Usually when i come to an island restaurant i get jerk chicken. This time i tried pasta. It was different. .not bad. May not have been my cup of tea. Huge portion with very little meat and the shrimp had a funky taste. Im giving 3 stars my waitress was everything… and rum cake is a thumb up! Very exceptional atmosphere… i just wish i had stuck with my norm.

Foodie heaven in Edgewood! Who knew? Blown away by the food… and the décor, too! They def love what they do. Must come back to try it all, but at least I’m not in NJ! Pineapple salmon was a special and so fresh and good! No canned pineapple here. Boneless BBQ Coconut Jerk Chicken was a little too saucy but tasty! Both served with rice and peas, plantains, and a cabbage medley that was just perfect! Large portions for the price.

Great food especially when you area 3 hours away from NY. Curry goat is my favorite, the roti is good, escovitch(fish) is delicious and the desserts are also great. My husband(I’m using his account) wanted me to add that the jerk chicken wrap is DELICIOUS. The price is a little higher than what I pay in NY but it’s worth it. Go try it.

I save my 5 star reviews for a truly great dining experience. I’m not one who throws 5 stars around to save a sinking ship, so when I throw 5 stars out there, the restaurant must have really blown my socks off. Island Spice is a great hidden gem in the Abingdon area. I read reviews on here, and trough word of mouth, and have heard nothing but great things. We came in for lunch, and my wife and I both got the jerk chicken. Wow, simply amazing. Cooked to perfection. I’m not a native to Jamaica, but I know good food when I taste it. So much flavor. For a drink they gave us some kind of strawberry/island/fruity drink. A perfect compliment to the meal, and just as much flavor on its own. I sampled the ginger drink, and wasn’t a big fan, but to each their own. For an appetizer we got the coconut bbq wings, and again, just packed with flavored that compliment each other so well. There’s no negative, but just be aware that you’re going to pay slightly more for your food; I guess I’d say this prices are slightly above average, but not much, and when you’re eating your meal you’ll be happy you came here and spent a few extra bucks. I’m a firm believer that you get what you pay for, so their prices are completely justified. The place is spotless, and the staff is super friendly. One waitress that wasn’t working out table came over and made an effort to talk to us, and see how things were going. Just really friendly people. I promise you that Island Spice is now in my repertoire for restaurants, and I can’t wait to go back. This was one of the best universal dining experiences I’ve ever had.

Amazing find right off I-95. Authentic Jamaican, fresh juice with no added sugar(try pineapple ginger), delicious chicken soup, interesting choices, gracious hosts, outstanding service. A happy surprise! Worth the trip.

A good spot! We didn’t realize it was a sit-down place when we asked the hotel manager for a good, quick restaurant. Glad he recommended it! It was little pricey l, but the food was worth it. The Coconut BBQ wings were good, and so was the Coconut Ginger punch. Nice wait staff and pleasant atmosphere too.

After reading reviews I decided to stop in for lunch while waiting for my 12;40 movie to start. Now I remember why my #1 rule was never go in to a new place with less than $ 50. lol. That was roughly my price tag. My waitress, Carissa, brought out samples of their drinks, since I was a newbie. They were all good, but I went with the Pineapple Ginger which was the best of the three. Just the right kick to it. I wound up with the seafood Rasta Pasta and a side of Roti. If this is what they call a little spicy… Holy banana peppers, Batman! It was good, not as spicy as I made it sound but it definitely had bite to it. That’s why I also ordered the Roti. I might also add that one should be driving something Italian and exotic(i.e. Not a Fiat, but owned BY Fiat) to tell people they can afford to eat here weekly. Not this satellite engineer. Maybe bimonthly. Food was great but a bit pricy for one person.

If you have a hankering for jerk chicken, Island Spice is the answer to your prayers. I ordered the rasta pasta for carry out a couple weeks ago, and washed it down with their homemade peach tea. The pasta was unbelievable. So flavorful, chicken was perfect, the sauce out of this world. My only complaint was that my ticket said it came with rice with peas, and it didn’t. I didn’t mind. I wanted to have a second experience before writing a review though. My husband and I met here for lunch, arriving quite early as to beat the ‘lunch crowd’ because when I had picked up carryout that day, the parking lot was full and the line was to the door. We were the only ones seated and the place was just starting to pick up business when we left. The restaurant is clean — so clean — and the décor is adorable. The music is relaxing and the atmosphere is just a perfect break from the hustle and bustle of every day. We were offered samples of all of their homemade drinks — the island fruit punch was my favorite, so I ordered a glass. The other two offerings were pineapple ginger(hello, ginger!) and mango peach tea. You can’t go wrong with any of them. We were handed the lunch menus, but I knew I wanted to try the oxtails which they still served for lunch. They were amazing. Flavorful, tender and served with rice and a warm cabbage broccoli slaw — worth every penny. My husband ordered the jerk chicken wrap which he raved about. I think the terms he used were«killer» and«oh my god amazing». This place maxes out in the flavor department. Looking forward to more fantastic experiences at Island Spice :)

This is a solid offering and the only Caribbean in the area to my knowledge. The service is not quick or particularly attentive, but the food is very tasty, and the Rasta Pasta is very popular, and quite worth trying. I’ve tried several different dishes here(usually specials) and have always been happy with my meals.

The food is good but some stuff is over Priced comparable to other Caribbean places a few item ie(jerk chicken 15 dollars is over priced for the portions. It is good but other Caribbean places that could compete are mostly in the hood lol and too far to keep these folks honest on the prices :) Still good food, u just pay extra for having jerk chick in Harford co i guess :)

Holy cow wow. The coconut bbq sauce is so so good. Chicken was moist and falling off the bone. Rice and beans on point, vegetables on point, very friendly staff that also loves the food here! Really nice environment, too. You could take a date here, business meeting, or go casual like me ;) my friend got oxtail, tried it loved it. I’ve never had it before so I can’t compare, but it was really good. I wish I had any room for desert but I couldn’t even finish my chicken. Need to come back to try everything on the menu ugh.

This place is pretty darn good. We had the curried goat and the jerk chicken. Both were cooked and spiced very well! I truly loved the rice and peas. Tasted so coconutty. Really something special. My only complaints were the pastry on the meat patties were really thick and the waitress didn’t tell us the specials. I saw the specials on the board after the fact and I would of went with something off of that menu. I’ll definitely be back though. Very satisfied with the experience.

I am a road warrior business traveling foodie. After a long drive from NJ to Edgewood, I passed this place on my way the Hampton Inn. I pulled into the parking lot of the Hampton, launched my Tripple D app; nothing close. Launched my Unilocal app, and this place pops up. I backed out of the hotel spot and headed back. As I pulled into the parking lot, I noticed a guy walking out of this place carrying some take-out. His long dreads hung from the green, yellow, and red knit hat on his head. I thought this to be a good sign. Heck, if were my restaurant, I’d pay that guy to sit watching out the window, and every time a car pulled in, he would walk out the front door and come around and back in the back door. Maybe he did! Anyway, the first thing I noticed when I opened the door is the big Philippians 4:13 Scripture over the second door; «I can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens me.» I love that. One of my favorite verses. And I appreciate a business owner who is willing to take that risk and put what they believe right out there. It tells me their faith is more important than their business. As it should be. I was warmly greeted by pleasant woman with a Jamaican accent(another good sign). The place is clean, and very nicely decorated. It has a very warm and comfortable feel. I glanced at the menu, but I knew what I was going to do anyway. «What do you recommend?» I asked. «Rasta Pasta». She replied. Done. A few minutes later, I’m checked into the Hampton, and ready to eat and get caught up on some work. Until I took the first bite. Then I knew I had to write a review. I’m Italian. And I cook. A lot. I am a bit picky about Italian food. So the idea of ordering a Jamaican pasta dish intrigued me. When I opened the carry out container I was blown away by how beautiful this dish is.(Yes I took a picture) When I tasted it, I knew work was going to wait until I wrote this. The first thing I felt was a bit of heat. Right after that, came the sweet. And then after the swallow, another hint of heat. This maybe one of the most tasty dishes I have ever had. The pasta was perfect. The chicken was tender and flavorful. The whole dish rocked. Great find. Highly recommend.

I’ve never been to Jamaica so I can’t make the comparison to the native food but my companion is and described it as authentic.(Not quite as good as his mama’s but…) I have enjoyed a variety of meals including the curried chicken, the brown stew chicken, and the pepper steak. All of these entrees come with rice, mixed vegetables, and fried plantains. You can adjust the heat level to your liking. My companion had the steamed snapper. While all my food has been delicious this was outstanding! I will definitely be ordering it on my next visit. The service has been a adequate, but the food comes out swiftly! The atmosphere is casual with a warm island feeling.

Island Spice is a GEM! The place is nicely decorated. Very tasteful furnishings and wall hangings and stone work elevates the level of class. Once seated you forget you are in a strip mall eatery. Service is sharp and they don’t miss a single detail. I like that the servers wear a uniform, black pants and a brightly colored island themed shirt. The owner husband and wife team visit tables even the Chef’s uniform was cool with a bright red coat and matching red kicks. I had the coconut wings, they were crazy good. A unique take on wing sauce but the kicker here is the way they cook the wings they are not petrified in the fryer. They bake them so they are moist and gooey and flat out delicious. Next I had the Rasta Pasta. There are 3 styles seafood, shrimp, and Jerk Chicken. The sauce is creamy and a little spicy a bowl of this will change your life! This place is ran on passion and it shows in ever facet of your visit. Go and enjoy! FoodDude! Cool Runnin man!
