The staff was friendly but inexperienced with men. I went in for a back, and bare all Brazilian. I had this done six weeks ago in San Jose by waxing and it went much quicker and less painful. Sugaring is supposed to hurt less than waxing but it didn’t. I think it was in the method though rather than the sugar. I made a couple suggestions, recommendations from the technician in SJ to make it faster and easier on the patient. The Tech here didn’t seem to care to try it. She said, «I don’t do that for backs». I thought, skin is skin, woman or man, groin or back, why wouldn’t you secure it? She was very pleasant but didn’t seem to be concerned with limiting my pain. I will be looking for another place in GR that takes patient comfort into account Update February, 2014: Update to an earlier review. I have been sugared again, in California, since my visit and post to Studio smooth last January. The aesthetician out there did anchor skin before extracting the hair, like I had requested the tech to do at Studio smooth. On both my Manzillion and my back. The Studio Smooth tech had said she does it for women. I didn’t understand why she felt it wasn’t needed on a man. It was much more tolerable when done properly. I say, properly because I have asked a number of estheticians since last January and they have all said that is the proper approach.

Even though I now live in Ann Arbor, I still come visit Studio Smooth every time I’m back visiting Grand Rapids. Sugaring is much less painful that regular waxing, and I like the it washes off and doesn’t leave a difficult to rid of residue. The staff are friendly and make you feel very comfortable throughout your entire experience. I highly encourage any of my friends to try sugaring, and specifically studio smooth, before they try waxing anywhere else.
