Our work team participated in the rescue activity this week and we had a blast. This was a surprise activity at the end of a long work week, so I had no idea what to expect. We show up and Matt explained our mission. It was based off of a real situation he experienced while in the Marines. I was expecting a simple team building activity, but instead I was thrusted into the world of problem-solving, confusion and critical thinking. We were totally engrossed in the process. During most of our hour, I had no idea how to proceed… but our team learned a lot about each other during the process — how we respond under pressure, how we handle conflict, how we deal with stress and how we celebrate each other’s small successes. I noticed myself stepping back, trying to see the bigger picture, encouraging my team, following someone else’s lead and contributing when it was helpful. After an unsuccessful Mikey rescue, Matt walked us through what we did well and what we missed. The debrief was really helpful in understanding how my teammates approach problems, and how we could work together more effectively moving forward. This activity was really helpful in getting to know our new work team, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in experiencing a very different type of thrill! What a unique way to connect! Great job Matt! What a creative way to bring people together. Thank you for making an afternoon of team building fun, exciting and thought provoking.

My friends and I were looking to do something different and fun. Intrepid’s Live Action Escape Game — Missing Asset exceeded our expectations. The storyline completely sucked us in and triggered us to work as a team. As a grad student I also appreciated how affordable the experience was. This is definitely an awesome activity perfect for enterainting out-of-town visitors and even dates!

Intrepid is a great space to work. It is consistently quiet, homey, there are great amenities, coffee and tea, a refrigerator and toaster, and good lighting. The owner is really committed to making people comfortable, creating community, and contributing to the greater good.

This is a really unique space, unlike anything else in Durham! It kind of combines a co-working space with a coffee shop; folks join for a small fee and have access to a house 24 – 7. There is a large selection of teas and coffee and folks donate based on what they use. It is also really nice as you can bring your own food(and there are toasters, a refrigerator, a microwave, etc.). It is an amazing place to study or read, usually very quiet. I recently finished my Ph.D. and I wish Intrepid was around when I was finishing my thesis. Great, cozy and comfortable atmosphere. Free wifi and pretty close to the 9th street area. Personally, I have thoroughly appreciated being able to work here at odd hours(especially since few coffee places are open past 8:30/9pm). I have also met some really interesting folks working at this space and always enjoy the conversations I have had here. Right now, I think there are plans to do some community programming; the owner seems very motivated to build a space for community members and people in the neighborhood. Highly, highly recommended(especially for university folks nearby)!

Very cool place. Excellently managed and maintained. More expansive on the inside than it looks. Large conference room with white board and tables, printer, large open work spaces, tons of books and games to play. Open 24 hours. Stocked fridges with drinks, alcohol, and snacks, and a pay what it’s worth to you model. I feel like instead of coming home to my apartment I could instead come here and feel just as at home but with way more things to do, and a much better environment to work/read/relax in. The manager is trying to build the first co-op of this kind in the Triangle area. I’m excited to watch this place grow. Intrepid Life is the kind of place community-minded people will flock to.
