it comes in a little cup.(Hint #2). The sandwich plate comes with two sides. I got onion strings and potato salad. i wanted green beans and mac n cheese, but at $ 2.00 a side, no thanks. I went to a table and my order was brought out to me. They have a sauce bar — Sweet, Carolina, Hot and Spicy and Original. I got Carolina and Original. Original was a little too sweet. Carolina not bad. Unfortunately, the sandwich was cold(see Hint #1) and they forgot my slaw.(see Hint #2). The onion straws were OK. The potato salad,…ug no. It was more like sweetened mashed potatoes with a pinch of Red bell pepper and a pinch of pickle relish, and a tsp of potato lumps. Disappointing lunch.

Three stars is perfect for this spot… yes it’s not NCBBQ… yes it’s a chain… but on a Sunday night when you get into town and some of the other bbq places are closed this hit the spot… add in kids eat free on Sunday and free ice cream and it’s even sweeter… I agree with some of the others that the pork was a little dry(it was fine with some sauce on it)…So if you want something different than BK or McDonald’s I’d go with dickeys but if you are looking for real old fashioned southern BBQ then other places may be better options

I left a bad review on this location while drinking. I realized today this was the wrong dickeys. I deleted it. My bad.

Consistent, tasty barbecue. Perhaps a little pricey, but quality is good and the staff is particularly friendly and helpful. Free soft serve is a nice touch, though I’m a sucker for the froyo place across the street. Definitely deserves better than the Unilocal average suggests.

I’m hoping that the food is worth the wait, because they are definitely lacking some pep in their step when it comes to getting the food out to their customers! I got the quarter plate-pulled pork, hush puppies, plus two sides-Mac and cheese and fried okra. The pork, hush puppies, and the Mac and cheese was just ok. I rather enjoyed the fried okra tho!

I am almost tempted to make this a 5 star review for this location. I’ve had Dickey’s before both in airports and in Texas. We were headed back from Houston, Texas and had to go to Raleigh airport instead of Greensboro. Famished and unable to get some Salt Lick BBQ to go(as it was an early flight) at IAH airport, we were in a BBQ mood-Texas style. So we moseyed on up, okay we drove, to Dickey’s on the way back from RDU to Greensboro. Stopped in well after lunch and it was empty. The good news, the lunch specials were in effect. As we parked we could smell the hickory and were ready to eat! I had the spicy link and sliced brisket sandwich with a side of hush puppies and sweet tea. I noticed they had local sides relevant to the Carolinas, hush puppies, Brunswick Stew, Okra and others. i was impressed with that from a chain. My son had pulled pork and my wife had a loaded baked potato with beef brisket. My son said his was outstanding and as good as anywhere. The tea rocked. My sandwich made me feel like I was back in Texas and I was NOT missing Salt Lick. My wife loved here potato. She asked for more ranch and cheddar and they had it in a snap. The service was warm and friendly and the food delicious! I can see why they can survive as a franchise against local BBQ places. The fee ice cream(a Dickey’s tradition) really capped it off for me. We plan to try the location in High Point(if our car doesn’t automatically take us to BBQ Joe’s) and Winston. Again, it was this close to a 5 star!

I am huge fan of Dicky’s. I lived in Dallas and ate their about once every ten days that was until I bough lunch from this location. Today I bought 1 lb of brisket. I specifically request the brisket be «sliced» not chopped. I got home and the store had chopped the brisket like pulled pork. Chopping the brisket ruins it. I called and everything was my fault. This is not the first issue with this location. I still love Dicky’s but I will NEVER buy BBQ from this location

Even though Dickey’s is a chain, it dishes up some tasty Barbecue. The pork is my favorite and it comes out a little bit dry which means I can sauce it to perfection with any of their sauces(of course, I use the Carolina.) What makes it so memorable and sets it apart from other chains is that they include some burnt bits so it tastes like you are in fact eating it fresh from the pig. Sides are good and it only helps that you get some free ice cream with your meal. The desserts also look tasty but we have never tried them. We actually prefer Dickey’s to some of the local places even though we rarely enjoy chains. If you’re nearby and looking for some good BBQ, give Dickey’s a try.

It is, in fact, a chain BBQ place. Don’t expect any more than that. That said, I’ve been twice and not experienced any of the problems folks here have mentioned. It seemed clean, and while they were a bit understaffed, the staff there were attentive and polite. I don’t know«Texas style» BBQ, but the pulled pork sandwich with their«sweet» sauce suited my Memphis-style taste just fine(grew up in Mississippi, myself). The mac and cheese is tasty. The price is a bit high, so I wouldn’t go super often, but it’s not too outrageous. Around here, if you want BBQ that’s NOT Carolina style, you’re going to be stuck with a chain anyway. This one’s perfectly adequate, and they do have several different flavors of sauce if you’re visiting with people of different palates(such as me with my Greensboro-native roommate). And hey, free ice cream.

I’m not sure that I’m completely sold on this place. I didn’t see the sanitation score posted anywhere and my husband had a puzzled look on his face as he bit into something hard, but since he continued to eat the sandwich and claims it’s the best around I figured I should write a review. The buttery toasted bun put the soft BBQ sandwich over the top. Not to mention the free ice cream and chocolate sauce. If you’re not counting calories, I’d say it’s worth a stop.

I should have listened to Unilocal. The average star rating was below my personal«OK» threshold but I gave this a shot anyway because I was nearby, I was starving, and I love BBQ. Well, my meal here was disgusting. First, as I was in the process of ordering, the girl behind the counter walked away, leaving me mid-sentence, for no apperant reason. She apologized when she returned, but that didn’t sit well with me. I ordered the pulled pork with dill potato salad and jalapeño beans. Everything was so bland and tasteless. The sauces could not save it. The potato salad was good although too creamy. Hush puppies were iffy. The jalapeño beans seemed to be dumped straight out of a can — which brings me to my next gripe. Why use a number system and deliver food to the table when it only takes a few moments to plate the food? The guys down the road at Q-Shack can dish out a BBQ plate in literally 2 seconds, so why does it take this place 4 – 5 minutes? And last but not least: I saw a roach climbing near the top of my booth as I was eating. That’s pretty much all you need to know, right? Please go to Q-Shack instead.

Yes this is a chain but regardless I though it was pretty good BBQ. Yes I am from the flat land of Illinois and except more maybe in Chicago, we have little in the way of decent BBQ there. Certainly not Carolina style. Regardless, I thought this was pretty good BBQ. You order off a wall and sit down and wait a few minutes while they bring it out. Lots of choices of BBQ meats, eight in all I think and the service was great. I would go to one of these again anytime I had the chance.

I’ve come here infrequently for lunch over the last year. My two visits over the last couple months have greatly improved in terms of both food and specials. Mondays in march they are doing a $ 5 Westerner sandwich where you get two meats. I got mine with beef brisket and pulled pork. More than enough sandwich to satisfy on your lunch break and still enough to take home. Really glad to see them doing more specials since one of the big reasons I visited infrequently was the price.

Being from North Carolina, I was excited to see a BBQ place open up close to my house … not realizing it was a chain restaurant, we checked it out. I wouldn’t recommend eating here if you’re looking for authentic BBQ& home-cooked sides. The meal in its entirety lacked flavor and gave me no reason to return. I’d recommend going to Hog Heaven, Backyard BBQ, or Allen & Sons if you’re looking for good quality BBQ!

This paragraph and review is strictly for the food. The next paragraph is for the sweet tea. I knew better than to order brisket, since brisket at most chain restaurants tend to be dry. So I got the pulled pork, and the chicken breast sandwich. I got 2 Westerner sandwiches, so the 2nd meat for both was cheddar cheese-filled sausages. Pretty heavy stuff, but tasted good, although I’d go with the regular(spicy) sausage next time, as I was able to sample that. The sandwich was not bad at all. For a chain bbq, I would go back again(not in a hurry though), hoping for the same good consistency. Ok, on to their sweet tea(1 star). Again, this is prefaced by the uncertainty of a chain restaurant’s possible inconsistency(quality not being tightly controlled) so it could’ve just been this particular batch. My wife said it tasted like syrup, and when I tried it, it was soooo sweet, like no sweet tea I have ever drunk before, and I literally had to go to the sink to spit it out. She was not exaggerating at all; I would indeed have to accurately say their sweet tea tasted like syrup concentrate. I’d be surprised how anyone can drink that without watering down. Just thinking about how much sugar even a small sip contains, I cringe in fear for the health of anyone drinking a whole«Big Yellow Cup».

They f— you at the drive thru. My wife got some $ 20 family meal deal for one«dinner on a busy weeknight». Because she has sense, she got brisket as the meat. When we got it home, it wasn’t brisket, it was cheese-filled sausage. Jews don’t eat that. The sides were a’ight. UPDATE: I got a message from a manager, who asked for my address and phone number to send me some kind of compensation for my «incident», but nothing ever arrived.(frowny face)

This is a bad example of Texas style barbecue. This national bbq restaurant serves beef brisket, sausage, pulled pork, chicken, ham, pork ribs On Sundays, kids 12 and under can eat free with a paying adult. All meals come with your choice of Texas style bbq sauce, pickle and ice cream. If you are a vegetarian, you can choose between 10 different items. I think the best thing on the menu is the sausage and hushpuppies. Dickey’s recently added spicy cheddar sausage in addition to polish sausage. I have not had the ribs or chicken here. Dickey’s also offers salads and stuffed potatoes. Dickey’s has also raised the prices of the items on the menu. Such as a pork and sausage combo will be $ 10.00. The Westerner sandwich combo will be $ 9.00. I’ve had better brisket. Location B Staff A Food C Décor C Health Inspection 98.0

Dickey’s is a Texas based«barbecue» chain that has been around for 70 years(the original location is still in operation), and has opened several locations in the Triangle, Winston Salem, and Southern Pines in 2010 and 2011. There are some good things about their food, unfortunately none that related to the various«smoked» meats on their menu. The setup is typical fast food — you place your order at the counter in the back, pay, and take a number. You proceed to get your drink(the big yellow cups are supposed to go with you for advertising purposes), plastic eating ware, cups of various barbecue sauces, and then grab a seat at a table on which you will find several rolls of paper towels. Our order came out of the kitchen quickly, minus the pork barbecue sandwich I had ordered — got that straight, finally — not that that turned out to be a good thing. The Beef Brisket Plate(cost $ 8) my wife order, with sides of M&C, and Fried Okra, contained 5 or 6 slices of brisket and a hand full of hush puppies. The brisket was pretty nice, moist & tender, but not mushy — Dickey’s original sauce is good on the brisket. The M&C and Fried Okra were very good, and the portions were nice. Hush Puppies were tasty as well. The Polish Sausage Sandwich(cost was $ 8), ordered with Creamy Cole Slaw and Jalapeño Beans, was a little strange — instead of the sausage being on a hot dog or sub type of bun, the sausage was sliced into rounds and came on a hamburger style bun. Poor engineering here, the rounds keep falling out of the bun, and since sauce was added, this became messy. The Cole Slaw was anything but creamy — it was almost completely dry, and even after adding mayo from the little plastic packets, it had little taste. The beans were only ok, too much cumin, too little jalapeño. But the most disappointing of all was the pork sandwich(cost was $ 5.34) — the pork is minced, much like Stamey’s in Greensboro, and had absolutely no flavor, and the sauces available did nothing to solve this problem. Quite simply, as bad a version of pork barbecue as I’ve ever encountered — and I’ve eaten some pork. Left the vast majority of this mess on the table. Not much to recommend at this place, unless you are interested in a couple of good side dishes, and decent hush puppies, and some brisket. You do get free pickles, and soft serve ice cream, but that really doesn’t make much of a meal. There is much better barbecue at a number of barbecue joints close by.
