My husband and I are first time home buyers and we made an offer on a house that, prior to inspection, we considered to be reasonable. However, when Al came through the property, he really opened our eyes to the reality of the situation. We were so starry-eyed and emotionally involved in the home(ROOKIEMISTAKE) that we had failed to notice rotting wood in key support areas, faulty plumbing, and moisture and foundational issues. He explained everything to us in a polite and easy manner and was absolutely knowledgeable about every facet of that house. He literally left no stone unturned. Shortly thereafter, my husband and I walked away from the deal because we realized that getting in that house was going to cost way more than we were prepared to spend. We payed Al his fee gladly knowing that not consulting him would have cost us several thousand dollars — peanuts compared to what Al charged us for his services and well worth every penny. Also, as a side note, pay the extra for the RADON testing. You’ll feel better knowing those issues up front.
