Well, it’s very clean and doesn’t have the«living» odors I’ve come to associate with nursing/rehab facilities which goes a long way, but not far enough. This is my family’s second experience with Bay Path and it seems to have slipped a bit. The staff, for the most part, is really very nice to the residents. The rooms are bare bones but kept clean — nearly every resident with visitors or family around has some touches to make their space more homey– soft throws, pillows, photos etc. The problem for me that knocks the stars off is the inattention on the part of the same staff to the details. 1. My parent went without a TV for four days and nights because the maintenance staff couldn’t figure out how to activate the sound on the bedside speaker. When you’re stuck in bed or sitting in a chair waiting to feel better, a TV is the only remedy to pass the time. After four days of waiting and waiting, we took the TV speaker off the wall and found the on/off switch that hadn’t been turned to ON. What??? A maintenance guy didn’t even try to turn it on in his half hour of fooling around with it before declaring, «I can’t fix this, tell the nurse» and walking away. The on/off switch ??? 2. The same parent is on a restricted diet — pretty standard, pretty obvious. Yet with every meal we saw a tray of food that was obviously NOT part of the restricted diet and no amount of questioning brought an explanation. Finally we went to the nursing staff and complained that the paper receipt from the kitchen quite clearly said«regular» rather than the required diet. Details. These are so, so obvious and so affected my parent that I now feel we need to question every single thing they feed her, every thing they tell her and probably second guess every part of her rehab — not a good feeling. Bay Path had been in the top 3 choices when looking for a bed, but next time I don’t think they’ll even be in the running for us.
