I have shopped at Pier One Imports for many years for home décor such as candles, throw pillows, tea cups, etc. Until this particular store, I have always enjoyed Pier One. However the East Hanover store has repeatedly had rude service, especially from the manager whom I often see when I am there. he acts as if he is doing me a favor. He never smiles, nor doe she say hello when I greet him? I have spoken to friends in my area who have had the same negative experience in this particular Pier One store. In addition, some of the isles are a tight squeeze wit a cart, etc. I tend to find a better selection in the Denville Pier One as well as the many in Manhattan where I once lived and shopped often. I had recently purchased a small diffuser with a champagne scent. I asked if it was just décor, or does it truly smell pretty and I was told it does both upon buying. Once I got home and placed the sticks into the scented oil, the«pink champagne scent» dissipated after a few minutes and the scent did not return. Without scent, there is no point to the item, so I thought I’d return it. The item was new and the receipt was still fresh in my wallet… Yesterday I walked into the store at 8:40PM with my husband in order to return the infuser, and the saleswoman gave us a cruel, angry stare as if were a crime to enter the store 20 minutes prior to closing? The infuser was in perfect condition and transported it in a box of my own with padding since it did not come in one, plus I had the receipt in hand. It was still within the time frame for return(under 45 days as per receipt) The salesperson was quick to tell me I cannot return the item, and with a nasty tone. I asked why I may not return the diffuser, and she said I «needed the original box.» THEITEMDIDNOTCOMEWITHPACKAGING, NOR A BOX! I even brought her another diffuser identical to this one from the shelf, so she may see it did not come in «packaging nor a box.» She did not apologize when I bough there a fresh one also without a box. She still refused to take it back??? She argued saying it did have a scent.(Yes, if you place your nose a half inch away!), I told her that I thought she was smelling my hand looting which I just applied and had a strong scent. She argued with me??? She did not even say, «Oh, I am sorry I cannot return it…» etc. Instead she grunted the words and did not lend a smile even once. This was certainly NOT my first negative experience in this East Hanover store. But it was the LAST experience at this particular Pier One! Their staff needs to learn that takes more work to be rude than to be nice, but not in this store, apparently. I do not recommend! There are MANY other Pier One stores with wonderful staff… but not at this one!

This Pier 1 is just OK in my book. Some of the staff is helpful and friendly while others act like they’re doing you a favor to help you. The selection is pretty good — a variety of candles, dishes, artwork, rugs, home décor and seasonal merchandise. It’s tough to navigate if you have lots of bags though or a stroller; very narrow walking spaces which makes shopping sometimes difficult. All in all, a solid store for home goods, candles and anything that makes your home look pretty and smelling delicious!

This pier one has substantially better service than other ones that I have shopped at in the past. I cleaned up on after Christmas 50% off ornaments. I like the little gity items at Pier One and if you need table ware I suggest coming here.

One of the better Pier 1 Imports. Unlike many of them this one doesn’t overwhelm the shopper with a wall of potpourri scents.
