So, out of the parks that I’ve been to in the Buffalo area so far, this has been of my favorites. It is mostly unimproved. You will find no picnic tables, bathroom or much of the way in amenities here. Actually, I take that back, I’ve seen one picnic table, under a tree at the north parking lot. There’s barely even any signage! The first time we went to go hiking here, we completely missed the parking area, which is right off of Centerline, near the bridge that crosses Hunters Creek. It has two names: The official name is Sargeant Mark Rademacher park, but most people know it as Hunters Creek park. There’s one kiosk with the WNYMBA(Western New York Mountain Biking Association) map on it, which you can also download from their website. They do most of the trail maintenance in the park. But it is also an excellent park for hiking, with a lot of varied terrain. There’s open meadows, old growth forests, abandoned farms, and riparian habitats. It’s a great place to go for fall foliage hiking, but be warned — because of the mountain biking, a lot of the trails can be rutted and very muddy. It’s also a great place for horseback riding and particularly geocaching. There’s about 45+ caches located in the park, and the times Lee and I have visited haven’t even begun to put a dent in the number. So if you like roughing it, if you like parks that are mainly for nature watching and hiking, this is the park for you.
