I’ve been coming here for years for treats for company events. The cake is pretty moist, and the frosting is very tasty, and they can dye it in pretty much any color you need. The bakery cookies though are my favorite. The czech butter cookies and the bakery cookies with the sprinkles melt in your mouth when you eat them. Definitely one of my favorite bakeries in CT. Pretty decently priced, as well.

This review is price and service adjusted, because their baked goods may not be amazing, but damn, they are solid and they are affordable. They have the basics and do them well. And the workers are always super nice. I cannot think of another solid, friendly, cheap bakery around(plenty that are 2 out of 3). I got a recommendation for here after getting pretty frustrated with the Franklin Avenue bakeries. Except their carrot cake. Their carrot cake is, in fact, amazing. Bonus points for having cake slices! Sometimes I just want a pick-me-up and these are so much better than cupcakes. Triple bonus points for having a selection of ready-to-go cakes for those times you flaked on buying a birthday cake(whoops). Their smallest ones are like 6 dollars and they will decorate, and they are yummy flavors like coconut and chocolate peanut butter!

Coworker brought a dozen donuts from Michael’s Bakery. I tried the traditional chocolate donut and they were just alright. Definitely better than what you get at Dunkin but not worth the calories in my opinion. However, free food at work is never a bad thing.

Love the donuts here. So good. They also have pretty good coffee. I also, get rolls from here as well. Good dinner rolls. Being from Hartford and surrounded by bakeries, I can tell you that this little place does a good job. Check it out.

hey Unilocal,3.5 but taking into account all variables i guess better than average donuts. i only had the raised cake with icing they were fine, i mean, waaaaaay better then dunkies, which isnt that hard, but am i going to traverse down there for that only reason? i mean the police station must have been moved after michaels was here, coincidence? they obviously have a bunch of bakery items as such, but i wasnt going to eat a whole cake in my car(again), so i cant tell you about them, but as Unilocalers have shared, they seem to be tasty. this Unilocal is baked

I have literally walked by this little place for over two years, and tried it for the first time today. And now I’m kicking myself for it. It may seem like your typical hole-in-the-wall family business-it certainly looks that way. But don’t let its appearance fool you. This is, hands-down, the best bakery I have gone to so far. I walked in just around 4:15PM. The place stays open ’til 6, but I hesitated, thinking the workers would probably be on the grumpy side and ready to go home. I certainly wouldn’t blame them. However, the lone woman working the counter was very pleasant when I walked in. She asked me if I needed a minute to decided-and I did. All of the stuff looked delicious, but they didn’t have mille-feuilles, the one pastry I was craving. No biggie though. I ended up choosing two chocolate macaroons, and a pistachio muffin. Holy…cow. Best macaroons EVER. Rich, decadent, yet not overly sweet. The pistachio muffin was also wonderful: it had a full flavor without any of that sugary aftertaste you often get with grocery store pastries. It all came down to less than three dollars, too. I also saw they have hot chocolate as well; didn’t get any this time around but next time I will be sure to. This place is a true gem!

This little gem is just a short hop and skip from downtown Hartford. While there is parking in front of the shop I ended up accidentally passing the shop and finding parking at the nearby grocery store. Suffice to say, parking is not really an issue for this bakery. The shop itself is very low key with simple décor and maybe 2 or 3 small tables. I came on a Saturday mid-morning. A few customers came and went while I drooled over the variety of baked goods, donuts, and breads they had displayed. I opted for the Boston Cream Doughnut since it’s my favorite kind. I also got a cherry strudel flaky pastry for later(another one of my favorites). The doughnut itself was light and fluffy. The cream was rich and smooth. Not too terribly sweet or oily. It really was a delight to eat. The pastry was a little hard on the edges and flaked a lot. The cherry filling was just average and a little too sweet for my liking. There were two servers behind the counter and both greeted me at the door. The younger server was very patient with my indecision. She gave me a choice to have my treats together or in separate bags. Plus she also told me not to worry about the 1 cent on my $ 3.01 total. So I say the customer service was quite good. Definitely a great small bakery.

Not sure why there aren’t more reviews here, this place has been around forever. I literally have never had a better yeast donut in my life. They have this slight crisp from the frying of the donuts, but not greasy at all, light and airy. When you bite down it’s like chewing a fluffy slightly crisp on the outside cloud. And the filling for the Boston Crème? AMAZING. What i love bout these donuts is that they aren’t all sugar. There are other flavors there, you can taste the yeast in the dough and the«crème» in the cream. Not too overpowering. Very rich, but not too sweet. I’ve always had excellent service until I went this morning(I was the first customer at 6:45) and an older lady helped me, and she didn’t seem very pleased about it(I don’t really blame her though, I guess, I bet she would rather be sleeping). The young workers there are super helpful, unlike many places with young people these days, who could care less about their customers. I got a dozen for my partner to take to work, but she only left the house with 7: D

«Hey, you want a donut?» «Where are they from?» «Michael’s. Best place around». And, that’s all it took for me to fall in love with Michael’s Bakery. Just one Boston Cream from an unknown man. Light donut outside, and some of the best cream filling I’ve ever had. Soon I hope to try more of their offerings, but that one donut was so delicious that I had to write a review.
