I don’s usually give five star ratings… This is a special place. 10 minutes from my hometown of Chico, CA. You will feel like you are in a special secret little hideaway in history yet so close to the ever growing, modern Chico. If you are looking for a unique, historically correct small town Victorian with reasonable prices. If you want verdant spacious landscaping focusing on local and unique flora If you want clean tidy and warm If you want peaceful and quiet If you love a healthy locally sourced breakfast, oh and totally delicious If you want a pool area that surprises in its size, amenities and multiple uses by small or large groups. in fact it resembles a pool at a boutique hotel. If you want a hostess who cares about her guests and the whole B&B experience and is just so darn nice… I was in town for 5 nights and we stayed here… after I left town my wife was supposed to stay with family for another week… but the Durham House was so special she extended her stay rather than stay with family. Now…that is saying something. WARNING: I have only stayed in 10 B&B’s in my life… I love the experience of B&B’s and am just an average traveler… But Damn… I love this place !

The worst B&B experience I have ever had. Beautiful property; horrible service. A/C was about 60 degrees Fahrenheit and could not be adjusted. Clock-radio could not be turned off. Smoke-alarm went off at 12:21 a.m. for no reason. Bed was lumpy and uncomfortable. Pillows had so little down filling as to be useless. Freight trains ran all night, tooting their horns at every crossing. The full payment for two nights lodging was charged to my credit card 90-days BEFORE my scheduled stay and without my knowing they would do it. I left after one night and was not offered a refund on the second night’s payment when I contacted the inn-keeper and shared my experience.

This is a wonderful bed and breakfast! This is so much nicer than staying at a boring hotel. This place has history and detail. We found it just looking around online and decided to go up for the weekend. Our host, Cheryl was very gracious and a wonderful cook. She made the best breakfast every morning and was very accommodating to any dietary requirements. She had a full house the weekend we were there and yet the house was very quiet. We stayed in Anne’s room and all was really nicely decorated. I believe this is one of the smaller rooms, so I am sure the others are even nicer. The house is very well kept, clean and comfortable. The pool area is beautiful and we had a great balcony to that looked out to it. There was a great Kerug coffe-maker in the room, with plenty of options. Water and biscotti are also available right outside the rooms. The bed was very comfortable, a little squeaky, but very comfortable with great linens. There is plenty to do around Durham and Chico. We went to a couple farms, some wineries, a farmers market, there was a local lights parade the weekend we were there, and we had some great meals in downtown Chico. What else can I say? If you are reading this. just go. This is a great place to stay for the weekend or even longer. I am a fan!
