Old Country Buffet

I’ve eaten here many times growing up and I can’t understand the bad reviews. I’ve never found anything I didn’t like about this restaurant; all the food is tasty, the staff is friendly and the setup is good. Also I recently tried their weekend breakfast buffet and was not disappointed.

With all the poor reviews for this place, you’d think Eau Claire, Wisconsin is a foodies paradise. I am permanently stranded after marrying my beautiful bride, so I ask for locals to tone it down a bit. Your taste buds are not sophisticated so stop carrying on. Of all the places I have traveled, 30 states etc., this is the second best OCB I have been to. The food is prepared with care, but within their means. The salads are fresh, and I am referring to the artesian lettuces, housemade ranch, and have you seen the greens salad with the strawberries and candied pecans? Beautiful. This is one of the only locations where the carving station features roast that is medium, as compared to shoe leather. The taco bar features pulled pork. I bought a pork roast and it was $ 25 at Gordy’s, but somehow they can make it work here. And the help– Always friendly. I usually don’t tip at buffets, but here, I do.
My biggest complaint is about the soup. People like good hearty soup and 5 out of 7 days it is always cream of corn (really??) and chicken noodle. Now, how much does it cost to put out a nice bean with ham or a split pea. Soup is cheap and maybe people would fill up on it more if were appealing. That being said, if you raise prices one more time I will personally write to Golden Corral and ask that they come here. Thank you.

This use to be the place to be with a line out the door and nowhere to park!
The food is the exact same as it was 15 years ago and the price has gone up immensely. For two people its about $ 30 and the food is really nothing special. Also be prepared to see a lot of fat people sitting on two chairs reading books.

Oh and Sunday they have some low quality prime rib sliced by some guy that looks like a chef.

The only reason they are getting two stars is because it’s the only place I’ve found in Eau Claire with a decent salad bar. But I do think the buffet price should be cheaper for the quality of the rest of the food.
Also you usually only see your server at the beginning of the meal.
And it’s NOT clean.

I wish I could give NO stars. We have not been to this place in over 5-​years because the last time we were here we got raw chicken and when management was confronted they were anything but polite or accepting. We saw a tv episode of Undercove Boss for Old Country and we thought maybe they have changed. Sadly, they have not. The food is below average and the place was not very clean. After we got our food, our server (Ellie) said «Hi» and then was never back to clear plates or help at all. However, we did see her standing in the corner consistantly talking with other employees. The final nail in their coffin for us came later when all three of us got sick later that night from their food. Just a warning… BEWARE OF THE POOR FOOD QUALITY! After paying $ 42 for three of us to eat, we didn’t expect to get that sick.

If you are looking for a salad bar in Eau Claire, this is the place to go. Just don’t get tempted by their fried foods and all the desserts…

I’m just ashamed… I feel fat just reviewing this place but it’s the only non pizza or chinese buffet in Eau Claire.
If we get a golden corral though I’m going to giddy up and lower my rating.
Some items are good, most are typical buffet.

Just as i Had expected. Lots of choices, but i could not find anything i liked. My favorites were the dessert bar and the slushies.
