I ate at the Edison Diner for the first time last night. I have to say it was one of the best diners I’ve been to. The atmosphere was nice and quiet, although I was there at 11PM, so I’m not sure how it’s there during the day. We ordered mozzarella sticks as an appetizer. They were good. I ordered the turkey club sandwich with french fries. It was delicious! For the turkey club I was asked if I wanted sliced turkey or deli style, which I was very pleased about. Most diners only offer sliced. It might just be something I’m weird about, but for a sandwich I like it sliced deli style so that made me happy that they offered both. And the french fries were absolutely amazing! The platter came with coleslaw and a pickle. The coleslaw was quite tasty as well. The platter was a big portion too. My boyfriend ordered a breakfast sandwich. It was delicious. The roll was toasted nicely and they had a fine amount of meat on it. Not huge but not too small by any means. The server was fantastic last night. He was very nice and just the right amount of attentive. He came back to check on us frequently but not so much as to be overwhelming. Perfect! He made sure we had full drinks and even offered my boyfriend a to go cup for a refill on his coffee before we left. I was very impressed with his service! We will definitely be going back here!

The food is pretty tasty, the portions are huge, and the prices are decent. My problem is that when you leave a tip on a credit card for the server, the server does NOT receive the tip at the end of their shift. They do not receive the whole amount of the tip but rather a partial amount of that tip in their paycheck. Its always better to leave cash for servers no matter where you eat.

Great portions, now has wine beer. Enjoyed legendary turkey club. Sunday has specials inc Hungarian food. Fast service. Renovated, not like the typical tin can diner. My son enjoys large portions. On rt 1 near our office so easy to get to.

I came here when I was not super hungry mainly because my company was hungry. But I’m a sucker for breakfast foods anytime of the day. With that being said their French toast was really good! Service on the other hand was why the place gets low ratings. Server was horrendous and will probably prevent me from coming back.

This place is ok. I’m not crazy over the breakfast meals because I felt like it was undercooked several times. The drink menu is overpriced and small. They have plenty of options for breakfast meals but the quality of it isn’t so great.

Food here is okay. Customer service is really bad. When I confronted the manager about a server error, instead of making a simple apology which I would have happily accepted, one manager decided to walk away. The other got really aggressive and rude. I truly don’t appreciate this kind of service from a diner. Certainly won’t come back again.

My family has been coming here at least once a month for the past 3 or 4 years. This place has great breakfast dishes– simple but delicious. The prices have recently gone up a little bit but considering the amount of food we get, coming here is still worth it. I usually get breakfast combo 1 with egg whites and sausage patties. I loove the breakfast potatoes too. I can’t go wrong with either of them. I also occasionally get the bread pudding and that’s A+ too! We have never gotten poor service here either. The waiters/waitresses are great and are very accommodating. We’ll still be coming back here regularly :)

I was in the Edison area and really had no particular idea what to have for lunch so decided to stop by what is usually a solid choice in Edison Diner. Good: My Tuna Melt was quite tasty. The tuna fish salad was fresh with not too much mayonnaise and nice contrast with onion and various seasonings. French fries were fried to a crisp texture with a soft interior. Coleslaw was surprisingly good as well. Sister had the Chicken Caesar Salad and it was a nice large portion of fresh greens and moist chicken breast. The Bad: Service was not up to par at all. Firstly our waiter did not ask us for our drink order, requiring us to flag him down to order our drinks(two coffees). After finishing our entrees we were each looking to get a dessert, but we literally waited 17 minutes until our waiter passed by; again having to motion to him to get his attention. At this point we were both fed up and decided against dessert(not knowing how long that ordeal could take), so we just opted to get the check, pay, and leave. We haven’t experienced this poor of a level of service in a while, and hopefully don’t for some time.

Poor customer service. Edison diner does not understand how to treat customers with respect. We entered the restaurant and we’re seated promptly after the waiter gave us attitude. We were then switched to another waiter who was excellent. Numerous times we had asked for our beverages but the main waiter had us wait wait for the bus boy or kept ignoring us. Next we had asked to replace our regular fries for curly fries and they had overcharged u0s four dollars on the bill. After confronting them about the incident they had threatened to call the police. I am not completely unsatisfied with their food though. Their wraps and Panini’s were on par. Their customer service and attitude needs to be improved drastically. They definitely need to tell the customer what they are paying for before they have them order and charge without notice.(night shift manager and staff)

This restaurant is one of the better diners in the area, but my most recent experience was not good. This past weekend, I went and was immediately turned off by soliciting being allowed in the vestibule. The second I opened the door, I was met by 3 individuals who started talking to me. They had set up a table. Now on the busy weekend, that vestibule is crowded as it is with people waiting for a table — I don’t think patrons would like that a quarter of that area was crowded with solicitors, where they could have been waiting for their table. I am 100% in favor of supporting organizations, but in a diner? Not nearly the time or the place for this. This was a turn off. The owner(or manager-whoever it was, he appeared to look ‘in charge’) was friendly and accommodating when we had to move our seats due to a noisy table next to us. One thing I noted immediately was that the Edison Diner now serves alcohol. I suppose this is to compete with the Skylark down the street. While the Skylark has more modern décor, I would stick with the Edison for food. The menu is large and for the most part, you’re safe with most choices. That being said, however… I chose the cobb salad with grilled chicken. The chicken was a step-up from what I expected, and the salad was okay. The egg did not taste right… not sure what it was, but something was peculiar tasting and not in a good way. I didn’t eat the egg. I had asked for the Greek salad dressing on the side but was only served oil. Upon requesting vinegar to compliment the oil, I was presented with something that looked like it was probably the Greek dressing I had originally wanted. That dressing, if it was Greek, although I’m not sure, was not good. It did not stand out. The feta on the salad tasted more like goat cheese than feta. The other person in my party ordered a cheeseburger on a whole wheat bun. The bun was not fresh — it was hard-crispy in a way that there are parts of the bun that flake off, if you know what I mean. We’ve previously ordered the turkey platter to go, and this was always delicious. It is rare to find the turkey platter with yellow gravy served in a diner anymore that actually tastes good, but the Edison’s has. Bottom line, would I go back? Yes, but I would steer away from the hamburger buns and hard boiled eggs and choose a different salad dressing. And please don’t allow the solicitation. I come to the diner to relax, not to be solicited.

Probably one of the better diners near Rutgers… as a college student I used to come here pretty much on a weekly basis and don’t remember being disappointed once. I’m a huge fries person and their disco fries with cheddar cheese had always been on point as well as everything else on their menu. They are also very accommodating to large groups. They also have these delicious cookies in the front that you can grab on the way out that they bake fresh everyday(free dessert anyone?) This place is also open 24 hours with free WiFi, which is a plus!

Had a wonderful first experience here. Although we had to wait we expected it since Sundays are usually the busiest of times for diners. The wait was brief only 5 – 10 minutes. I was in the mood for lunch even though it was only 11am. I ordered the gyro platter which was much larger than I had expected it to be. There cucumber tzatziki was outstanding, a bit more on the garlicky side but there is no such thing as «to much garlic» in my opinion. The gyro sandwich was also served with a Greek salad and a side a fries, so of course I had leftovers. The platter was 10.95 and well worth it. My fellow foodies ordered pancakes and waffles which they said were delicious. The service was also very accommodating as all our needs and requests were met. I will be returning here for future breakfast outings.

There’s no doubt that the Farmland Omelet at Edison Diner is the BEST omelet in the area! It combines spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes with melty Swiss cheese. It’s topped off with creamy Hollandaise sauce, which transforms the omelette from average to AMAZING! Although the breakfast potatoes aren’t the best I’ve ever had, they definitely satisfy and pair nicely with the omelet. Edison Diner’s décor is extremely outdated compared to other diners in the area, which is the one reason why I’d pick other diners over Edison Diner. It looks like a grandma’s bedroom… If they revamped their look, I’d go there much more often for date nights! I typically play it safe by ordering the Farmland Omelet because of an awful experience I had when I once ordered sweet potato fries. They were completely raw and inedible. However, I love the Farmland Omelet so much that the«grandma» décor or my sweet potato fry incident won’t stop me from going to get it!

I can’t really speak on how good the food is because I’ve only been here once. The one time I was here, I ordered the chef’s salad and let’s be real — how good can a salad really be? You can’t mess that up unless the veggies aren’t fresh, or you find a roach in there. Luckily, my salad was fresh, and there were no bugs to be found. I ordered it for takeout, which took about 20 minutes. So if you’re going to come here and order food to go, it isn’t much faster, if at all. You might as well just sit in and eat it. Tip — portions are HUGE(at least for salads anyway)!

I have been here several times before and usually leave satisfied. This is another typical NJ looking diner. The service was okay. The waiter seemed new and did not really know the menu and what came with what, He was very friendly and polite. The food did come out quickly. The booth we sat in was not comfortable at all. It was very hard. I ordered the roast beef dinner($ 16.95). It came with several sides too. I had the French onion soup, house salad with oil and vinegar, sweet potato, sautéed vegetables, and a fruit cup for dessert. The French onion soup was very good. The abundance of the cheese really what makes the soup great. The house salad was a typical salad except for the abundance of carrots. There were far too many carrots on top of the greens, cucumbers, tomatoes, and crotons. Other than that, the salad was fresh and tasted good. The sweet potato was solid. It was cooked long enough where the potato came right off the skin. The sautéed vegetables were favorable. They had a mix of typical summer vegetables. They seemed to be seasoned with salt and pepper which is all that is needed I believe. The roast beef was better than I thought. It was a large piece of beef. The juices from the beef were phenomenal, which made this dish. The fruit cup was a mixture of cantaloupe, honeydew, grapes, grapefruit, and oranges I believe. The cantaloupe and honeydew were not very sweet, but everything else was pleasant. Will I go back? Sure.

I went with a large group. We were seated relatively quickly for our size. It was Sunday morning too! However I ordered a veggie burger. I wasn’t satisfied with the way it tasted. The fries that came with it were good. The waiter was really nice and my friends seemed satisfied with what they ordered. Overall, standard diner. I would go back and try something else next time.

If you want dependable good food and friendly atmosphere this is the best place to be. It’s my favorite place for breakfast in New Jersey. The sausage and biscuits won’t disappoint. The rueben and onion rings are great.
