I came here about two weeks ago, and grappled with the idea of leaving a review. On one hand, this place is run by one well intentioned individual who seems as though he really cares about his business. On the other hand, there is nothing that would entice me to come here again. Coming here for lunch kind of reminded me of going to my great aunt’s house for lunch on the weekends, with all of the not so nice aspects that went along with that. Plastic doily tablecloths abound. It is an atmosphere my grandmother would feel very safe and happy in, which is not necessarily a bad thing(for some). The menu is sparse. There was nothing on it that I couldn’t see myself making in a few minutes before heading out the door for work. I wanted a grilled chicken salad, but the only salad with grilled chicken on the menu was a chicken ceasar salad. I asked if I could potentially have the salad but substitute the dressing for another kind. «Well…the salad comes with ceasar dressing. Why don’t you like ceasar dressing? You might like mine better than the other kinds you’ve tried» Um… I’ve NEVER had to explain, in a restaurant situation, why I would rather something be left out of my meal. Ever. And I had no idea how defensive it would make me. I simply explained that I don’t really like it. The truth is, it has WAAAY more calories than most dressings, and kind of defeats the purpose of getting a salad, so I tend to avoid it. But I did not feel obligated to explain this to some dude who I’ve never met before and who probably would have asked more nosy questions about my eating habits. He said that the only other dressing he had was ranch. Fine. I’ll take it on the side. I also ordered a cup of the chicken vegetable soup. It came in a coffee mug(cute), but a sort of narrow coffee mug with a big spoon which was hard to eat out of(not so cute). The soup was mediocre. Then the salad came out, and apparently Mr. Nosy was not okay with my lack of enthusiasm for ceasar dressing, because again he pressed«Why don’t I bring you out a little bit of my ceasar dressing to try. You might like it more than the others you’ve had.» At this point I had to be curious. Why on earth was he so obsessed with this dressing? So I asked«Do you make it yourself?» and he said no, it comes in a bottle. So why are you taking this so personally?! He brings out a side of dressing and waits while I try it. And just like weekend lunch visits to my great aunt’s house, I faked my enthusiasm to avoid confrontation. So, no, I will not be back. Unless I’m dying for some ceasar dressing. I’m sure he’d be more than happy to hook me up.

On A Break Café(formerly Organic Roots Café) serves up light breakfast and lunch fare and is located just south of the Routes 4⁄151 intersection in Couse Corners. The atmosphere inside is relaxed and cozy with lavender painted walls, small café tables, and an order counter with a large blackboard menu on the wall. The menu offerings include breakfast sandwiches, bagels, muffins, scones, cookies, salads, soups, cold sandwiches, paninis, Green Mountain Coffee, and bottled drinks. All individual sandwiches(half & full) come with chips, macaroni salad, or potato salad(very small mouthful cups). A half sandwich and small soup is $ 5.95 plus tax. I stopped in for takeout and tried the Pulled Pork Panini($ 6.95 plus tax) with a bag of Baked Lays. The pulled pork was lean and tender smothered in a tangy BBQ sauce and pretty good, but the bread was still soft like it was not hot pressed like a panini should be, just barely toasted. Nonetheless, the sandwich tasted fine with the bag of chips. OPEN Mon-Fri: 8AM-4PM(until 3PM in the summer)
