Dragon Gate is on food points, so it’s commonly ordered by Duke students for delivery. That is only one of two Asian options offered, which is disappointing because no matter how many times I order from Dragon Gate I do not like it. I’ve ordered the sesame chicken, egg rolls, miso soup, egg drop soup, General Tso’s chicken, and bubble tea. I thought all of it was flavorless. Extremely flavorless. I’m usually not a harsh critic, but I have to give Dragon Gate one star because I actually will not eat here again. I’ve given it multiple chances and yet somehow there is no flavor in their dishes. You should go to Panda or Grace’s Café over this place.

A lot of dishes here are hit and miss, but I still give them 5 stars because of their combination of cheapness, deliciousness, and way-faster-than-jimmy-johns delivery time! My recommendations: –Chicken and broccoli** they have the BEST sauce! Really anything with broccoli is delicious. –Teryaki Chicken(appetizer) –Duck with pancake — very authentic! –Ho fun

Food is good, but customer service needs work. My friend and I ordered two dinner specials which included egg rolls as a side. Our food came, but our egg rolls weren’t in the bag. Our receipt says we paid for egg rolls. So we call the lady in charge at the restaurant to see if they can bring us the egg rolls we ordered. She kept saying she put them in our bag because it was on our receipt. She refused to send us our egg rolls even though we politely explained that we checked all of our bags and the inside of our boxes and there weren’t any. Just because something is on a receipt doesn’t mean you put them in the bag. I mean, food is good and the price is nice but take care of your customers.

As a college student, I can say that Dragon Gate is my favorite place to order in Chinese food in Durham. Cannot emphasize their fast and prompt service enough(most places take up to 40 min to deliver), but then again I have never visited the restaurant and only order take out from here. Personal favorites of mine include the egg drop soup, shrimp fried rice, ho fun noodles, and of course their bubble tea which can be a little overly sweet at times but still very satisfying for my Chinese food fix.

This is my favorite Chinese take out place in Durham. You’re not going to get high quality, authentic Chinese food from this place, but they have damn good Chinese take-out! They deliver very quickly and they are very cheap! I moved away from Durham years ago but I still think fondly about this place from time to time. Nothing beats their sesame chicken… still crave it all the time and wish there was a place near me that was as good as Dragon Gate’s!

Dragon Gate is hands down the best Chinese takeout restaurant in Durham. Here’s why: 1. They are the epitome of efficiency when placing an order. The average time I spend on the phone placing an order is less than 40 seconds(INCLUDING the time it takes them to pick up). 2. Delivery is quick! Usually less than 30 minutes. 3. Food is dependable. To all the reviewers that criticize the food: this is a takeout place. We’re not talking about Nobu here. If you’re ordering takeout for the reasons I order takeout, reasons 1 and 2 should be enough to convince you Dragon Gate is the place for you. On a awesome sidenote: one time I went down to pick up my order from the delivery man, and when I opened the door, he was playing with a squirrel. I tipped him double. Half for the speedy delivery. Half for reminding me you are never too old to play with squirrels.

I don’t understand how this place has just 2 ½ stars. For me, that usually implies that it’s a bad restaurant, which is not true. It’s Chinese takeout people, so the bar isn’t really set that high. Plus, the lunch specials are an excellent value($ 5.95). I order from them regularly and the food is satisfying and yummy. The delivery is usually prompt as well. It’s no Gourmet Kingdom or other pricier Chinese options, but it’s dependable and average Chinese takeout.

The food is cheap and delivery is quick. But when you’re ordering the lady can be really rude. She hung up on my multiple times when I was trying to ask about my order. And the food doesn’t taste fresh or good.

I’ve ordered delivery from Dragon Gate many times over the past two years as a student at a nearby university. Overall, I was satisfied — the prices are low and my food was almost always delivered within half an hour. In terms of food, it’s your typical American-Chinese food, but the portion sizes were good for how cheap most items are and tastes were generally decent. I did order a dish with scallops once, where after a few bites I suspected they were not fresh. When I called to place my orders, I found the service to be more efficient than polite, but never had any real complaints until yesterday. I had called to place a delivery order for lunch, and after an hour, I thought it was strange that I still had not received a call from the driver since, like I said, delivery is usually very prompt. I finally realized that my phone had been severely malfunctioning with incoming calls/texts(but still allowing me to make calls or send messages) for at least an hour. To its credit, Dragon Gate had called me and also left several texts trying to contact me. I called back as soon as I realized the problem, fully prepared to apologize and offer an explanation and to still pay for my order even though it had been 1.5 hours. The woman who answered the phone, who had also taken my order earlier, was extremely brusque and even rude, snapping at me as soon as I tried to speak. She told me the driver would be back in three minutes and hung up before I could even apologize. I realize they have a business to run and can’t afford for drivers to be waiting around or to be on the phone for long, but I was shocked and upset by how the customer service was so poor I couldn’t even have 30 seconds to apologize and explain that I was not trying to cheat them.

Acceptable option for satisfying the need for some heavy American Chinese junk food. Flavors are solid. The sanitation grade is a little lower than I’d like, but whatevs – sometimes a dash of risk really completes a meal. Atmosphere is standard blah, so don’t plan on eating in unless you’re desperate.

Cheap, yummy, plentiful and they deliver. What’s not to like? Don’t expect life changing food but it certainly does the job… and is a great alternative to pizza when one needs delivery.

This food is cheap as hell. Whenever I needed something quick and on the cheap and I was sick of the food on campus, I just called them up and got a three course meal for like 10 bucks. That’ll do you.

Figured that since it is on that it might be decent. Very wrong, the place has cheap prices, but horrible food. I normally eat just about anything, but this stuff was awful. My friend’s food looked even worse than my Sesame Chicken. Wished I’d gone to 35 Chinese instead
