The staff is very friendly. The store is mostly clean. It’s the only grocery game in town unless you get your vegetables from George and Pinks or King’s Market.(King’s has a limited amount of high quality, grass fed beef, locally grown and processed) In the off season, many shelves are half stocked. In the busy season, the place is mobbed and the result is somewhat the same. If you want some thing like Arborrio rice, you aren’t going to find it here. Basmati? maybe sometimes. Fresh vegetables? Not so much although there is a selection of packaged salad greens and the standard travel weary asparagus, leeks, collards and the like. As for frozen vegetables, there is an adequate amount of Southern Home basics, but none of the really wonderful things packed by other Southern specialty frozen vegetable producers. The deli counter is thin; just the basics. You have your ham, your ham, your other ham and some roast beef and Swiss cheese and another cheese and … that’s about it. There is a steam counter and much of it looks edible. The fried chicken is pretty GOOD. The bread selection is okay if you mostly want Pepperidge Farm and mushy white bread. Bilo makes a nod to good bread with a spotty and almost always sold out single rack of Euro/NY style crusty breads. The bottled BBQ sauces are all, with one or two exceptions, national or Bilo brands. South Carolina has some wonderful bottled sauces, but this store doesn’t carry them. The wine selection is very badly bought. It’s mostly high priced, highly advertised lower shelf stuff. There are few, if any, French or Italian wines or good California wines. Orvieto is the exception and it is priced entirely too high. If you are a wine drinker and coming to Edisto — seriously — bring your own — seriously. If Bud Lite is your beer, you have all you could want in the beer case, but the selection beyond big national brands is very spotty and inconsistent. Sometimes there is Guiness, sometimes not. Sometimes some of the wonderful Charleston brewed beers are available, often times not The store does sell bait. It’s in the case with the frozen turkeys — turkeys which are to be avoided at all costs. There is a butcher in the store and he will custom cut things if he has them. In my limited experience, he has done an excellent job when asked and knows his stuff. This service is not advertised and you have to ask for him. There is no lamb and very few beef roasting cuts. It’s mostly steaks and chops although the pork selection runs a little deeper. Chicken parts abound. Whole chickens are often available. I have bought nicely cured hog jowls around New Years. All in all, it is a very mediocre grocery store, but it’s what’s here. If you’re dealing with a house party on the beach and going mostly with snacks and burgers, the store can handle that. Otherwise, many of us head to the Pig in Hollywood or the Publix on Rt.17. I use the place, but I don’t expect anything special.

As the only real food store on the island, you really have no other choice! Not a huge variety, a lot in the way of alcohol though! Shelves are empty most of the time, and often not restocked on a weekly basis

This BI-LO used to be a Piggly Wiggly at Edisto Beach and although they would run low or even run out you could rest assured that the shelves would be replenished within the day or next morning-they had all the crazy kinks worked out for every crowd/holiday you can think of. This new BI-LO is a sad excuse for a grocery store where the next place to purchase food items is an hour away. The Monday before the 4th of July the ice cream freezer section is totally empty! I mean nothing! I am a part time resident here and I was heart broken to lose our Piggly Wiggly– this just confirms after months to figure out what they’re doing to get it «right» for Independence Day– that they will fail. Folks coming for a weeks vacation better pack ALL of your own groceries. I mean ALL! Beware– this is terrible… AWFUL!

What are you going to do, this is the only grocery store on the island. Plus this way, you can use your rewards card, and it is a 24 hr store now.

#edisto #edistobeach If there were a way to do negative stars I would use them. Not once ever while it was the Pig have seen the place ran as poorly as it is right now. Shelves empty for days, beer and water left out in the sun(temp near 100) for more than 45 min. Lines back up through the store yet two cash registers empty. Seriously you can tell it’s no longer a SC owned and operated company.

Beware!!! My mother left her wallet in the buggy. It was found and turned in to one of the managers. Employees saw her with it and she admitted she had it but«got busy and laid it down somewhere». We tried to file a police report but obviously the Edisto Beach police don’t want to be bothered with such nonsense! If you find someone’s wallet keep it and give your info to the manager for the customer to get in touch with you!

Bi-Lo replaced Piggly Wiggly in 2014, but you wouldn’t even notice on the interior. It’s as if they just switched signs. That’s ok, because this is the only grocery store on the island.

Of course I was sad to see the Pig converted to a Bi-Lo(nostalgia, of course). However, the one good thing about the change is that you can now stop by to pick up groceries at any time, 24 hrs. For me, this is a real plus because when I am in Edisto, the time flies so quickly and shopping for groceries is always an after-thought. The store itself is really tiny, very dated, and not the cleanest of grocery stores. However, when you are the only game in town, why worry about asthetics? Also disappointing to me is the lack of good choices for healthy eating and natural products. The seafood selection sucks… but thankfully there is a fresh seafood store not far from here. But, on the postive side, they have a pretty good selection of beer, which is essential for the beach! And, I like the little local section where you can buy products like Cromer’s Popcorn and locally made Benne wafers. A lot of people complain about the prices, but I don’t find that they are much different than what I pay back home… Only difference is that stores back home are much cleaner & have much better selection of products.
