Who knew of the little treasures found in down town east point. I know that the city is on the rise, I appteciate that they have things going on for the fam, a little nightt life with the local bars and some good down south food for good measure!

Downtown East Point is a large part of the reason I chose to buy my first home on the south side of Atlanta. My brother bought his home in East Point several years before I began looking, so I had ample opportunity to try out the local fare while visiting him. During that time and since I bought my home down the street in College Park, I have tried most of the restaurants, visited the yearly fairs and festivals, and walked the streets. Oz Pizza, The EP Corner Tavern, and Thumbs Up Diner are our favorites. They’re all within short walking distance of the East Point Marta station, which is great for all of you ITP folks who want to try something new. Come out during the 4th of July and in Late September /Early October for their festivals. East Point usually brings out the fair with all its rides and cotton candy. The only reason I gave four instead of five stars is the number of times I’ve been hit up by bums. One time, I was asked for money three times in the short walk to Thumbs Up.

I’m bouncing between A-OK and being a fan. There is a mountain of potential here, but it’s masquerading behind empty store fronts. The clusters of great are fantastic. Oz Pizza and its courtyard, Corner Tavern and its skinny stairs and updoor deck, the hardware store a few blocks over, etc. Events like the Possums show, the Taste of East Point, and outdoor movies definitely give the downtown a good community feel. So my A-OK feeling is more a reflection of the current economy. I haven’t felt«unsafe» downtown or walking to downtown. I also haven’t tried many of the restaurants, either. Street parking is plentiful and well-lit.

I love my little downtown East Point! It’s getting better every year and the choices are getting excellent in some categories. Parking is never a problem although there is a little trash issue and some vandalism as well but that’s just what you have to accept in an up and coming area.

Downtown East Point is filled with some really great diners, cafes and restaurants. Oz Pizza, Matilda Bean Burrito, Q’s Soul Food, Thumbs Up Diner and Silk Smoothie Café can’t keep the lunch crowds away and parking is near impossible at times. Green Apple bar, East Point Deli, Taco Pete, Waffle House, Ardens Garden and East Point Corner Tavern are also in the area. In addition to good food, there are specialty shops, banking, florists and other services. Downtown East Point is truly a treat and perfect for East Point and College Park residents not wanting to travel into town for a decent meal out. The East Point Marta station is across the street from all the shops on Main Street. This area is also accessible via I-85, I-75 or I-20.You’ll feel like your in a small quaint town but still in the big city.
