Ice House, or maybe it’s called«Twice the Ice», is perfect for what it is: an automated ice and filtered water dispenser which takes $ 1 and $ 5 bills plus coins. For $ 2, you can get a very large 16-lb bag of ice or if you bring your own cooler. A second option at the same price is for it to dump 20lbs of ice directly into your cooler — four extra pounds of ice and one less plastic bag for the dump. The ice cubes it spits out are all loose. They are not frozen together into a chunk of cubes which must be smashed on the ground before they can be fidgeted with so that one can grab a cupful or nestle a bunch of drinks into them. Ice house also has a filtered water dispenser like the ones you’ll find in higher-end grocery stores. 25¢ gets you one gallon, and $ 1 will fill a five-gallon jug. Bring your own jugs. For 10¢ more, there’s an option to rinse the jug first. Above prices are tax-inclusive, so no pennies in the pocket afterwards. It’s 24⁄7 with plenty of parking since it’s located right off of N Roxboro St in a parking lot between Davidson Ave and E Club Blvd. You can drive right up to it and fill up without having to schlep, a big plus for one who is filling up their trunk with five gallon vessels of water. Only frustration is that it won’t take credit or debit, and the bill acceptor can be finicky. There’s also the concern that you’ll give it a $ 5 bill and get back a pocketful of quarters. Annoying in this day and age where cash is no longer king. They lose a star because of this. No people to deal with either. You can be grumpy and the machine won’t return your attitude with a frown. This is a good find, serves a couple useful purposes, and does so for less money than your other options(expect for just using tap water).
