Malkins Functional Footwear

Please, don’t believe them when they tell you that you can return shoes if they don’t work for you. I was sold what they call a rocker bottom sandal that changed my gait when walking. Howard told me to wear it at home for a few weeks and if it didn’t fit, then bring it back. Well. that’s just not true. I wore it twice and walked on the carpet. They gave my husband an awful time when he returned it for me. They wanted a $ 20 restocking fee, and wanted to charge because they claimed the inside of the shoe showed wear. The only way they agreed to return the money was when my husband called AMEX to dispute the charge. BUYER BEWARE.
On another note, Howard ordered a pair of shoes for me that were a size too small and told me they would feel better at home. I didn’t take them, and subsequently bought the same shoe in the correct size for $over $ 50 less. Same shoe, same manufacturer, two sizes bigger.

This was my first and last visit to this shoe store. My wife went to the store because of their «exceptional» fitting techniques. If waiting literally 3 hours to be served by white coated salespeople is the way you like to be treated, this is a good start to the experience. If you make a purchase you better be happy with it because the return experience is unbelievable. I returned the shoes that didn’t fit for her. They were fortunately purchased with a major credit card. She was told that they would be taken back if she wasn’t comfortable in them. I was told that the inner soles were damaged and a $ 20 fee would be charged. They were worn twice inside our home. I was told that I was embarrassing the salesperson. They NEVER sell a shoe that doesn’t fit. The attitude of the staff was rude, abusive and stubborn. To give me even a partial refund they demanded not only their receipt but a copy of my credit card receipt. Unusual for me. 50 minutes to complete a return. This was finally settled by American Express intervening. The stores attititude is that they are superior and above reproach. Time to them is not an important commodity. If, as another writer wrote, they treat customers as family, I’m glad I’m not related.

Mostly positive feedback about this store. The Malkin family has sold specialty shoes for many years. Howard & Lance sell shoes the old fashioned way. If you have problem feet, they will spend hours finding a solution for you. You can return as many times as needed until your shoes feel like clouds. If you go to their store, go early in the day, take lunch or a snack with you. LOL.
Howard & Lance are professional in many ways, down to their wearing of white lab coats. So, I guess they don’t realize that every word and sound can be heard from the back area of the store. Customers can hear the arguing and sinus snorting. It’s a bit weird & embarrassing because they don’t seem to be aware when they come out front… Or may be it’s not a big deal to them because so many of their customers feel like family. Idk… it wouldn’t stop me from doing business with them.
