The location is the prime reason I would come back to Smugglers Villa. You just can’t beat the view of the sunset from the back decks, big firepit right on the beach, and pool/hot tub with a stunning ocean view. We didn’t even leave the resort in the evenings, just relaxed and enjoyed the amazing scenery and relaxation. The only downside to the location is the fact that it is right across from an airstrip– so you get to see a lot of little planes landing and taking off while you are sitting on that back deck. Well, it wasn’t really a downside for us since the friends we were with know a ton about small planes so we enjoyed the coming and going. And, you couldn’t hear the noise from inside the condo. The condo itself was nice, adequate, nothing fancy. It was clean and comfortable and the kitchen was reasonably well-stocked with dishes and cooking utensils. Mike at the front desk and Bo from the adventure outfitters were helpful and ready to make sure we had a great time. Great for families!

I took a framily mini vacation over 9÷13−9÷15 and had a wonderful time. Smugglers Villa Resort was a very well loved little townhome with gorgeous views and beach access. It reminded me of the little beach rentals you might find at Ocean Shores. Nothing bright, shiny and new but definitely tried and true. They used postal mail to send our reservation confirmation and a map of the island with activities. I thought it was a sweet touch and fun to get since most all my mail is junk and bills. It was also nice to have the map since in many spots on Orcas there’s no using your phone to Google directions or even make a phone call. Check in was a piece of cake and it was fun to explore the office with all their fish and books. Check out was even easier… turn everything off leave the keys on the table & close the door on your way out. We used the kitchen to prepare our dinner which we grilled on the outdoor grill on the deck, bake a pie & make breakfast. There wasn’t anything we needed that they didn’t have. We were concerned since we were next to the outdoor playground and there were screaming children running around having a fabulous time but inside our unit we couldn’t hear the little minions through the walls. In the evenings it was nice and quiet, we had the hot tub to ourselves 2 nights in a row & the pool was empty, the 3rd night we went out on the town. There was only one other couple at the fire pit the first night, the other nights we didn’t stop by. People have mentioned the airport but to be honest I didn’t notice it much since it’s next to you and not above you, plus there wasn’t a lot of activity going on over there. All in all we had a good time & would definitely stay there again. Pros: Location, amenities, and affordable. The price you were quoted was the one you got with no hidden fees. When researching rentals I found a lot of them had cleaning fees or even worse required you to spend the last day of your vacation cleaning! SVR had none of that, it was all included. Close to activities, kayaking & whale watching tours onsite! Cons: The beds were horribly uncomfortable in our unit. My sister & her hubby even tried using the comforter under the sheets as a make shift mattress pad. Side note: On the website & when I made the reservation I confirmed twice that the one bedroom had a queen, a full & a twin, when we got there it was a queen &2 twins, no full. Luckily it turned out to be a non issue for us but I could see where it could definitely be a problem for others.

We really enjoy Smugglers. This is the second year back in a row for us. It was an easy decision because it is beautiful, family friendly and the prices are very reasonable. The views are incredible, and we loved having a little community about us. Our family, which includes two kids, met another family with two kids of similar ages, and hung out together throughout our stay. It was so great to have the kids roll out of bed, be steps to a grassy area and the little play structure. Kids also loved going onto the dock and looking for fish(we even saw a large crab — about 8 inches across), the short walk to the private pebble beach, the lawn area and sandboxes. My son also loved the pool, hot tub, birds and fish they had on site. If you don’t like airplane noise, this spot may not be for you, as it is right next to the Orcas Airport. Also, as the other reviewers have said, the«resort» is not like a Cancun resort. The amenities are not the latest but they did have everything we needed. Loved having laundry facilities in the unit. Plenty of pots, pans, dishes, silverware. Just bring your food! PS — Mike and Susan, who run the place, are incredibly friendly, helpful, down to earth and with a great sense of humor!

Smugglers Villa Resort was simply perfect for our family which included myself, my husband, my mother and our three children, 18, 18&24.(My husband is nearly 6 foot tall and our two boys are over 6 foot) We had ample room, the beds were all comfortable and all the supplies we could need to prepare meals, play games and live comfortably. We felt quite at home in our 2 bed, 2 bath villa. Although Smugglers shows signs of being loving used and there were a few small touch ups needed, our family felt very comfortable. There were no weird smells, granite counters, modern appliances and everything was very clean. The location was perfect on several levels. The unobstructed sunset views were simply breathtaking. The proximity to Eastsound was perfect. We were only a few minutes to restaurants and a grocery store but when at Smugglers it felt like we were on a private island. There was a fire pit which Mike started every evening and left wood for us to keep enjoying. The sunset view while enjoying the fire pit was magical. For myself and my family Smugglers Villa Resort was the perfect accompaniment to our Orcas Island vacation.

We had a family reunion at the resort over 4th July this year. I think we had 6 condos in all. It was a lovely setting for many people to come and go and have places to explore and run around. The pool and hot tub were a hit with the kids, as was the grassy area to run and throw the football. I think a couple of parents even found time to try out the tennis courts. Being next to the airport was interesting as planes were taking off and landing through out the day, but wasn’t intrusive. Each condo is individually owned, so there are different themes/décor/amenities in each one. We didn’t have a problem with that, but one or two family members wished they had a different color scheme in their unit. We were in a 2-bedroom unit(#16 — closet to the pool, office, beach, fire ring) that was connected to a two-story unit. We never heard anyone through the walls. The way the units are built the porches are recessed from each other to allow for privacy. Easy drive from the ferry, easy laid back atmosphere, easy going management, lots of fun things to do at Smugglers, rental equipment and water tours right from your front door. I would have given it 5 stars but it is not a «resort» as one would normally think of a resort, and the amenities that go with that. This is like your aunt’s place that she bought in the 70s that’s been well maintained, albeit a little funky. A great place to go with the family(although we also saw couples) with friendly management and laid back vacation attitude. Have fun!
