I lived next door to this place for almost 5 years and tried it for the first time yesterday. What an awesome hole in the wall taco spot. Prices can’t be beat, the food is generous, quick, and delicious. I had barbacoa and lengua tacos. Watch out; the red sauce is super hot!

Authentic tacos at a hole-in-the-wall shop! Don’t look for a «Tacos Nacos» sign, because you won’t find it. This ‘restaurant’ is located with a convenient store, in the back. Walk up to the counter and place your order for tacos, burritos, quesadillas, pupusas, tortas or more. We went with: three pollo tacos(chicken), three asada tacos and a pollo pupusas with rice and beans. There’s no longer a «salsa» bar, so make sure you ask for cilantro and onion when prompted. They have your typical imported Mexican beers here as well as some great behind the counter hot sauces. It was tasty and relatively inexpensive. I’d rank them second to the establishments I’ve tried off Roxboro Street but still much more authentic and more delicious than their closest competitors(say Nana Taco). Definitely worth a stop for locals looking for authentic bites.

This place is really great. Off the beaten path a bit, which means it’s rarely crowded(though oft-frequented by Duke kids during the school year, it would seem). The product is dynamite, and for a great price — love their two taco special, with rice and beans, for just six bucks. Talked to one of the owners — it’s a father/son duo — and he mentioned that some weeknights they do traditional Mexican dishes. Definitely gonna check that out.

Definitely authentic and friendly. I had tacos: asada, carnitas and chorizo. The meat was very dry. Fun dive experience but I won’t return.

The person taking my order was friendly, and I liked their horchata, but I wasn’t impressed with their tacos and pupusas. I had the al pastor taco and the pollo pupusa. Both were on the bland side. The al pastor was definitely not marinated long enough, and the pollo only had flavor when there was cheese on it. My friends kept on squeezing salsa into their food because that was the only way to give it flavor. I think that the best tacos should taste good with or without an inordinate amount of salsa. I was hoping to like this place, especially since they make their own tortillas, but unfortunately I’ll be going elsewhere for my tacos.

This hole-in-the-wall is a little confusing at first because there isn’t an obvious sign on the outside of the building, and you have to walk through a little convenience store/money changing operation to get to the restaurant. The menu, written in chalk on a board, seems mostly Mexican, with some Salvadorean pupusas. The guy behind the counter was friendly. The clientele seemed to consist mostly of Unilocalers, though there were plenty of Mexican-sounding customers at the adjoining store. The other Durham tacquerias I’ve been to have been predominantly patronized by Mexican-sounding people(they do tend to have a distinctive accent). Perhaps this informs a little about the quality of the food. I got the carne asada platillo which was a little dry and flavorless but quite filling. My accompanying rice was also a little dry and crunchy. The two salsa in squeeze bottles were good, flavorful and spicy, but too bad we missed the fresh salsa on a table to the right of the order counter until after we’d finished. My wife got tacos of lengua, barbacoa, and chorizo, which were all OK but not great. The tacos are served with the usual cebolla y cilantro, with a single thickish tortilla. We had horchata to drink, which was watery and sweet. I’d place this near the bottom of the authentic tacquerias I’ve tried in Durham. It’s worth a try if you’re in the area, but nowhere near the best. For the best try any of the 3 on Roxboro Street.

I love this place. I’ve been coming here since they first opened up. The food is simple and straightforward, no fancy stuff. Just good food. I typically pick three tacos — asada, carnitas, and pescado — and try any of their agua frescas — the cantaloupe is my favorite. But I’ve tried just about all of their food and it’s all quality. Now, the service can get slow because it’s made to order and there’s usually only about 2 – 3 working in the back. But overall the people here especially the guy who runs it, Jorge, are really accommodating and nice. It’s a good experience all around.

The tacos were very uneven. The chorizo was very good, but the shrimp one had only 2 small, rather sad looking shrimp. They also forgot the rice and beans, which I only realized once I got home. I am a bilingual speaker so language was not the issue. They took somewhat long to make three tacos(and no rice and beans!) to go, and had to ask me again what I had ordered. It was early lunch and there was only one other person, so it wasn’t that it was packed and/or busy. I very much prefer any of the downtown places, but this is closer to my home, so I might give it another shot.

So much love for this little restaurant. Service is fast and friendly here, and they’ve always been willing to answer any questions we have about what’s what, since our Spanish is piss poor. haha. I almost always get the tacos, and my favorites are probably the al pastor, chorizo and carnitas. The house made hot sauces here are to die for, and the guys behind the counter even agreed to sell us some to take home, they’re seriously that tasty. The al fresco drinks are always on point too, and we definitely recommend the horchata.

Authentic Mexican tacos. Better than nana taco because it’s truly the real thing! No frills but delicious and cheap. Lots of different meat varieties. I recommend al pastor and lengua

I love the authenticity of this place. The restaurant shares the building with a convenience store; the convenience store is located at the front and the restaurant is in the back. We’ve tried the pupusas, tacos, and tortas and they were all good. The best thing about the torta was the warm, soft bread. I can tell that the tortillas were homemade which were really good as well. The workers were also very nice; we came in a little bit before closing, but he still served us and made sure we got everything we wanted. Would recommend this place.

As good as Los Comales/Guanajuato, as good as Super Taqueria, miles ahead of La Vaquita. Nacos is cheap, delicious and everything on the menu is prepared from scratch with lots of care. Their chile de arbol salsa is spicy and delicious, their salsa molcajete is usually fantastic and their Serrano/avocado salsa is straight up amazing. The lengua is delicious and crispy, their house made chorizo is wonderful and the rotating aguas frescas are all great. Add the homemade corn tortillas and the tasty pupusas to the mix and Taco Nacos becomes the most necessary taqueria between Durham and Graham

This was a great little counter service taco place. Please make sure you do your research of Spanish menu items before you order. They do not speak a lot of English so your English bases questions will not be answered very well. The food was great. I had the soft tacos and the aqua Fresca. Make sure you check in with Unilocal before you order and you get a coupon for a drink It is very easy to miss this restaurant when you’re driving. Just look for the bright yellow building and park. The restaurant is inside a convenient store. When you ordering and sit down make sure you ask for their red and green sauces in the squeeze bottles. Very very hot and so delicious.

This is some real authentic food! Stopped in here for a quick lunch. Be careful when trying to findnit, there’s no actual sign that says tacos nacos. Got two tacos, the chorizo and the AL pastor. Both had great flavor tomthem. Wouldn’t have minded if the radishes were cut a little thinner thouh. Also be forewarned that the chunkier salsp they give you is REALLY spicy. All in all definitely worth a stop. I also like that they have the flour tortilla as an option, since I like that more than corn ones.

I’m not sure when I started loving tacos but now I can’t stop. Tacos Nacos is a great place to go if you want cheap, delicious and authentic tacos. Before I begin though– don’t be thrown off by the appearance of the establishment. It’s located in a yellow shack, next to what seems like a mini convenience store(?) called Cely’s. I ordered 3 tacos at only $ 2/piece. That was enough to fill me up. The tacos only have chosen protein, onion and cilantro, but with the sauces they give you… that is all you need! My favorite taco was the chicharron(may have misspelled) and that is pork skin. I wish I had gotten 3 of those! That’s only one option on the list though, they have plenty. *Don’t forget to check in and get a free agua Fresca. Mine was pineapple flavor and it was delicious!

What an awesome little place. Tacos Nacos is a little hard to find since it is tucked back inside another business. It is at the corner of University and Old Chapel Hill Road. Don’t pass it! Great tacos, empinadas and papoosas. Variety of meats and fillings for the tacos. The staff is more than willing to help translate the Spanish menu. They also have a great selection of imported beers.

«Local Mexican, very friendly service & Unilocal specials» Positives: + Place has been significantly cleaned up since it was«Buen Sabor» a few years ago + Very friendly service. Although you order at a counter, the staff are very nice– bringing out the food to your table, checking if you want refills on drinks, etc. + Unilocal specials if you check in with app. + Pupusas. Yum. Negatives: — Not tons of seating. — Not as cheap as some other Mexican places locally. The tortas are nearly all $ 10 or above, for example, whereas most other places(e.g., Chubby’s, Vaquita) are more like $ 7. — Meat on the azada and barbacoa tacos I had was very fatty. Synopsis: Overall, a fine place. I do find it hard to think why I’d go here and not, for example, Vaquita or El Cuscatleco, which have slightly higher quality for similar or lower prices. But this place was still A-OK.

Tacos Nacos off of University Drive in Durham is definitely a dive as others mentioned and definitely easy to miss. The front part is mainly for check cashing and the food part is in the back. You order from a counter off of a chalk board menu. I recently visited and had an al pastore and asada taco along with a pork and cheese papusa. The tacos are small, served with onion, cilantro and radish. The meat is fresh and the tortillas home-made, as is the salsa. A papusa is not something I eat often but have tried them before at El Custatleco in Durham. I remember those just being ok, but the version at Tacos Nacos was very good. You can taste the fresh corn in the tortillas and the cheese and pork gave it a very nice flavor. Tacos Nacos es muy auténtico y delicioso!

I have found my killer Durham taco spot! I was completely blown away by this place, mostly because I just stopped by for cheap tacos one night not expecting anything special and was pleasantly surprised by the depth of flavors and authenticity of all the food. I’d say it’s the Durham counterpart to the well established Taqueria el Torro in South Raleigh, but it’s a very different type of restaurant with it’s own style. For me it’s now a tie between Tacos Nacos and El Cuscatleco for my favorite Latin spot in Durham. I’ll admit this place is a bit divey, a hole in the wall spot for sure, but that just makes me love it even more. The building is a convenience store up front with the restaurant in the back. First off the prices are pretty unbelievable here, you just can’t find this caliber of Latin cuisine for any cheaper in the area. The corn tortillas are hand made and unparalleled, great flavor and they hold together so much better than ones I’ve had at other places that have to double up on tortillas to keep your taco from falling apart. They also give you two sauces for your meal, a green spicy avocado sauce and a even hotter orange sauce(not sure what’s in it but they did warn it has peanuts just in case your allergic). Their al Pastor taco ranks as one of the best I’ve had anywhere. The flavor is spot on, the meat is tender, but it’s also crispy on the outside and different than any other al pastor I’ve had. I really enjoyed their chorizo and it wasn’t even greasy, don’t know how they did that but it doesn’t take away from the flavor at all. I got a Chorizo Quesadilla here for about $ 3.50 that was made with a corn tortilla(they do offer flour but… come on you gotta get the hecho a mano corn tortillas) and they actually make their Quesadillas with queso quesadilla, I’m not sure who else does that around here but you gotta try it, you won’t regret it! For me the biggest surprise was the pupusas, both the Revuelta(carnitas, cheese, onion, tomato) and the pollo were amazing. The curtido was the icing on the papusa cake! They put a liberal amount of Mexican oregano in the curtido and it ends up tasting sweet and sour with a smooth fresh earthy flavor that compliments the richness of the pupusas perfectly. The Pescado and Cameron Tacos here are the best I’ve ever had. If you enjoy these at Chubby’s Taco’s/ Guacamaya Fresh Mex and think they can’t get any better, stop by here and you will soon be hopelessly addicted. Everything I’ve had here has been amazing, and I always get excited every single time I go here because I know my expectations will always be exceeded. Do not let the low prices or location fool you. If you want some gourmet authentic Latin food, look no further… you will not be disappointed.

I was pretty uncertain if I could find this place. Why? Because I was never in that part of Durham but I was free yesterday afternoon so I decided to explore this place. After a long unsured driving, I was told that my destiny was on my left where a yellow cabinet right at the corner of university drive. The cabinet was really cool designed with some elements of Latino American signature. I loved it since it reminds me of my old time back in Ecuador The place is pretty new and clean. When you first enter, there would be a small cashier place but when you stepped into the place, a food heaven is near you(at least it was a food heaven for me) I really wanted to try gordita and huaraches since I have never tried before. So I ordered it and both were great with beef tongue! And the price was the average price so I loved it The service is really nice. If you don’t know anything about the menu, just asked! Oh, in addition, they have 6 kinds of sauces for you to choose. I tried every single one. I don’t know about you, but I think none of them is spice at all. My favorite would be the green one. Forgot to ask the name. Maybe next time, I would remember to ask!
