Review for the driving range only. I go here on Sunday’s to use the driving range, and it’s generally busy but not overcrowded. The mats and balls are really beat, could use a serious upgrade, but the prices are good. They have two sizes, 40 balls for $ 5 and 60 balls for $ 7, which is pretty reasonable for the area. And, they take credit cards, including Amex, which I found convenient. Kind of annoying this place is across the road from the golf courses, have to drive back and forth to get to the range. The range is wide open, which is about the only good thing about it; very long and wide. Annoyingly, the target greens are super small, and the plastic tees are all way to short, like one inch high, good for old wooden clubs lol. I still come here a few times a month, but this place is in need of serious upgrading. They generally do have enough stalls to accommodate all of the people there, and you do see a lot of planes flying overhead, which is cool. Also, on weekends, unless you can show proof of nassau county residency, they will charge you $ 10 to drive into the park and use the range, courses, or other facilities. The range is pretty much mats on concrete, making it super hot and sticky during the summer.

This place lacks a lot of basic services. After walking 18 holes i go to use the facilities, which i can only describe as just merely tolerable. Searching for something to slake my thirst, i notice that there are soda machines, but they only take cash. Really? It’s 2013. They told me there are no ATMs and they can’t give me a cash advance on my credit card. I then try the formal bar & restaurant but they won’t let me in because of a private event. I’ve played the red and white courses and found them to be uninteresting. There’s a $ 10 surcharge for parking if you are not a county resident. Too many inconveniences make it not worth the hassle.

With a little help from Golfnow, I was able to secure a Saturday tee time at Eisenhower Park Golf Course, home of the 1928PGA Championship(Red Course). This central Long Island, massive piece of real estate stretching from from Stewart Ave, Merrick Ave contains three, par 72 golf courses. That’s just two courses short of the Behemoth Bethpage and 20 minutes closer for us Queens golfers. From tee to green there are a few fairway bunkers that longer hitters can challenge, which is a nice option for the guys that can nuke it, like me. If you are playing for a first time and are playing with a person who knows the course, ask questions as my 78 could have been 84. There are well-placed traps that protect elevated greens, butt the surrounding rough is manageable to get up and down in. Mishit tee shots are very lightly penalized as you can seemingly take a shot at every green, if you miss on the correct side of the fairway. Again, rely on a person who knows. The greens were air-ated, but a necessary evil none the less protecting well bunker-ed but not deep greenside protectors. On the day I played there were diabolical pin placements, so be sure to not flag hunt, as there are many sucker positions set for you to go for and pay a stiff penalty for. 18 hole regulation length course, designed in 1951 by Robert Trent Jones. ~72 par | 6,032 yards | 112 slope ~68.7 rating
