Tiny and fun! I got a pair of pants here for $ 3. Love them. They’ve got some funky fun clothes, your standard casual wear, and a bit of professional stuff thrown in. I just really like that the store is small. You can cover the whole place in half an hour. So you’re not wasting your whole day shopping, but you know you’re not missing anything either. A good place to come with friends on a chill shopping day, maybe not the place to come if you need something specific and are on a tight timeframe.

I was on the hunt for PB Buttermilk’s new location after they mysteriously disappeared from underneath The Regulator book store a month or so ago [NOTE: It is possible that the disappearance was planned and I only found out mysteriously when I went for a visit and their downstairs shop was empty – cue scary music!] However, I did discover their new location, down the street from Locopops on Hillsborough Road in a rather unnoticeable spot; unless, of course, you’re attracted to old looking houses. I drove by the shop three times before discovering where/how to park. You have to pull through a tiny covered driveway, hope that no one’s coming from the other side, and park behind the building. PB Buttermilk’s has taken up shop next to(directly, and almost apart of) Recyclique, an upscaled goods and sustainable lifestyles shop, which I have yet to go into. While the two shops share the same house, with two different entrances, they don’t have identical hours, and thus Recyclique was closed on the day I visited PB Buttermilk’s new location(a Sunday). PB Buttermilk’s is a men, women(and non-gendered) contemporary and vintage clothing and accessory store. You walk through the front door and boom, there’s the shop, a small room filled with neatly organized shirts, shoes, pants, dresses, belts, T’s and a few more odds and ends. You’ll see clothes from Forever 21, Urban Outfitters, Banana Republic and other various«name brand» stores, as well as fancier, more vintage apparel. While PB Buttermilk’s is more expensive then your typical«thrift store», you are paying for quality and upkeep as well as clothing that you wouldn’t find in a typical thrift store – this is an upscale shop. Most of the tags have a discount after so many days of being in the shop(up to 20% off), plus you can snap and post a selfie for an additional 10% off your purchase. And, if you shop there five times, you can get an additional 15% off your bill; I guess what I’m getting at are there are plenty of ways to save a couple extra dollars on top of the already ‘lower then you’d pay at the original store’ prices. So, if you’re looking for a quaint shop and that feeling that you’ve found a treasure, be sure to check out their new location. I’d recommend going during the weekday or on a Sunday, the shop is small and I can’t imagine what I’d have felt like if other people were shopping when I was there. There is a standing dressing room on the floor and a bathroom both for fitting!

This place is in a good location — that may be it’s best quality. The clothes are very overpriced and the service is not great. The staff working when I went was snobby and not helpful. Their selection of upscale clothing is very limited. I suggest you shop elsewhere if you would like to purchase consignment mass produced clothing(j crew, banana republic, etc).

My son and I discovered this charming little thrift shop by accident and were surprised to find ourselves in the basement of the Regulator Bookstore. He bought a shirt, I bought I really cool 40’s looking dress. The prices were good for the most part, although some items I found to be a bit overpriced. There is enough variety to find something really different and cool, but not so much that you feel like you are digging through tables at a tag sale. I liked the selection and I love the name. I will be back :)

PB Buttermilk is a great place to shop and resell! April is helpful without being obtrusive, knowledgeable about clothes, and gives a quick turnaround and fair deal on consignment. She carries a wide variety of quality clothes, all well-priced and –maintained!

Awesome consignment shop! Good quality clothes, like-new for a fraction of the cost. Really, so much better than the mall or any brand new clothing boutique. My best buy was an authentic DVF wrap dress for $ 70, but there are plenty of great pieces for $ 20 or less! I’ve been to consignment and thrift shops all over the Triangle and the country, and PBB’s is definitely a good find for Durham. The only downfall is it offers a somewhat-small selection, but that just means you have to go back often to find new things!

This store has a great mix of everyday pieces and hidden gems, and you can walk out with an armful for a great price. The owner is quite friendly and knowledgable if you engage her! Definitely worth a trip.

Don’t be confused when you enter the blue door and discover you’re on a flight of stairs that leads to the lower level of the Regulator. PB Buttermilk’s shares that floor — so one side is event space and books, and the other side is consignment shopping! Not really as awkward as it sounds. The best thing about this store is that they have clothes for men. Yay! And they don’t shaft the men either. That side of the store is about equal to the ladies’. Unfortunately, it’s rather small, and a little limited, at this time. I browsed through the racks and saw they’ve seeded a lot of their initial stock with J Crew pieces that were from the warehouse sale earlier this year. I definitely hope this biz flourishes in time; it would be nice to get a clothing ‘fix’ right down the street!

I stumbled upon this oddly-located consignment shop when I went to The Regulator for a reading(they share the basement). They do have nice signage above the stairs next to the bookstore, so that might help them out. While waiting for the reading to start, I browsed around a little and was really impressed with the quality of the clothing they have, but the prices were kind of all over the place. For example, a gorgeous Nicole Miller dress was a steal at $ 68, but some pretty J. Crew or Banana Republic skirts and cardigans were more like $ 20 and $ 30. The entire space is small and they don’t have much, but they did make room for some men’s clothing. I saw a few pairs of shoes, some jeans, and lots of button-up shirts in plaid and chambray. The best part about their consignment set-up is that you get paid on the spot, and can choose either cash or store credit(33% or 50% of what they’ll price your clothes, respectively).
