3.5 stars. Extra bump for the friendliness and quick service. The hot pots here are rather… flavorless. Not that they don’t taste like anything, but rather that the broths used aren’t complex at all and just have one sort of salty/sweet taste. The«spicy» options are not spicy in the slightest-you should probably go for maximum spiciness if you want to feel anything. We tried the Taiwanese hot pot and the seafood hotpot. I liked the former better because the broth had more of a kick. I thought the contents of the hot pot were rather random and I wish that there had been more protein like fish. We also tried a rice dish with Taiwanese sausages and little bits of pork. It was aite but rather underwhelming. I wish this place were better but unfortunately looks like the East Lansing hot pot scene still needs a lot of work!

I have always been a fan of Taiwanese individual hot pot in the past. I had fell in love with boiling pot which is really similar to boiling pots. I think boiling pots probably got this business idea from boiling points that are located in California. I would say if it is located in California, i would probably give this place only three stars, but this is considered good quality hot pot esp in Michigan. The portion is big enough for one person. there are different options of hot pot, the one i picked is the House Special. the soup base is more toward Chinese flavor rather than Taiwanese hot pot. It is taste more like Szechuan husband ordered lamb pot which was not that flavorful. The pots does have a lot of good ingredients. Ordered Taiwanese fried chicken, however, it does not taste like the authentic Taiwanese chicken i had in Taiwan. It taste more like Japanese fried chicken. It is seasoned well but just not authentic Taiwanese fried chicken Boba tea: pretty nasty… they used powder milk tea so didn’t taste the freshness of the tea and the boba is kinda hard and not chewy. i would not order it again Shave ice: this is probably the best item that we ordered and most authentic Taiwanese items out of all. I would give this shave for five stars if i am only rating it Overall, it is pretty good considering it is located in Michigan and the only good Taiwanese food we have tried in Michigan.

Excellent hotpot. It comes boiling hot, stays hot, and the flavors are marvelous. The only recommendation I would make is if you’re going to get the hotpot, then after it’s been boiling for 5010 minutes ask for wait staff to shut the flame, so that flavours can gel together and yu can eat at peace without burning your tongue. Will be back for more.

The milk tea taste bad. Waitress’s attitude is also bad, even give us the wrong food. Won’t come again!

Just came here tonight. The food was good, but the restaurant was cold. Everyone in there was wearing their coats while they ate, so you’re getting the real Taiwan winter experience. Would be 4 stars, but the cold got to us. The food was good. We ordered 3 hot pots. We got one medium spicy and it was a little too hot for us. The seafood hot pot was my fav because the flavor was great! We also got green tea shaved ice. It wasn’t as great as I thought it would be. Good to try once, but I’m prob never going to order it again. Service was good. Pretty attentive.

As a Taiwanese, it is nice to know that there is a Taiwanese style small hot pot in East Lansing. I would not say it is 100% authentic, but it is good enough. I have been there a couple of times. In my opinion, the soup base tends to be a little bit greasy and salty, but I was told they are improving the soup base and it seems to be improved over time. The popcorn chicken is pretty good though. I am not a fan of sweets, so I cannot comment on the sweets, but they sure do look pretty good. Same as other reviews, they are under-staffed. Busy staffs tend to make unnecessary mistakes and have bad mood. Anyway, overall, I would come again.

I’m from Taiwan. The small hot pot is a good idea, but it’s not authentic at all. The soup has no flavor and the meat quality is low with a lot of fat which grossed me out. I brought my friends there. The service was so bad. They gave us the CARD and bill of other customers, when we called on the waitress, she just rolled her eyes and took it back without apologies. Maybe it was an accident, but it made me feel they were careless. I don’t recommend this place.

Happiness comes in many forms. Stay with me for a second, and imagine a bouncingly-excited boy patiently awaiting his food future. Steam rolling up out its bowl, and floating its way up high into your nasal cavity — «ahhhh“its scent so sweet. Well, for me, happiness comes in the form of great food — which Boiling Pots has high in supply! When I heard that there was«authentic» Taiwanese beef noodle soup being served in the greater East Lansing area, I grabbed my wallet, made sure my stomach was empty, hopped in my car, and it was«pedal to the metal»! After nearly running over grandma crossing the street, I had arrived. Now, I will agree with others that the staff could be a little nicer, BUT I’m not there to make a friend, I am there to mash soupy noodle goodness in my face — undisturbed, unattended. Bottom Line: the beef noodle soup was superb. The bubble tea was great(not enough bubbles, but thats ok… I could afford to not have the extra calories). I will come back many more times during my stay in East Lansing. I hope to deviate from the Taiwanese beef noodle soup and order something else on the menu, but I doubt that will happen. Its that good! Come here.

I ordered the Taiwanese traditional hot pot and pretty much devoured the entire thing. I definitely will try the Zha Jiang noodles and shaved ice next time! Service was pretty paltry. There were literally only 2 other tables when we were there, and we still had to wave our arms to get anyone’s attention.

Boiling Pots is still getting off the ground, but has some dishes that help it stand out in EL. — Service: This is my biggest gripe; the restaurant is often understaffed on busy evenings and you often have to flag people down to get their attention. — Food: I’ve been here 4+ times and tried most of the hot pot on the menu. All are delicious and the portion sizes are generous! Personal favorite is the Taiwanese Traditional hot pot. The eZha Jiang noodles are easy to miss, but wonderfully flavorful as well — my Taiwanese grandmother deemed them close to authentic(and she’s hard to please)! I echo some other reviewers in the shaved ice department as well — you won’t get Taiwanese shaved ice like this anywhere in the greater Lansing area(and probably most of the state). This is nothing like coarse, soaked-with-syrup Italian ice: the ice is whisper-light and melds into the toppings(pick 3 of your choice!) deliciously. The restaurant itself is clean and décor clearly from IKEA, but well maintained :)

So happy to have discovered this gem!!! Authentic Taiwanese food for reasonable prices! The bf and i came here and tried: –Taiwanese popcorn chicken($ 4.95): this was such a generously sized appetizer! So good. you must get it! –spicy hot pot($ 10.95): comes w/clear glass noodles, some vegetables, diff kinds of meat, and a side of white rice. The broth was spectacular, and the medium spice provided a good amount of heat –fried pork chop w/rice($ 10.95): I’m not a hot pot fan, so I opted for this rice dish. So happy they have rice options here! And this was really good and came in a huge portion. Love that they include some egg and meat/sauce with the rice –mango fruit tea and strawberry fruit tea($ 2.95 each I think): I prefer the strawberry but appreciate how there’s too much syrup that the tea taste is overpowered I honestly can’t think of any negatives of the entire experience. The food was delicious, service was friendly, ventilation was good(we didn’t stink after!), parking was ample… And they accept credit card!!!(A big plus for an authentic Asian place haha.) Don’t let the name deter you if you’re not a hot pot person, as there are rice and noodle dishes, as well as boba and shaved ice choices!

The shaved ice is a MUST! If nothing else makes sense in life, this will. The shavings are perfectly layered, highlighting just enough sweetness to keep you wanting more. OMG — it’s been less than 12 hours since I had a bowl and I already want more. Flavors include the ‘original ice’, mango, strawberry, green tea and taro. The selection of toppings are great and you can choose up to 3. Several varieties of sweet beans, jellies, tapioca(boboa) and even fresh strawberries. The place is very clean but has a strange smell. I think it’s from the gas that they use for hotpot but couldn’t tell. It’s not a bad smell, just something noticeable. The bathrooms are also spotless. I’ll definitely be back to try other items on the menu.

I found Boiling Pots while searching for shaved ice. I bookmarked it and luckily, my nephew was moving to East Lansing to attend MSU, this gave me an opportunity to stop by and give it a try… well, we all did :) The establishment has been open only for about 4 months… Their menu is simple… bubble tea/shaved ice; hot pots or other dishes. The place is open and spacious. The hot pots are individual servings… We all went with our own hotpot along with Taiwan popcorn chicken and dumplings. I went with Japanese Miso hot pot, others went with spicy ribeye, Spicy Taiwan and lamb. The pop corn chicken was great… crispy and crunchy. The dumpling was pan fried and came with dipping sauce… I wasn’t sure if this was home made or not, but it was still good. Our hot pots came out… the broth is the key here and my broth was excellent. I would definitely order this again… the soup is kept hot by a small flame below the small wok… so be careful not to burn your mouth/tongue… They also provide you with sweet sauce and hot chili sauce… I took both and made an awesome dipping sauce… I took the meat in my hotpot and dipped into the sauce… the broth is not light brown… one would think that with the dish name being Japanese Miso, it’d be miso color, but it’s not… did it have miso flavor? yes it did. If you get it spicy, it looks like they pour some chili oil int here to give that spice level(I can be wrong though). I hope they do well… will be back to try the shaved ice on next visit to MSU area.

This place is definitely my favorite one !They have many kinds of individual pot, noodles and rice bowl. Suggest the spicy beef pot and pork feet rice and beef noodles. And it’s not expensive at all. Try green tea milk tea and mango shave ice if u just want some place to sit down and enjoy the afternoon

I would rate this 3.5 stars. Given the location in East Lansing, rounding this up to 4 stars. The restaurant is not showing up on Google map yet, for those that need help finding the place, it’s at the corner of Park Lake and Grand River, next to the mattress store. Boiling Pot is clean, décor is pleasant. My friend and I went there for lunch on a weekday at noon, the restaurant was empty. They have 3 servers in the dinning room, all were very friendly and helpful. We had the Taiwanese pot and the lamp pot. Both were piping hot and boiling right when the fire is lighted. The Taiwanese pot supposed to be spicy, but I find it lacks of any heat. However, my friend who does not have any spice tolerant, thinks both pots are spicy. The flavor is good for both pots. It would be better if they separate the meat before putting in the pot. They are stuck together in a big lump. Not a big deal since they were sliced, so I just pulled them apart. After finishing the entrees, including the broth(the best part of any hotpot type of dishes), we were stuff. But we can’t resist ordering the snow ice(they call it snow fluff on the menu). We got the taro snow ice with fresh strawberries, fresh mangoes and red beans. The ice is nice and fluffy. But it’s the smallest snow ice I’ve ever seen(I’m used to a giant quart size pile in a bowl). It was the first time my friend had snow ice and she really enjoy it. Asian restaurant that doesn’t serve General Tso chicken is slim picking in the area. I’ll be back at Boiling Pot and try other pots they have.

This place is worth to check out! The food is delicious, the presentation of the food is awesome, and the service is great! The only suggestion I would have is that they try to find a new way to heat up the hot pot. This is because the smell of the gas is very strong and lingers throughout the meal. Otherwise, it’s a great place to go with a small group of friends! I would also recommend their snow fluff and bubble tea! Both taste fresh and made with real fruits instead of with artificial powder! I’ll definitely be coming back to try the other variety of hot pots that they offer!

Great food! I had the spicy beef and it had great flavor with lots of different ingredients in it. The service is very welcoming and attentive. Not only do they have hot pots but they different variety of traditional Chinese appetizers. Not to mention their taro shaved ice was amazing! My friend at the time got their golden milk tea with bubbles and I had a sip of it and it was just right! Will be visiting again soon!
