This grocery is near my apartment and I’m so happy I don’t have to go all the way to the train station for a nice local grocery with a kind staff. I shop here often because their produce is much fresher and usually cheaper than what you could find amidst the scraps at Waldbaum’s around the corner and is always well stocked.(Plus they have baby eggplants, yum!) The interior of the store is nothing flashy but is generally clean. Aisles here are quite narrow, so if a few people are shopping at the store it begins to feel crowded fast. The rest of the store has a pretty wide selection of Middle Eastern oils, spices, sauces, desserts etc. so if you’ve been looking for items like ghee nearby this is the place. Their frozen section has frozen veggies and sweets, along with microwaveables. Oh, and of course they sell things like the obligatory family-sized bags of basmati rice and Deer brand mango juice, the most delicious beverage known to man. The Super Bazaar doesn’t focus on East Asian fare but you can find most of the ingredients for, say, a Thai curry here provided you BYO fish sauce. In a price comparison between items that both the Super Bazaar and Waldbaum’s keep in stock, you can usually find a comparable house brand or something on sale at Waldbaum’s for a few cents cheaper, but I would rather shop at the Super Bazaar and support a local business, especially one that keeps fresh produce stocked and is open 24 hours.

As a result of the recent outing to the Ganesh Temple Canteen(read: ), I have been craving kulfi bars and wondering where is the nearest place where I can get them. A friend and neighbor told me of this grocery store on 75th Street and 31st Avenue, just about twenty blocks away from me and definitely a location I can quickly ride my bicycle to. Aside from fruits, vegetables and the usual grocery items, the store carries products from India as well as Mexican products. I’m just glad I know where to get mango kulfi particularly as the days get warmer. Now, my friend promised me the recipe for mango kulfi and I am looking forward to getting my hands on that. :)
