I ordered take out from this restaurant for the first time last night. The person who was making my food made a mistake on the order and immediately corrected it by making up a new batch. They were kind and seemed to be more heartbroken over the mistake than I was. Over-all the food we received was great, much better than the other middle-eastern restaurants surrounding it. I pass this restaurant almost twice a week and was a little afraid to try it due to the way it looks. The restaurant is VERY clean but has a very«cheap» set-up. Don’t let the looks fool you, the food is great. On another note the garlic spread and hummus are fantastic as well.

Food is still decent, however, the place is dirty. I have not heard many good things about what goes on behind the counter. Dropping two stars. Clean the place up.

I’m so happy a small place moved into this location. It’s convenient and from the reviews, seems to be doing really well. We ordered carry out on Saturday evening during our mini snow storm. I don’t live too far from this location and we figured we’d give it a try. We ordered 3 different dinners– two chicken shawarma dinners and one shish kafta dinner. All three dinners had rice, each of us did not care if we had soup or salad with our entrée, and we preferred they just kept the soup or salad. I get there to pick it up the order and realize the order is very cheap for the amount of food we ordered– she repeats the order and hands it back to me, and it’s all sandwiches’(which she didn’t tell me while repeating the order numerous times) I then told her what our order should’ve been, all three were for dinner entrees. Another girl and owner quickly came over and got it fixed within minutes. They gave us all the wrong order they made and also cooked the three entrees fresh and fast for us to take. They were very friendly, apologizing for the inconvenience and assured this doesn’t happen all the time, the girl at the register just seemed to be confused when I ordered. Even though it was kind of annoying waiting for the order to be made again, I would still order more food from here. The prices are great and the food was really good too.

Loved it. Quite a selection of vegetarian options. The lunch deals are great. The Fries are really awesome. Staff was friendly and helpful. Will definitely be getting our fill of shawarmas here. Garlic sauce was on point. I cannot say anything negative about this place.

Been here twice and the food tastes amazing. Meat shawarma sandwich is on point. Last visit was Sunday around 1 o’clock and there was a girl cashier who could’ve cracked a smile and a one man show cooking the orders that kept coming in. Dude rocked it out though… If anyone has ever line cooked before then you must know how frustrating it can be to not have any extra helping hands. So I salute Shawarma Express for being so damn tasty. 4 stars because the place could use some cleaning and upkeep, but there’s hardly anything as good in the area besides Sahara on Harper.

First, let’s give this place a deep cleaning! No more spot cleaning… the whole place top to bottom. We stayed to eat our food and the greasy finger prints, dried pop stains and sticky table tops… icky! Next, it was eh food. I personally won’t be back. Flavors were very mild… mixed meat schwarma was dry… falafel was burnt… fries. .hardly warm and I ate them right there… garlic sauce lacks garlic… definitely wasnt wowed. Finally. .please dont lick your fingers if you are serving/boxing up food. Pretty big health issue along with hair not tied back.

First time eating here. We read the other reviews, and we totally agree! This place has some great tasting food. I had the shawarma combo, and the serving size was excellent for the price. My husband had the chicken shawarma. Both entrees were fresh, well spiced, and delicious. The salads are huge, and very tasty. We ordered late in the evening but the service and food was great. We’ll be back for sure.

My brother and I had lunch at this place a few days ago and it was not good. They are very far from what we expect out of middle eastern food but that’s because we are middle eastern and know what to expect.

Hey all: I’ve been here a few times. Pretty good stuff! The«meat» schwarma is my «go to» meal. The lunch special is the best deal. You get your choice of meat(beef or chicken), rice or fries, and salad. I am a big eater, but it is a task to eat the lunch special. Frequently, I will only eat half of it for lunch and then eat the rest for snacks or dinner. Sometimes I get the fries, and you will get a TON of them. Salads are pretty good, especially the fatoosh. Service is usually pretty good. Only negatives is the parking and it is a bit run down. HOWEVER, if you want fresh food fast & cheap & tasty, this is the place to be. I recommend it.

Just tried this for the first time last week. Awesome service, great food and fast! Had the chicken shawarma sandwich and rice with garlic sauce(as a dip) with pita bread or chips… ahhhhmazing. Been thinking about this place all week and about to go back for more now!

The staff was upbeat, the timing was good, the portions very generous. The only complaint was the horrid parking lot.

We had a really good experience here. We ordered a shawarma sandwich and a shish kabob dinner. They were busy, we took the last table and waited for our food. Considering the six orders ahead of us it came in a reasonable amount of time. My sandwich was nice and juicy. The beef was full of flavor and I really enjoyed it. The kabob was steak, mmm, served over rice with a nice serving of hummus and a side salad. The rice was cooked just right, not overcooked. The salad dressing was homemade and delicious. It’s difficult to mess up hummus, for me I like it the consistency of pudding and it was on the runny side but that’s me. It was still very good. The staff asked if we liked our food, that was nice. They explained that all the meat is cooked to order.(That would explain a previous review of long wait). It appears that business is picking up so that’s probably a good idea to order ahead. The menu is basis, straightforward Lebanese food. They even have kibbee which I will order on my next visit. It’s good to see an ethnic restaurant open and bring variety to the area. Definitely a solid close-by carryout but not a replacement for a sit down restaurant with lentil soup and hot bread.

I’m like the guys in the Snickers commercials… a bit of biach when I’m hungry. Driving home I needed to get something to each but not from the usual fast food type places… Shawarma Express presented a healthy alternative sandwich to the usual junk food… The building is well lighted from the inside and appears to be clean. It’s your typical order station and then sit and wait place. As I have not been there before I let a woman behind me go ahead because I wanted to study the menu… maybe she didn’t know how to read or was just being discourteous because she began to ask 1,001 questions.(no lady we do not all live in your world) so I had to wait… my fault for being nice. the cashiers fault for not asking if I knew what I wanted and get my order in and me out so they can meet the Express portion of my expectations. I placed my order for two sandwiches only. Shish Kafta and Meat Shawarma. I wanted the Shish Tawook but I was told it would take awhile so I changed my order. My wait was about 10 – 12 minutes. Not really express. when those who placed their orders after mine came and went I asked if mine was about ready… They said I have to wait… I really didn’t want to get into it with them because I thought what’s the point… I was told afterwards that the Kafta takes longer as it’s cooked on Charcoal. Ok but I didn’t get the Tawook because I didn’t want to wait so why would I want to wait for the Kafta… Just a bad communication on the young girl taking orders… I think she was new and not very sure of everything yet. As an apology for my wait I was given a free hummus from I think the owner… I got home and the Meat Shawarma was excellent and the added garlic and pita bread they gave me with the hummus was just what the meal needed. I’ll go back, but they need to work on the flow of taking orders and educating their clientele. If they continue to strive for customer satisfaction they will succeed. I’m glad for the extra effort and after eating I feel like myself again not that Snickers Biatch. 3.5 stars.

Hmmm, middle eastern fast food … what a concept, eh? Now I’ll be the first to admit I’m not up on my oush’s, my ouli’s, my ook’s or my noug’s, but I know a dang good sammich when I have one, ;). This place sprang up outta’ nowhere, I drive by this intersection(10& Gratiot) daily … one day it’s an empty building, next day sign’s up & they’re open for business. Interesting menu featuring middle eastern favorites as well as a few local fav’s like fish & chips and a deluxe hamburger for those of you who just can’t wrap your heads around expanding your horizons or trying something new. I had a meat shawarma lunch combo which comes with rice or fries(and maybe hoummus/salad, not sure) and a falafel sandwich … both were professionally done, delicious & outstanding! The rest of the menu is inviting with sides, salads, entrees, combination platters, party trays, seafood and vegetarian foods. I gave these guys three stars not because I wasn’t satisfied with the food or the customer service(which was genuine and sincere), but because I’m gonna’ revisit this down the road & I wanted to leave them some room to grow/improve upon my initial review. Seemed like it might be their first rodeo too, so don’t want to be too rough on ‘em but don’t want to patronize ‘em either. Parking is a little sparse at this location, but there is a municipal parking lot just behind and to the south of the building. Welcome to the neighborhood, :).
