NC Pride is basically a local GLBT Pride fest that gets put on every year simultaneously in four cities at the same time. Chapel Hill, Raleigh, Durham and(to a lesser extent) Greensboro all put on gay friendly events at the same time. These events involve meetings, parades, drag shows, and dancing in clubs. Even though things have definitely gotten easier for the GLBT community in the past ten years, there’s still a lot of work to be done to guarantee that everyone has equal rights, and festivals like this do a great job of spreading the message that even in a relatively small area like the Triangle there is still a sizeable community of homosexuals, who aren’t willing to rest until they have equal rights as heterosexuals. If you’re a supporter of equal rights, or if you have a GLBT family members or friends, it’s important to make it out to events like this and show that support the rights of gay people everywhere.
