The bar Lafayette has reasonably priced drinks and a really easy going atmosphere. It looks like there are a lot of regulars and that’s always a good sign. My fiancé and I went to this bar as part of a zombie pub crawl and the bar tender handled the crowds like a champ.

I had a great time here. Super interesting décor. Cheap, and open, pool table. Incredibly inexpensive drinks. The owner was very friendly. Best of all, the background music was amazing – tons of rare 60s soul, Philly sound and Motown. I hear they have live jazz shows here on Saturday nights. Looking forward to my next visit.

I’ve been to Lafayette a few times now, and it’s a dive bar at it’s very best. They mix up the entertainment, so depending on the night you visit it may be hit or miss depending on your taste, sometimes we’ve had a blast others we’ve left quickly based on the music playing on a given evening. They are best known for their jazz shows that can draw a crowd. Drinks are very reasonably priced and they even have Genesee Cream Ale, which is the local verification that this dive bar is the«real deal.» Unlike other dives, they also have an impressive list of microbrews. The venue is large with plenty of bar area and space for entertainment and dancing. This is a venue where you can cast off judgements and just have an enjoyable time.

Fun place. Full spectrum of locals represented in the patrons here. It’s smoky, not for everyone. Music is great, I’ve only ever seen jazz here. Drinks are affordable. Service is great. I imagine that the bar is polarizing — you either love it or don’t like it. I categorize myself in the former.

I’ve come to know The Hotel Lafayette Bar as an well-worn venue for jazz on the first and third Saturday of every month. Most of the musicians travel from Gotham to play for the laid-back, receptive crowd. For a show without a cover charge, this is one of the best music scenes to be had, since it’s completely unique. Take some time to get to know the regulars and soon you’ll be one as well. It’s a true American dive. Walk north on 4th past the doors to the Hotel lobby and make a right through the double grey doors just past the old Coffee shop sign.

With it’s carpeted walls, plastering of vintage beer & cigarette adds, and mixed crowd, I would agree that the Lafayette Bar is a true dive. We were also here for a jazz night, and are so pleased to have stumbled upon this place! no cover charge and great music. drink prices weren’t bad — $ 9.50 for a glass of wine and a brandy&diet. i did chuckle, however, when I asked what they had for white wine and the response was«white zinfandel». it is cash only, though there’s a bank/atm across the street. my boyfriend described it perfectly — «no pretenses»
