Manchester Hardware is in the center of Easthampton’s small downtown. Easthampton is a semi-​rural community that neighbors college town Northampton and shares some of Noho’s artiness. Most of the businesses are independent. While not all goods and services are available to the pedestrian walking the town’s center, many everyday necessities are.
The staff at Manchester is friendly, helpful and informed. Anything you need for most home improvements can be had here, as well as basic storage and cleaning supplies. I buy two of my favorites here: Barkeeper’s Friend which rescues my stainless steel cookware and 20 Mule Team Borax which I add to every wash load. As basic as these things are, in a chemically dependent world, classics like these are difficult to find.
The business also includes a rental company. i recently rented a nine horsepower rototiller which they delivered and picked up. A machine that big does not fit into any vehicle smaller than a mini-​van with folded down seats! Sure, there is an anti-​tilling caution in home gardening today but how else does one break through clay that would better serve a kiln than a family looking for homegrown tomatoes.
