Had lunch here the other Saturday with my child bride. We arrived kind of late — like in the last hour of the dinner service. First impressions of the place were that it was a nice building. Burgers were sold out :( I had a glass of pinot noir and my bride had an unsweetened tea. We both went for the soup of the day(apple carrot) to start with. Followed by a BLT sandwich for me and a pimento cheese one for my wife. We then shared a Derby pie and ice cream. Service was a little lacking to start with — had to ask for my wife’s soup to come out when it wasn’t served with mine at the same time. if they were going to bring just one — I would have thought it would have been the lady’s first. Soup and sandwiches were pretty ordinary to be honest. My wife said there was hardly any Pimento cheese on the bread. «BUT» the Derby pie was excellent and I mean excellent !. When I mentioned it to the waiter he said that their chef had trained as a dessert chef and it was noticeable to be honest. One of the best desserts I have had here in the USA. Would I come back — yes I would. For one I would like to try them in the evening as I feel this place has potential to wow even though I wasn’t this lunch time(dessert aside). So until the next time I am leaving 3 stars but perhaps next time I can increase them.

Restaurant is on the ground floor of a converted southern home. Dinner was creative and delicious. I had the catch of the day(pan fried) with grilled eggplant slices, butternut squash purée, and pickled radish slices all served with a verjus reduction. The sauce was amazing! One of the eggplant slices was a bit burnt though. As a plate it had various textures and spice points that worked very well together. My hubby had the rabbit gumbo and it was well seasoned and served as a healthy bowl. The desert was warm pumpkin pound cake ala mode with a caramel pecan sauce. Great conversation with the owner about the history of the house.

tho they had some ups and downs in the past. the Old Edgefield Grill, under new ownership and kitchen… has it right now! Fabulous service, delicious southern specialities(fried green tomatoes, shrimp and grits, porterhouse steak). we were so full after a great dinner a few weeks back. Highly recommend this restaurant… Recommend Sat reservations due to the new Palmetto Shooting complex brings in lots of folks each weekend.

Just finished a wonderful meal here. The food was perfectly prepared, very flavorful and well priced. Atmosphere was quaint, if a little heavy on Thurmond memorabilia. Staff was very friendly. I whole heartedly recommend it.

WASNOTIMPRESSED with the steak at all! This was for My sons birthday dinner and I was def disappointed. The drinks didn’t taste good. They drinks tasted sour. The mashed potatoes, the broccoli and the fried green tomatoes were good. The service was ok but not great. You should never have to ask for a refill on drinks especially when you are one of three tables in the entire restaurant occupied. The server did try to make it right but I had to send the steak back once and didn’t eat the second steak that came out because it was too chewy. Filet mignon should not be chewy. The(lady) owner came out and basically argued with me at the table. I had to tell her everything was fine just for her to leave the table. Having to avoid an argument with her that was not the kind of service that I expected for spending the money we did($ 160) I had reservations at this restaurant for some time now and took Taylor because that’s what he requested for dinner. I do not suggest going to this restaurant. If the owner wanted to make it right she could have and we probably would have come back in the future and just special ordered specific meat a week in advance but oh well. Bad reviews are not what u want being under new ownership. The owner should have never even came to our table if she was not trying to make it right. $ 160 for 5 people… they could have taken my $ 26 steak off the bill. I’m just saying. I am a huge tipper and def don’t mind spending money on a good meal with good service. Even the BIRTHDAYBOY didn’t like his food. Travis Bethune I was very disappointed and you being the head chef should never ever let this happened at your establishment because it represents you as the head chef.

Had a lovely meal starting with fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese melted on top(enough for two). Husband had homemade sausage with grits. Both recommended. Small salads — both good. Then pork entrée which was good except for sweet potato mound, dry and no flavor. That is why four instead of five stars. Too full for dessert. Linen and flowers on table, prices very fair. Would return.

Really like the building where the restaurant is located. Menu had good variety. I had the southern fried shrimp with a side of grits. The food was good. Sweet tea was very good. Wait staff was friendly and attentive. Price was reasonable. I would recommend a visit.

I’ve been coming thru Edgefield for the past 5 years, and have dinner here periodically. I do have an affection for this place, so I don’t want want to be too critical. There are 3 dining rooms in this place. When we got there tonight, there was only one table occupied. We were seated directly next to the occupied table when the hostess seated us. I hate to feel crowded when I’m paying a premium for what is suppose to be a nice quiet dinner out w my companion. Anyways… that set the tone till we finally asked to be moved because the loud table of six was obnoxious. I guess for a place like this, I didn’t feel that we should have had to ask. Dinner was marginal. I had sautéed chicken an my companion had a rib eye. Neither were anything to write home about. The usual waiter we have used in the past has moved, and the standard of food and service has dipped a little. I do intend to give this place another chance… it is very quaint inside. We like the Strom Thurmond dining room.
