A really quaint place with excellent service and good food. We had a wonderful evening here

Love! Love! Love this place. So quaint and charming. We drive all the way from Sacramento just for dinner. The food is great(try the Spicy Blue Cheese – It’s to die for!), the menu is current and varied. The staff is(mostly) friendly and welcoming. At Christmas time it is like a postcard in here. You must stop me check out the Monte Vista!

Consistently excellent food and staff. We are locals and have been going to the Monte Vista for special dinners for at least 10 years and never leave disappointed(which is rare in my experience). A little expensive for frequent dinners, but a top choice when we want to celebrate.

We stopped here on the way back from Tahoe for dinner. We had a rough start because it took us a long time to get seated, but I truly think it was a fluke. Apparently they had just been hit with a rush, and at least one employee had called in sick. We loitered around the bar and tried to determine what the décor theme would be called(we went with Tiki Christmas Mountain Cabin, by the way) while we waited. Once we were seated, no complaints! The service was super friendly, the menu was interesting without being too much to process, and the food was freaking amazing. Everyone was stuffed and happy with their meals, and though it was pricey, it was totally worth it. They actually know how to cook a steak! We are headed back to Tahoe in a couple weeks and plan to stop by on the way back through the area.

My family of four ate dinner there recently and my husband ordered the seafood plate with mussels and clams, one of the clams was not open, which after reading… should not have been served, he started feeling sick from his food and barely made it back to the cabin, I phoned them the next day and let the manager know, she stated that she would call me back, but never did, we spent a lot $$ on dinner for 4 and certainly didn’t expect this. We have frequented the Monte Vista before and given good reviews, but this time, not so good.

This is just a great restaurant. The food is always good. Menu ranges from truly excellent fine dining through burgers and hot sandwiches. Sunday night people in my party had oso bucco, seafood pasta and pulled pork sandwiches and it was all excellent. Staff is warm and friendly, the setting is warm and comfortable. Don’t forget to try their excellent pies

Had dinner here last night, we had the mussels, crab cakes, lamb, seafood pasta and ribs. Klinker-brick zin. FANTASTIC dinner. The whipped butter is a guilty pleasure of mine. Honestly the food and the atmosphere was fantastic. Service was great, the chef really did an amazing job on that seafood pasta… So much so we were fighting over leftovers and debating eating there again tonight. The monte vista is a special secret spot, perfect if you want a romantical get away, or a little day trip spot. Dutch flat as a town itself is super charming. I can’t say one bad thing about either.

Stopped for dinner last night. The place was warm and welcoming. Assorted characters at the bar having a good time with friendly bar staff. One patron brought flowers to the bartender. A good locals vibe in a nice location. Family owned and operated for over 40 years. Place was packed when we arrived but we were treated as if we were the only ones. Special New York steak was cooked perfectly, the prawns to die for and the macadamia nut crusted halibut was perfectly cooked and tender. Save room for Dutch crunch raspberry peach pie served by Preston. He does a great job at presenting all the options. Ali our server and owner was truly delightful and has earned our business for the future. We look forward to going back. One thing of note. In dining it’s the little things that count. Note that all the napkins are hand made, washed and ironed by the ownership and match the one of 7 themes that the restaurant goes through each year. The details are not missed from napkins to the welcoming smiles. Ask for the table overlooking the ocean. There is no ocean but they make you feel like there is.

It’s Tuesday it busy. That is always a good sign. 1 waitress and 1 bus boy/lacky. They both are working there butts off. Some nice live music is playing. Lots of locals here. Which does not surprise me as the nearest town of Colfax is lacking for dinner places. The bar of course is busy. Now onto the food. Excellent portion sizes. Well thought out plating. Not fancy but better than home. They have weekly specials lamp chops to die for. Burger selection is 5 burgers and 3 of them are spicy. Sides are decent. I like my mashed potatoes chunking. This they are. Yes we will be back

Spenser as chef and wait staff made the evening remarkable. Food and service are very good. Worth driving from Nevada City. We had bison, steamers and sour dough breaded shrimp… ended the night with homemade Jack Daniels pie. One serving satisfied the four of us. We will go back!

Portions are generous. Quality is excellent. Service is great. Crab Cakes as Starters and the Baked Brie were 1st Rate. The 5 of us had explored ancestral roots in Dutch Flat and were famished. This is indeed as good as it gets.

We had dinner at the Monte Vista once again. Two of our party has been dining at the Monte Vista Inn since the late 1970s. Our reserved table was ready. The staff was friendly. The head server’s helper tried hard but did have a few minor slip ups with our orders, nothing serious. The menu has a good selection of foods. Our salads and entrees were tasty: a rib eye steak, a stuffed pork loin, a pork steak and an ahi steak. Everyone had desert and found them sweet and satisfying. Prices are comparable to other dinner houses; I felt them fair. We will return.

Food is great. The owner is not friendly. I have eaten here twice. Both of the above are consistent in each visit

Waited a bit to be seated and no one was in front of us, but we’re not in a hurry and the place has a comfortable feel. Salad was crazy good with spicy blue cheese. Had water today and they pretty much kept my glass full. Meal was good. Spicy chicken pasta. Mostly sausage. Would have liked more chicken. All in all I mainly enjoyed the atmosphere. I’ll be back.

Location location location! Rite of the freeway, plenty of parking, picture perfect. I feel like I’m going home when I go to the Monte Vista. Super cozy cabin feel. The bartenders are on top of things and my drinks area always perfectly strong. The food is very satisfying. The deep fried jalapenos are my fave!!!

Absolutely the BEST restaurant around! Amazing food, great bar, classy and elegant atmosphere, wonderful service. I recommend the Monte Vista to everyone for anything from birthdays, anniversaries, first dates, to random Monday night dinners:) also, the bar is great. Low prices and heavy drinks. I had a bartender named Amy. She is the BOMB! This restaurant will not disappoint.

It was the first time to have dinner here. I was here last week and brought my wife —-and 2 friends. Our orders: 1 Prime Rib, 1 steak sandwich, and 2 bbq pulled pork sandwiches. Everyone seemed happy with their choices. I had the Prime Rib, but the steak sandwich looked pretty good to me. — also I ordered wasabe fries with furakake– it was good(I’m sure it’s a Hawaiian influence– read on…) This is a nice little spot on the way to the sierras. We were there on a Thursday evening and there was no wait, but there were alomost a dozen others in there(it’s a good sign) Service was nice and it had a log cabin feel, but we also noticed Hawaiian quilts on the wall– the owners like to go to Hawaii:) The Hawaiian quilts gave it a type of Big Island/Hilo feel.

I got the Dutch Apple Pie which was a bit disappointing because it wasn’t warmed when I got it to-go. Many people raved about their pies, but I just didn’t see what all the fuss is about. The entrees are a bit on the pricier side which surprised me a lot from this hidden little restaurant. I got the«Steak sandwich» and my boyfriend got the burger. Both were alright, but not amazing. I wasn’t really a fan of the New York Steak on sourdough bread. I ended up just eating the steak without the bread, lettuce, and tomato. Despite the average food, I thought that the décor and atmosphere was beautiful. I really love how they have decorated the restaurant and there’s even live music.(We were listening to a great acoustic guitar player. If you’re in the Tahoe area I think that this is a great place to go for a romantic dinner. My boyfriend and I walked in on a Saturday night with no problem of getting a table.

The atmosphere was welcoming and quite romantic with candles on the tables and such. The burger was great and it satisfied my carnivorous self because the patty was a fat piece of mouthwatering meat. The fries were excellent with that satisfying crunch in every bite. The dutch apple pie was delicious, but it was cold. Kind of pricey, but I think it’s worth it since there are no other restaurants nearby and the environment is great!

My boyfriend and I went to the Monte Vista Inn for our anniversary dinner… and we will definitely be going back! They don’t start serving dinner until 5pm, so we went to the bar area and ordered drinks with some of the locals! Then we got the most delicious meal I have had in awhile. Calamari appetizer, potato-bacon-cheese soup, 14-oz rib eye steaks and a mocha pie for dessert! The waitresses were very friendly, kept our drinks filled and they worked together to provide excellent service. Also, the atmosphere is very comfortable with a large stone fireplace in the entry, dim lighting and a cabin styled décor.
