Great Food, Great Service, and the ambiance is wonderful. Thank you for making dinner so special!

Superb. My Midwestern dinner companion had never liked grits until we went to dinner together at OPO. I’d never liked lima beans until I had theirs. One of the best of the South.

We had a party of 10 including 4 children and they were very accommodating of them. The food was incredible, however they won’t split checks. Also, the chef won’t cook your filet over medium rare. Two of our 9 year olds wanted to split the chicken piccata, but they charge a $ 9 split plate fee and wouldn’t waive this for the kids even though the kids would not be eating an extra salad and side. The waitress was nice but the menu restrictions were excessive and she seemed afraid to ask the chef if she would accommodate our reasonable requests.

You never fail to meet my expectations of an amazing meal in a lovely environment. Outstanding crabcakes!

I was in Edisto Island with my father, visiting some friends who live on the Island whom recommended this restaurant for dinner. They had 6:30 reservations for us, however, we decided to catch the Preakness and didn’t arrive until close to 7:15, which didn’t seem to be a problem as they held our table, and there were plenty of other tables open. Once we were seated we received water, bread and butter. The bread looked like it came from last week and was served with butter packets that I usally see at Ihop or some breakfast spot. We started with the Pimento Cheese dip and all I can say is be prepared to drink a lot of water. The dip was so hot I had to eat plain crackers to calm my pallet, and I like spicy/hot food. There were several specials, which was nice. However, the Old Post only makes one vegetable each day and does not subsitute anything! With my party we had crab cakes, chicken piccata and a filet. The crab cake was very good, nice lump crab and served extremely warm. I enjoyed the chicken, however, they could have held back on the butter. My entire plate looked like a butter slab by the end of the night as the remaining melted butter had dried. a little too heavy for my liking. The filet I was told was decent. As for the service, somewhat disappointing. As the restaurant isn’t that big, and it was not crowded, our waitress was very distracted, forgot an order, and even forgot her pen when she came to take our order. I know Edisto doesn’t offer too many close restaurants so I do wish the service and food was a little better, as the place is quaint and could be so much better.

«Usually we take reservations» although our whole meal only had one other table present. No choice of sides. either you want baby limas and grits or you want grits and baby limas. They DONOT split ticket so if you go with a couple bring cash or pay for the whole table. In our case there were 8 of us… so they were only willing to divide by 4 reluctantly, even though they weren’t busy and had electronic capability. Just not accommodating. My chicken was great… And my company… that’s about all. I’m thinking its more for upscale patrons that want the atmosphere. Do not bring 2 yr or younger. My opinions… and all mine. Semper Fi!

Make sure to call for reservations! The best quality food on Edisto Island. It’s the only place you will have to dress nicer than a T-shirt and shorts.

The service is wonderful, bread is hot, and ingredients are fresh. They serve real food, and do it well. The owner is present and greets all diners; she also stopped at our table. I am a ‘foodie’ which unfortunately means I have difficulty finding quality restaurants when traveling. If you are a foodie then this is the place to dine!

Excellent! A special portobello and spinach ravioli, crab cakes, butter beans and cheese grits. One of us doesn’t like either beans or grits but loved these. All in all a winner. Also coming from one of the foodiest cities in the country(louisville) these prices are extremely reasonable for the quality of food and service The owner still works as hostess!

Appetizers were excellent. The entrees lousy, except for the OPO crabcakes, they were good. Seems like the chef is mailing it in! The only sides were grits and lima beans.

This was my first time here but have heard wonderful things about them. The drive was an hour and a half so his food better be good. And it was! The grits were guaranteed to make any northerner a grits lover and no disappointment there. I had the tile fish and it melted in my mouth. Can’t wait to go back.

We wanted to like it — But our meals were pretty disappointing. The cheese grits were good but other than that everything was absurdly oversalted.

Cozy building. Atmosphere was a little quite until we got there. Probably a little too loud for the place. Yeah there is a story there. Food and service was great as well as the wine recomendation. I have the steak that was tender and wonderful. All good … would return.

I ordered scallops which had a bitter taste to them. It tasted like the solution that had been used to wash them had not been rinsed off. The grits had cooled off but were good. Overall, the menu is pricey and has limited choices for those who don’t want to spend over $ 20. The policy of not separating checks for more than one party will probably keep me from returning. I have been coming to Edisto this week every year and going to the OPO but will look around for other choices even if its a ride to Charleston.

This place is an institution, and probably my first real fine dinning experience all those years ago. This would be a 5 star review, but the Post Office went through a little lull for a bit. After they changed ownership and reopened, this place went downhill. Though those problems seem to have worked themselves out because my most recent visit last year was as good as ever. Friendly and welcoming service and atmosphere. I just love this cozy building. There is a small menu that can rotate from time to time. Grits come with everything, and one of the only places I will eat them. I love the fillet, quail, duck, and anything that is the catch of the day. Smoked salmon is one of the best aps anywhere. A true Low Country gem.

Great food! Best we have ever had in Edisto. I had the carolina rebeye and my wife had the fish stew as an appetizer and the crab cakes for entrée. All three were fantastic, well presented and well served. The rebeye was cooked perfectly for me(I tend to like my meets well done) and my wife’s crab cakes were delicious. You can tell the owners are making a conscious effort to provide a higher level dinning experience in a place well known for it’s fried casual dinning. I like it when a restaurant focuses on quality rather than quantity and I think the proprietors of The Old Post Office are delivering on a higher level of quality. Thank you for a great experience.

Wow, they can cook here! Wonderfully warm service compliments delishious Low Country cuisine. Not a bad item on the menu, but be sure to get the fried oysters app and the homemade smoked salmon app. Even if you dont like smoked salmon — this is absolutely unlike anything you have had before!

The Old Post Office Restaurant has been in the past a real standout not-to-miss eating experience on Edisto Island. It was closed a year or so ago and then reopened under new ownership a few months ago. I went out to try out the«New Old Post Office» a few days ago. I had made a reservation and was immediately seated. It took some time for the waitress to get to us and take out drink orders. We were interested in ordering some wine as the old version of the restaurant had a very solid wine list. This new version did not. They basically had a $ 30 and a $ 40 version of each wine. Short list of wines and not great choices. We ordered the Orangeburg sausage as an appetizer which was great and to be honest I think the highlight of the entire experience. I am a big steak fan and there were 3 steak options on the menu. 1 filet and 2 ribeyes. On the menu the chef was only willing to offer the filet rare or medium rare. I prefer my steaks more done than that so I had to opt for the ribeyes. They were done properly but as ribeyes often are were not very tender and the taste was very bland. Another person in our party had ordered the grouper which was a special that evening. They also described it as pretty bland. Like some of the other reviewers here, I was extremely disappointed in the whole experience as it just did not measure up to what the restaurant had been in the past and that is a shame. Admittedly the new restaurant had a lot to live up to but did not come close.
