The Original Chicken Kitchen

This place is disgusting. The service is the worst I’ve ever experienced anywhere and the place is gross. We watched in horror as the staff slung the trash and dirty brooms over the counter were the food is passed to customers. I don’t know how this place stays in business. It deserves to be shut down.

From the beginning to the end this was a horrible experience. This place was recommended by my mother-​in-​law because she loves the shrimp basket.
We drove into the parking lot and on the sign it read «Seafood.» We pulled into the drive-​thru line and there wasn’t a single seafood item on the menu. Here’s our dialog:
Us: does your sign say that you have seafood?
Them: No
Us: It doesn’t say Seafood?“
Them: Not in the drive-​thru. You’ll have to come in.
Then we went in and asked if they had lemon slices. They said they did not. Then we asked, «you don’t have any lemon?» They said, «we have lemon packets.» Which, to me, would have been the next thing out of my mouth if I were answering the question. Our order was taken. We both ordered the trout dinner which, according to the posted menu, came with coleslaw and hush puppies. Then we were asked which sides we wanted. My friend said «I thought it came with coleslaw and hushpuppies» and the woman stated that it can come with any of the sides but they just put that on the menu which is written nowhere. Next we waited for about 20 – 25 minutes for our food. There were two other families in the restaurant that were seated and eating. Nobody else. There were two women behind the counter. The one that seemed to be «in charge» kept asking the other woman where our food was. Once it was ready, the second woman said «it’s up there in the styrofoam boxes» and they both turned around and started to do other things. We were standing there waiting for the food so long we ended up sitting down. Once we received our order we went out to the car and noticed that there weren’t any eating utensils, so we went back in. Then we noticed there weren’t any napkins either so we went back in. We then had a sip of our drinks which were flat. At this point I didn’t want to go back in. I then inspected my food and noticed that the fish in my box were considerably larger than those of my friends. I also noticed that the hush puppies i ordered had made holes in the styrofoam container they were served in and the packets of tarter sauce were tossed in with my food along with another unsanitary styrofoam container with my mac and cheese in it instead of outside of the container to avoid any contamination of whatever could be on the outside of the packet and container. Finally, the fish was clearly not fried appropriately and was extremely greasy. I realize that this place has been around since the 70s but I think they should stick to chicken, tighten up their customer service and could use an overhauling on cleanliness and sanitary standards. The coleslaw and hushpuppies were awesome. The fish was greasy and not cooked at the right temp and the Mac and cheese was horrible.

Biscuits are substantial enough to hold meat. Grits were done right. Eggs actually over easy.
Nothing fancy – it’s a local dive – but I rated it 4 for expectations met. If you want a quick, cheap, tasty breakfast, this is it.
