I came, I saw, I left. For various reasons, I don’t care for Marsh. Way back when, my mum went to Marsh because they had Melamine dinnerware and that’s what we could afford. It was cheap and tacky but it was a reward for shopping there. Years later, when we got better dishes, one of the aunts wanted the melamine set to go with her own. Suddenly, she had cheap and tacky dinnerware for 16. This one is so much better than the stores in Richmond that they don’t seem to be part of the same company. When I lived in Eaton, there was an IGA store in this location and it was replaced by Marsh. At that time, there was no Kroger, no Walmart, no Dollar General, so shopping at Marsh was the only local alternative. I was looking for tofu today. I use House tofu and for some reason, it’s been difficult to find lately. There has been a switch to organic brands which taste like shtuff that you don’t want to associate with food. Tofu doesn’t need a flavour of its own. It’s just an ingredient in various recipes. They had some brands that I just won’t buy but they had tofu available. The few times I’ve been in Marsh stores in the past 5 years, I’ve noted the high prices. That’s similar to Meijer and Kroger and sometimes Walmart. Kroger has recently been making some changes but with any of these stores, it’s all about the coupons and loyalty programmes. This isn’t a bad store and it’s within walking distance of quite a few people, almost to Main Street.(Funny, it’s on the same side of the tracks with Kroger and Walmart. Is there a conspiracy to keep shopping from people to the south of town?) The lot was thankfully plowed nicely so that it wasn’t a problem finding a relatively clear parking spot.
